View Full Version : Work Sucks!

:soapbox: I work in a food factory on an assembly line. The company took 3 people away and made the line run faster. Just the thought of going into work makes me sick. Don't get me wrong- I'm not ungrateful for my job but I don't understand why the company has to make it more difficult for us that remain to do the job. When I get home at night I'm tired, hurting, dirty, angry and hungry.

Does your job suck too?

I'm bored to tears in my job, but it pays well, I get a lot of vacation days, I'm saving a lot in 401K and I've got a 5 year plan.

That's how mine is. Some days are slow paced, nice. Some days are crazy hectic and 14 hours long.

I hate hectic. Dealing with the public can be a trip sometimes. When I was a cashier some of the shit I saw was waaaay out there.

The thing I love most is some of the things we see on peolpe's computers. "I have no idea how I got this virus..." and then you find the stash of porn.

[should this thread be a sticky?]

my job makes me very sad. my girlfriend says i should just quit and find another job. that scares me. i finally got a 'proper' job. before this its been all menial jobs. i studied for social worker, but obv theres only few jobs there. so quitting probably means back to one of the badly paying jobs. i know shes right; if i do my job right i have no more room for my life and vice versa...so thats not really a choice. its just very scary, i feel so old already...

(ps: in real life, in general, im a pretty happy kinda guy, so please dont think of me as all gloom :) )

I wish I'd have been a gun smith or something. IT is wearing on me. I'm just bored to death with it.

I'm a stay at home mother of two, both learning impaired, and living in an isolated location, which means I do all the cook, clean, household stuff you'd normally expect, plus teaching two grades of school at home (with no teacher training) look after all the home farm stock, orphaned lambs and etc and drive 600km per week for their one day of school.... on days when we have an öff"day and there's endless tantrums, yeah life gets to be kinda overwhelming.... hubby works away 6 or 7 days a week, and there is no babysitter/ grandparent/ releif of any kind... I SO miss my job :(

I think that's why I enjoy working for a smaller company. You're with a big behmoth right? We get to be a bit agile, we can implement new projects/systems with ease. So I at least am not doing the same niche thing (managing exchange, or being a DBA) I get to do a bit of everything.

Hewlett Packard, on the most vile, evil account you could ever imagine. I can see sulfur and brimstone spewing out of the customer's office across the street.

You should get an MBA w/ IT emphasis. Most of the IT people in my MBA program can barely string a sentence together - they are all foreign. Of course, I'm not IT but I've crossed over with some of them as I go through the program. You could probably knock out an MBA in 2-3 years and maybe even have HP pay for it. You'd have to act like you're interested in management though.

It was Sacramento, right? That was a good decision. Sac is a cowtown, I lived there for a few years.

I need an MBA like a hole in the head. I'm getting too old change careers. As it stands I'd rather be a sharecropper than waste my time living a plastic existence.

MBAs are very overrated these days (at least in non financial positions). I'm a big believer that experience trumps all. I would never hire someone with an MBA but no management experience to run one of my groups.

This really isn't the way stay on this site punk. All spammers deserve a special place in hell. Counting the minutes.

Summers are busy here and most days are hard to keep pace with all the requests that come in. During the winter, its slower paced and more manageable. There are some days I wish I never got out of bed, and there are some days where I dont mind getting up to go to work.

After the Big bank collapse in 2008, I hated working on Wall St. Thankfully, I was able to escape that sinking ship 2 and a half years ago.

I agree with Manu, experience trumps education any day and I would take any guy with 10 years of IT experience over a person who just graduated college with a Masters in IT anything.

We have college interns here and they're clueless. Of course it doesn't help that they're working for the sleaziest customer in the world south of Monsanto.

Most recent college grads that I have come across cant handle adversity and panic at the drop of the hat.

They can't really teach how to handle those kind of situations in college I suppose, but the interns, the females, make great eye candy as they walk around aimlessly.

There is a guy in my group who got his PMP. And while I think there are great skills to learn in the process, just having a PMP doesn't mean anything. And failure after failure of his projects, I hope his boss realizes that too.

Yeah, project managers live comfy lives. 9-5, working from home etc. They don't really manage crap in my experience. Some do, but for the most part a PM is some person who kissed enough ass to get into a position where they don't manage jack or shit. This, of course, is not always true. Salesmen, OMG, salesmen are the worst. They live very comfy lives compared to the average IT guy. They sell crap, make a HUGE profit for themselves, and throw their bread and butter guys under the bus. Cha ching. I'm very sick of IT. I want to be a gun smith. 18 years in this biz, and sooner or later my job will get shipped overseas just like the rest of them.

Dude, if you are single now, female interns also make for real life candy if the occasion arises! That is what I heard from back in the day. Maybe it is different now...
