I have seen on Facebook, general web comments, and other social sites saying that a particular person likes all types of music "except country".

Why do people hate country music so much?

I don't like the beat, generally, but if you don't love Johnny Cash then you should be pistol whipped.

I don't think any really open-minded person can dislike all of country,it's just that they might not see musics like rockabilly,country-rock, or country-pop as country music.

One should read the book Rednecks And Bluenecks :The Politics of Country Music by Chris Williamson for insights on this topic (and related topics).

It's nice to know you have bad taste in music, as well as in politics.:not:

What is now called country music is more akin to the pop rock of thirty years ago than to the country music of Earnest Tubbs and Hank Williams Sr. I suspect that the chief reason many people ahte country music is that theya re simply unaware of what Country has morphed into over the last few decades and are even less aware of it's roots. Especially so on the left.

Most leftists/liberals I know (my age,mid 50s and older) are country music fans, especailly bluegrass.

I do think what a lot of dislike of country comes from is stereotypes of the music ,and stereotypes of the people who listen to it.

Trying to figure out what it is you're trying to say there....

I listen to country, I love it....and apparently you have an issue with that.

Tell you what, dude, Lets find an unbiased observer...and to him, or her, we'll each submit out top ten favorite country/bluegrass songs.

I'd be willing to bet that we agree on at least five.

No ,I have an issue with "Red Cup" which sucks.

It's a badly written song for starters, one would debate if it really is country.

Now, either quit being a baiting prick ,or just fuck off.

Country is the only genre producing good music today. The best songwriters in the world are in Nashville.

That I'll disagree with you on.

Even what is IMO the very best modern country music (Neko Case,Rosie Flores,Todd Snyder) doesn't sell well.

The best songwriters in the world are in Nashville.

IMO,not since Steve Earle and Lyle Lovett left.

Teller most people your age that aren't getting paid to toe the liberal line long ago figured out that what is now called liberalism doesn't work and in fact cannot be made to work.

It's pretentious and sounds forced. There's a very, very narrowly defined set of acceptable sounds, themes, costumes, voices, accents, and pretty much everything else, and all country music has to be within that very tightly defined range. It's basically all one song, by one person. Any deviation and you're "not really country".

I'm talking about the radio stuff, of course. That's all I ever hear.

Well,IMO most of the best music in any genre seldom gets airplay, here's a rock/alt fave of mine that seldom gets any airplay:

Here's a country/Americana /rockabilly fave of mine you don't hear on any country station:

Jack White and Loretta Lynn(good luck hearing this on the radio):

There's nothing "good" in those brilliant lyrics,it's about how coal mining is one of the most dangerous jobs in the world ,people don't do it by choice, and they are poorly compensated for it.:nonono:

There are only so many chord progressions in all music, particularly country and only certain tempos and keys that work with country music. Thus it has a tendency to recycle material other than a few lyric changes here and there. The cookie cutter approach is easier to hide in other styles of music. Country also has more constraints as far as overall structure and is more MAJOR SCALE (kinda happy) sounding vs MINOR SCALE (bluesy and mysterious) so it doesn't have the listener get that involved in what is happening sonically.

There are SO many types of country music, I grew up with it, and with the older stuff my parents played, but all of that was Aussie country in those days, these days with internet radio most of my country is from overseas, and I've stopped listening to it as much because I find it very depressing. So much of it is about a young child killed by a drink driver, or a cheating husband shot by his jealous wife.... I get enough of that with my daily dose of the news, and I listen to music to relax and cheer up, not get put into a state where I feel like bawling my eyes out about the state of the world. I like country that's about rodeos, utes, playing up and working hard, which is generally what Aussie country is about, though we do have our sad bloody hoohahs as well....

I like to judge any genre, band, or style by each individual song. Yes some country music sucks, for varying reasons, it's still my favourite style of music. I also like Rock, Pop, hip hop, Blues, Jazz, Classical...... there are a COUPLE of metal songs I like :p ... maybe...

Saying I like/dislike country is like saying I like/dislike food. I doubt there's anyone out there that couldn't find ONE song they didn't like a bit.

Slipknot? crank it up!

A friend and I saw them in concert in Dallas. He got a headache couldn't even drink any beer...with him being an alcoholic...that's pretty good. Psychosocial and Snuff is their better songs IMO.

Here's Snuff. Pretty mellow for them.

Or Disturbed? This is inside the fire. About suicide. The girl was sexually molested as a child. Killed herself. Went to hell (the whole anti-suicide dilly in the bible). The devil is talking to the guy that you can be with the girl you love in hell. He almost commits suicide, doesn't and spends the rest of his days in an insane asylum.

I used to like country music, but once it shifted to rockabilly it lost its attraction to me. Like Boo said, anymore every country offering is the same song sung with the same twang by the same sequined all-hat-no-cattle cowboy/-girl.

I don't hate country music only I never listen to it. It's too slow too emo and too boring. I want to hear music thats fast and loud and thats not country music. but I do like a folk song. Vodka by Korpiklaani. It's fast and it's about drinking and it really owns. :D
Some of my relatives like country music but I always have my Sansa maxed out when we visit them. :p

Shot of Aussie feminisism for ya'll and a detail explaination of a "ute"for anyone that every wondered from overseas...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yGpfgRKvd4w

Not the best video ever made, but an idea of our modern upbeat average style of country, we're rarely bothered with polotics or drama in our country music, and the usual beat is generally too slow for me to appreciate.

On the modern-day ,commercial-mainstream stuff (such as crap like "Red Cup" by Toby Keith) I mostly agree, but alt-country and Americana (covered in No Depression magazine) is great, and even on the commercial end there are a couple of exceptions.
