This is going to be the thread for song lyrics... I'll post lyrics that I can relate to, or are touching to me in some way. The first one is a beautiful song. I was reminded of it when buggy and I were talking about the movie 'A Walk to Remember' yesterday. I love this song! (you gotta hear it in that movie when the main character sings it)
Only Hope
Lyrics by: Switchfoot (http://www.switchfoot.com)
There's a song that's inside of my soul
It's the one that I've tried to write
over and over again
I'm awake in the infinite cold
But You sing to me over and over and
over again
So I lay my head back down
And I lift my hands
And pray to be only Yours
I pray to be only Yours
I know now You're my only hope
Sing to me of the song of the stars
Of Your galaxy dancing and laughing
and laughing again
When it feels like my dreams are so far
Sing to me of the plans that You have
for me over again
So I lay my head back down
And I lift my hands
And pray to be only Yours
I pray to be only Yours
I know now You're my only hope
I give you my destiny
I'm giving You all of me
I want Your symphony
Singing in all that I am
At the top of my lungs I'm giving it back
So I lay my head back down
And I lift my hands
And pray to be only yours
I pray to be only yours
I pray to be only Yours
I know now You're my only hope

heheh... true, true. :)
um, I take it you like Sepultura. :D
JoeyNormal 09-18-2002, 05:03 AM Yes, very much so. Unlike many old metal bands, they have a clear and mature lyrical style. They do not simply scream about death, blood or Satan. Unlike all "nu" metal bands, their lyrics and style is niether whiny nor self-pitying. And their music is...brilliant. Their older stuff is pure thrash; hard, fast heavy. Their newer stuff [like Nation] incorporates their native Brazilian rhythms, as well as a classical European influence. It is slower and possesses a greater range.
Finally, their more..personnal, less political, songs are things I can greatly identify with. My attitude to life is to take the blows, push on. Accept problems, look inside and smash them aside...
Check out "The Ways of Faith"; it might interest you. Also "Water"; "The seekers will always seek out the truth..."
^ Thanks Joey... I've never really been into metal, but I'll take your word for it that they're good. :D
More lyrics... This one is a few years old but the reason I like it is because it always lifts my spirits. :) I don't know if anyone else will like it, but download it!
Get Down
Artist: Audio Adrenaline
Lavishly our lives are wasted
Humbleness is left untasted
You can't live your life to please yourself (yeah)
That's a tip from my mistakes
Exactly what it doesn't take
To win you've got to come in last place (yeah)
To live your life you've got to lose it
And all the losers get a crown
I get down and He lifts me up
I get down and He lifts me up
I get down and He lifts me up
I get down
All I need's another day
Where I can't seem to get away
From the many things that drag me down (yeah)
I'm sure you've had a day like me
Where nothing seems to set you free
From the burdens you can't carry all alone
In your weakness He is stronger
In your darkness He shines through
When you're crying He's your comfort
When you're all alone, He's carrying you
Everytime I'm down the Lord lifts me up
This valley is so deep
I can barely see the sun
I cry out for mercy, Lord
You lift me up again
I get down and He lifts me up
I get down and He lifts me up
I get down and He lifts me up
I get down
Everytime I'm down the Lord lifts me up

JoeyNormal 09-22-2002, 02:37 AM [Do not take this seriously]
I have a theory that all Christian bands...uh...suck. I am yet encounter one good Christian band. Creed speaks for itself, P.O.D...well, ye-es; nu-metal, therefore ****e. Even ones that used to be good fall the moment they turn Christian; Soulfly, KRS One...
;)
You are SO wrong... That might've been true at one time, but not these days. The whole Christian music scene has been growing and there are a lot of really good bands... you just have to know which ones. (it depends on the genre you like)
and listen to me. I'm going to say this loud and clear... ;)
Creed is NOT a Christian band!!!
The singer was raised Christian, but he has pretty much said that he's not sure where he stands with his 'christianity' in his life. And the other 2 guys are not Christian at all, if I'm not mistaken. One of the reasons I don't like them is because of their wishy-washiness. Either be a Christian, or don't be. I'd like them better if they actually WERE a Christian band (and if their music was different) :D
KRS-one became Christian? :) I saw him when I was in the audience of Politically Incorrect one time, in LA. I liked him and what he had to say, but I didn't know he was a Christian. (no wonder I liked him!!) :p
Anyway, I think you should expand your horizons and don't knock something you haven't heard!
JoeyNormal 09-22-2002, 03:27 PM Expand my horizons? Cindy, I listen to a very wide range of music. I just enjoy viciously mocking certain genres ;)
Creed is pure...uhh...they wrote one song and released it on 5 CDs. I am certain!
KRS is a great rapper, and, yes, he converted to Christianity.

JoeyNormal 10-05-2002, 05:21 AM I recommend Ben Harper. I don't know if he counts as Christian in your eyes, but he is awesome...
Thanks Bonnie and Joey!
new avatar and sig czech!
This lyrics thread wouldn't be complete without this song. Its one of my favorite songs of all time. And I think every born again Christian out there can relate to these lyrics.
I don't know if this link will work... but if anyone wants to hear the music, try clicking on the link... Its a really pretty piano version: Amazing Grace (http://www.geocities.com/incindiaryonline/amazing_grace.mid)
Amazing Grace
Amazing grace! How sweet the sound
That saved a wretch like me.
I once was lost, but now am found,
Was blind, but now I see.
'Twas grace that taught my heart to fear,
And grace my fears relieved.
How precious did that grace appear
The hour I first believed.
Through many dangers, toils and snares
I have already come;
'Tis grace hath brought me safe thus far
And grace will lead me home.
The Lord has promised good to me
His word my hope secures;
He will my shield and portion be,
As long as life endures.
Yea, when this flesh and heart shall fail,
and mortal life shall cease,
I shall possess within the veil,
A life of joy and peace.
When we've been there ten thousand years
Bright shining as the sun,
We've no less days to sing God's praise
Than when we've first begun.
John Newton 1725-1807
JoeyNormal 10-07-2002, 05:05 AM Damnit. Memories.
Would you be able to dig up a Psalm, Jubilate, I think is?
Jubilate? :) I'll see if I can find that. I'll be back later this evening though... I need to leave here soon to go to class!
JoeyNormal 10-07-2002, 02:36 PM I remember. Most of the hymns in chapel were dry, dull and uninspiring. That one was one of the few truly happy...jubilant, ones.
jonnyofthedead 10-07-2002, 02:45 PM On an entirely unrelated note...

The Frog 11-12-2002, 10:10 PM Easy Listening
Gather-me-grandchildren if you love a good mystery
Gather-me-grandchildren for a little church history
It's 2044
You're avoiding our turn-of-the-century ways
How did we strike it rich?
Kissing up to the powerful
How did we make our pitch?
Satellites by the towerful
Why do you young people have to go and get caught up in a radical phase?
My conscience was clear and my wallet was full
I didn't hear none of this "sacrifice" bull
Tough times call for a backtrack
Gimme that old-time easy listening
>Chorus<
Cuddle up, yeah, yeah
12 hours, twice a day
Cuddle up, yeah, yeah
Simmer down
Attaway
><
Color me old-fashioned, but I still remember when
The sermons were affirming, 'cause the Lord liked us better then
It's 2044
And I don't want to be my brother's keeper no more
Color me chicken yellow if I liked it in the ozone
Call me lemon jello if I lacked a little backbone
We're King's Kids, dang it
And we used to know what a housekeeper was for
Tickle my ear and I'll pay for your show
Sing about stuff that I already know
Whisper sweet nothings
Pour a nightcap
Gimme that old-time easy listening
>Chorus<
Gather-me-round children, 'cause your faith is a mystery
Gather me grandchildren for a little church history
It's 2044
And I miss our turn-of-the-century ways
I'm ok, you're ok, we're ok, so
I think I'm gonna buy my own radio show
Spread the good news and the Barry Manilow
Happy talk, no rock, non-stop easy listening
>Chorus<
The Frog 11-12-2002, 10:13 PM Hero
When the house fell asleep there was always a light
and it fell from the page to the eyes of an American boy
in a storybook land I could dream what I read
when it went to my head I'd see
I wanna be a hero
chorus:
Hero
it's a nice-boy notion that the real world's gonna destroy
you know
it's a Marvel comicbook Saturday matinee fairytale, boy
Growing older you'll find that illusions are brought
and the idol you thought you'd be was just another zero
I wanna be a hero
Heroes died when the squealers bought 'em off
died when the dealers got 'em off
welcome to the "in it for the money as an idol" show
when they ain't as big as life
when they ditch their second wife
where's the boy to go?
gotta be a hero
(chorus)
When the house fell asleep
from a book I was led to a light that I never knew
I wanna be your hero
and he spoke to my heart from the moment I prayed
here's a pattern I made for you
I wanna be your hero
The Frog 11-12-2002, 10:56 PM Jim Morrison's Grave
Am I a pilgrim
or another souvenir hound
in the city of lights
I set my sights
on a king's domain
It was a manhole
dug over at the edge of town
and a spray can scrawl
on the cemetary wall
said, "You'd better behave"
Jim Morrison's grave
It's getting cold here
and there ain't a lizard in sight
did the end begin
when you shed your skin
in the home of the brave
Somebody shake him
from the land of larger than life
where the remnants warn
of a legend born
in a dead man's cave
Jim Morrison's grave
I stay driven 'cause there's nowhere to park
I can't shut my eyes--I'm afraid of the dark
I lie awake
that stone left me chilled to the bone
sound the alarm before it's done
find Jim Morrison
Come away to Paris
let him see another day
let him fade out slowly
only fools burn away
let a true love show him what a heart can become
somebody find Jim Morrison
find Jim Morrison's grave
I get weary
Lord, I don't understand
how does a seed get strangled in the heart of a man
then the music covers like an evening mist
like a watch still ticking on a dead man's wrist
tick away
The Frog 11-12-2002, 11:10 PM Last one, an excerpt from Meat the Press. The song sets up the media as being a watchdog adn even in teh 80's when this was written, the media was sliding left.
well lookee there--the dog's asleep
whenever we march or say a peep
A Christian can't get equal time
Unless he's a looney committing a crime
listen up if you've got ears
I'm tired of condescending sneers
I've got a dog who smells a fight
and he still believes in wrong and right
:D
Thank you for those lyrics, Froggie. Interesting lyrics... I especially like the last one. :D
I'll have to try downloading some of those songs. :)
RightWingZealot 11-13-2002, 04:39 PM I think the last one was by Steve Taylor...
he is the guy singin in Chagall Guevera.
The Frog 11-13-2002, 04:57 PM All of the ones I posted were Steve.
Hero is a fav of mine.
I'm gonna post a couple more songs by Switchfoot. (i like them!!)
I Dare You to Move
Welcome to the planet
Welcome to existence
Everyone's here
Everyone's here
Everybody's watching you now
Everybody waits for you now
What happens next
What happens next
I dare you to move
I dare you to move
I dare you to lift yourself up off the floor
I dare you to move
I dare you to move
Like today never happened
Today never happened before
Welcome to the fallout
Welcome to resistance
The tension is here
Tension is here
Between who you are and who you could be
Between how it is and how it should be
I dare you to move
I dare you to move
I dare you to lift yourself up off the floor
I dare you to move
I dare you to move
Like today never happened
Today never happened
Maybe redemption has stories to tell
Maybe forgiveness is right where you fell
Where can you run to escape from yourself?
Where you gonna go?
Where you gonna go?
Salvation is here
I dare you to move
I dare you to move
I dare you to lift yourself up off the floor
I dare you to move
I dare you to move
Like today never happened
Today never happened
Today never happened
Today never happened before
You
There's always something
In the way
There's always something
Getting through
But it's not me
it's You
Sometime's ignorance
Rings true
But hope is not in
What I know
Not in me
It's in You
It's all I know
And I find peace
When I'm confused
I find hope when
I'm let down
Not in me
But in You
I hope to lose myself
For good
I hope to find it in the end
Not in me
It's You
It's all I know
This is Your Life (Switchfoot - A Beautiful Letdown (http://www.punkreviews.com/music/a3178.htm))
Yesterday is a wrinkle on your forehead
Yesterday is a promise that you've broken
Don't close your eyes
Don't close your eyes
This is your life.
And today is all you've got now.
And today is all you'll ever have.
Don't close your eyes
Don't close your eyes
This is your life, are you who you want to be?
This is your life, are you who you want to be?
This is your life, is it everything you've dreamed
that it would be when the world was younger,
and you had everything to lose?
Yesterday is a kid in the corner
Yesterday is dead and over.
This is your life, are you who you want to be?
This is your life, are you who you want to be?
This is your life, is it everything you've dreamed
that it would be when the world was younger,
and you had everything to lose?
Don't close your eyes
Don't close your eyes
The Beautiful Letdown
It was a beautiful letdown
When I crashed and burned
When I found myself alone, unknown
and hurt
It was a beautiful letdown
The day I knew,
That all the riches this world had to offer me
will never do.
In a world full of bitter pain,
and bitter doubt,
I was trying so hard to fit in,
Fit in, until I found out
that I don't belong here
I don't belong here
I will carry a cross and a song
where I don't belong
I don't belong.
It was a beautiful letdown
When you found me here
Yeah, for once in a rare blue moon
I see everything clear.
I'll be a beautiful letdown
That's what I'll forever be
And though it may cost my soul
I'll sing for free.
We're still chasing our tails
In the rising sun
In our dark water planet still spinning
In a direction no one wins
No one's one.
See, I don't belong here
Well, I don't belong here,
I will carry a cross and a song
where I don't belong.
I don't belong here
I don't belong
I'm gonna set sight
And set sail
For the kingdom come, kingdom come
Your kingdom come
Won't you let me down!
Let my foolish pride forever let me down
Easy living, you're not much like the name
Easy dying, you look just about the same
Would you please take me off your list?
Easy living please come on and let me down.
We are a beautiful letdown
Painfully uncool
The church of the dropouts
The losers, the sinners, the failures, and the fools
What a beautiful letdown
Are we salt in the wound?
Let us sing one true tune
I don't belong here
I don't belong here
It feels like I don't belong here, yeah
It goes like I don't belong here
I don't belong
Won't you let me down
C'mon and let me down
let me down
So glad that I'm let down
C'mon and let me down
Cuz I don't belong here
Won't you let me down
TwntyCent 04-09-2003, 07:25 PM Here is my new favorite song by MercyMe:
I can only imagine
What it will be like
When I walk
By your side
I can only imagine
What my eyes will see
When your face
Is before me
I can only imagine
CHORUS:
Surrounded by Your glory, what will my heart feel
Will I dance for you Jesus or in awe of you be still
Will I stand in your presence or to my knees will I fall
Will I sing hallelujah, will I be able to speak at all
I can only imagine
I can only imagine
When that day comes
And I find myself
Standing in the Son
I can only imagine
When all I will do
Is forever
Forever worship You
I can only imagine
Thanks for those lyrics, Rudy! :)
My new favorite song (at the moment) is 'This is Your Life'.... I just got the cd Beautiful Letdown, and I've been listening to it over and over. You should get it, it's really good!
BonnieBon 04-11-2003, 03:31 AM Hear Our Prayer
Words and Music by Tanya Riches
Song Category: Petitions
Performed by: Hills Youth Praise and Worship
Hear our prayer, Spirit come
How I long for
Your sweet touch
On my knees, I cry out
Jesus, Savior
Behold Your child
Like a deer longing for water
My soul yearns
Only You can fill
My deep hunger
My heart burns
My heart burns
Oceans deep, mountains high
O my God I cannot live
Without Your love
I cannot live without Your love
..i miss church :(
here's another good one.. the first Christian song I heard before i got saved-- i was at the office for what was later the church i attended, because i was studying with my friend that night and she had to take an hour off for a music rehearsal singing this song...
POINT OF GRACE - God Is With Us
Album: Rarities & Remixes (2000)
Words and Music by Robert Sterling
A rushing river sweeps around us
Just as dark and cold as night, it surrounds us
But we pass through the water to a safer shore
We're sheltered from the raging river's roar
(Chorus)
Though the night is long
And the river's strong
Still God is with us
We can stem the tide
Reach the other side
For God is with us
The river deepens, night grows darker
And the struggle seems to be getting harder
Today has troubles yesterday has never known
But we don't have to face them on our own
(Repeat Chorus)
And when we face the river's roll
He holds our hand and won't let go
thank you so much for that, Bonnie! I wish I could hear those songs, I bet they're beautiful. I know what you mean about missing church. Since I moved up here, I haven't found a good church nearby...(I live out in the country) so I haven't been going regularly. :( My church in LA (the one I told you about) had the BEST, most beautiful music... that was one of the things I loved about it. It was a really cool band, I wish you could hear them.
Thanks again! :)
Love,
cindy
Gone
She told him she'd rather fix her makeup
than try and fix what's goin on
but the problem keeps on calling
even with the cell phone gone
She told him that she believes in living,
bigger than she's living now
But her world keeps spinning backwards,
and upside down
Don't say so long, and throw yourself wrong
Don't spin today away, cause today will soon be
Gone,
like yesterday is gone,
like history is gone,
just try and prove me wrong,
and pretend like you're immortal.
She said, he said live like no tomorrow
every day we borrow, brings us
one step closer
to the edge. Infinity.
where's your treasure, where's your hope
if you get the world, and lose your soul?
She pretends like she pretends like
she's immortal,
Don't say so long, you're not that far gone
this could be your big chance to make-up,
today will soon be
Gone,
like yesterday is gone
like history is gone,
the world keeps spinnin on
you're going, going, gone,
like summer break is gone,
like Saturday is gone,
just try and prove me wrong, and pretend like you're immortal
(you're immortal) you're immortal (you're immortal) ha-ah
we are not infinite we are not permanent nothing's immediate
and we pretend like we're immortal.
We are so confident in our accomplishments
Look at our decadence
gone, (gone) like Frank Sinatra, (gone)
like Elvis and his mom (gone)
like Al Pachino's cash, (gone)
nothing lasts in this life (gone)
My high school dreams are gone (gone)
My childhood sweets are gone (gone)
Life is a day that doesn't last (gone)
for long (gone)
Life is more than money (gone)
Time was never money (gone)
Time was never cash (gone)
Life is still more than girls (gone)
Life is more than hundred dollar bills (gone)
and roto-tom fills (gone)
Life is more than fame (gone),
and rock and roll (gone),
and thrills(gone)
all the riches of the kings end up in wills (gone)
We've got information in the information age,
but do we know what life is
outside of our convenient Lexus cages?
She said, he said live like no tomorrow,
every moment that we borrow,
brings us closer to the God who's not short of cash
(Jon talking) Hey Bono, I'm glad you asked,
Life is still worth living, life is more that we are.
trinity - jennifer knapp
You in the mirror. starin back at me. O' conscience let me be...
to the pure, all things are pure. to those who defiled
unbelieving: nothing is pure.
Their minds, their conscience defiled.
They profess to know God. But deceive him by deeds all the while.
Where do I stand, on the rock or in the sand?
O' Holy Spirit won't you help me understand,
Holy spirit won't you say a prayer for me? with your groanings.
My mind, my conscience defiled!
send the blood of the Lamb, don't leave me in exile.
What was the promise on the Cross of Calvary?
Confess the Lord and the truth shall set you free..
create in me a clean heart, O God.
Renew a steadfast spirit within me.
To my prayers you've always given heed.
Blessed be thy God. Who never turned away from me.
Hid his face from all my sin, forgot my iniquity.
raise your hands sing praises to the Lord. He's the King
and he'll reign forevermore. He died on the cross of
Calvary. He died to save a wretch like me!
peace - jennifer knapp
He is my Light and my Salvation
whom have i to fear
in His secret place i'll hide and pray
that i might hear a simple word
o, how i would have despaired
if You had not come found me there
i can lean against Your throne and find my Peace
find my Peace
and when my enemies draw near
i pray that they will find
that i'm protected and secure
all tempests He will bind with a mighty word
o, how i would have despaired
if You had not come found me there
i can lean against Your throne and find my Peace
find my Peace
He is my Light and my Salvation whom have i to fear?
Denial 07-25-2003, 01:23 PM Cradle of Filth writes some of the most amazing lyrics ever....
Cradle of Filth - Bathory Aria
Snuffed tapers sighed
As Death left impressing
His crest of cold tears on the Countess
Benighted like ill-fated Usher
The House of Bathory shrouded
'Neath griefs dark facade
If only I could have wept
In mourning by Her side
I would have clasped Her so tight
Like storm-beached Aphrodite
Drowned on Kytherean tides
And Kissed Her
For from Her alone
My lips would have known
Enigmas of shadowy vistas
Where pleasures took flesh
And pain, remorseless
Came freezing the breath
Of raucous life hushed unto whispers
Benighted.
Inhaling the pale waning moonlight that crept
Through the crypt of Her Lord who so lucidly slept
Benighted.
Exhaling the wail of black widowhood's toll
Waxing eternal night entered Her soul
Now haranguing grey skies
With revenge upon life
Gnathic and Sapphic
Needs begged gendercide
Delusions of Grandier denounced the revolt
Of descrying cursed glass, disenchanted in vaults
Encircled by glyphs midst Her sin-sistered cult
With hangman's abandon She plied spiritworlds
To Archangels in bondage
From light to night hurled
Cast down to the earth where torment would unfurl.......
But soon,
Her tarot proved
Hybrid rumours spread like tumours
Would accrue
And blight Her stars
To better bitter truths
Of cold bloodbaths
As bodies rose
In rigid droves
To haunt Her from their
Shallow burials imposed
When wolves exhumed
Their carthen wombs
Where heavy frosts had laboured long
To bare their wounds
To the depths of Her soul they pursued
Wielding their poison they flew
Like a murder of ravens in fugue
And knowing their raptures
Would shatter Her dreams
She clawed blackened books for damnation's reprieve
Baneful cawed canons on amassed enemies
So Hallow's Eve
As She received
Like Bellona to the ball
Those enemies
Fell-sisters heaved
Her torturies
Cross stained flagstones
To Her carriage reined to flee
But She knew She must brave the night through
Though fear crept a deathshead o'er the moon
Like a murder of ravens in Fugue
For each masked, jewelled gaze held dread purpose
Horror froze painted eyes to cold stares
And even Her dance
In the vast mirrors cast
Looked the ill of Her future
If fate feasted there....
In an age crucified by the nails of faith
When rank scarecrows of christ blighted lands
An aloof Countess born an obsidian wraith
Dared the abyss knowing well She was damned
Her life whispered grief like a funeral march
Twisted and yearning, obsessed an entranced
With those succumbing to cruelty
Crushed 'neath the gait of Her dance
A whirlwind of fire that swept through the briers
Of sweet rose Her thickets of black thorn had grasped...
She demanded the Heavens and forever to glean
The elixir of Youth from the pure
Whilst Her lesbian fantasies
Reamed to extremes
O'er decades unleashed
Came for blood's silken cure
But Her reign ended swiftly
For Dark Gods dreamt too deep
To heed Her pleas
When Her gaolers were assailed
With condemnations from a priest
Who'd stammered rites
In the dead of night
For maidens staining winding sheets
And She postured proud
When Her crimes were trowelled
And jezebelled to peasant lips
Though She smelt the fires
That licked limbs higher
To the tortured cunts of accomplices
So ends this twisted fable's worth
And though spared the pyre's bite
By dint of nobled bloodlined birth
Her sins (crimes) garnered Her no respite
Forever severed from the thrill of coming night
Where slow Death alone could grant Her flight
"The Spirits have all but fled judgement
I rot, alone, insane,
Where the forest whispers puce laments for me
From amidst the pine and wreathed wolfsbane
Beyond these walls, wherein condemned
To the gloom of an austere tomb
I pace with feral madness sent
Through the pale beams of a guiltless moon
Who, bereft of necrologies, thus
Commands creation over the earth
Whilst I resign my lips to death
A slow cold kiss that chides rebirth
Though one last wish is bequathed by fate
My beauty shalt wilt, unseen
Save for twin black eyes that shalt come to take
My soul to peace or Hell for company"
My soul to Hell for company
RightWingZealot 07-25-2003, 02:58 PM Im sure that is just the sort of lyrical content Cindy wanted in her thread.
heh.
BIG GABE 07-30-2003, 08:13 PM cradle of filth f'n rox. I thought I'd never see their lyrics in this place, lolz. Thanx for the post anyhow, I'd never have understood that guys lyrics with the way he sings and all
One Generation
Lyrics and Music by Paul Colman
Well you say your generation
Learnt from all the past mistakes
And you build your reputation
On your passion to make them pay
And you sing your revolution
In the message of a song
And though you try so hard to change them
If they can't hear the words
They can't sing along
All my generation let's be the ones who see
It takes one generation to bend on one knee
And take responsibility
Or we're just going to see it go on and on
Well the words need re-definition
And our minds they need to change
We got to face the recognition
If you want things to change
You can't stay the same
And the sons they need to father
In a way they did not receive
And the word of this revolution
Is to give and not wait to receive
Your Man
Lyrics by Paul Colman
I've been a tough man, I've been a hard man
I've been a man who's been willing to start a
fight or three
I've been a harsh man and
I've been a "get things done" man
And I've seen a lot of things man
But now all I want is
I want to be your man
I've been a young man and I've been a foolish man
I've been a proud man
And worse than that I've been proud I am
I've been a loved man and I've been a wanted man
I've been a broken man but now all I want is
I want to be wise as a serpent
Gentle as a dove
I want to be quick to listen
And slow to speak above
So now I'm giving to you everything I am
I give you all that's in my hands
I lay my body down
And I'm giving you my heart
Cause I want to be your man
I love that last song! Eh, I love all his songs! :nice: And I haven't even heard PC3's first cd, it's supposed to be good too.. i'm gonna buy it. btw jojo, feel free to post lyrics you like here too. (if you want) :)
There's more that rises in the morning than the sun
And more that shines in the night than just the moon
There's more than just this fire here that keeps me warm
In a shelter that is larger than this room
And there's a loyalty that's deeper than mere sentiments
And a music higher than the songs that I can sing
Stuff of Earth competes for the allegiance
I owe only to the Giver of all good things
So if I stand let me stand on the promise that you will pull me through
And if I can't, let me fall on the grace that first brought me to You
So if I sing let me sing for the joy that has born in me these songs
And if I weep let it be as a man who is longing for his home
And there's more that dances on the prairies than the wind
And more that pulses in the ocean than the tide
There's a love that's fiercer than the love between friends
More gentle than a mother's when her baby's at her side
And there's a loyalty that's deeper than mere sentiments
And a music higher than the songs that I can sing
The stuff of Earth competes for the allegence
I owe only to the Giver of all good things
So if I stand let me stand on the promise that You will pull me through
And if I can't let me fall on the grace that first brought me to You
And if I sing let me sing for the joy that has born in me these songs
And if I weep let it be as a man who is longing for his home
So if I stand let me stand on the promise You will pull me through
And if I can't let me fall on the grace that first brought me to You
And if I sing let me sing for the joy that has born in me these songs
And if I weep let it be as a man who is longing for his home
And if I weep let it be as a man who is longing for home

The Miscreant 02-06-2004, 03:31 AM Leonard Cohen - Hallelujah
Now I've heard there was a secret chord
That David played, and it pleased the Lord
But you don't really care for music, do you?
It goes like this
The fourth, the fifth
The minor fall, the major lift
The baffled king composing Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Your faith was strong but you needed proof
You saw her bathing on the roof
Her beauty and the moonlight overthrew her
She tied you
To a kitchen chair
She broke your throne, and she cut your hair
And from your lips she drew the Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
You say I took the name in vain
I don't even know the name
But if I did, well really, what's it to you?
There's a blaze of light
In every word
It doesn't matter which you heard
The holy or the broken Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
I did my best, it wasn't much
I couldn't feel, so I tried to touch
I've told the truth, I didn't come to fool you
And even though
It all went wrong
I'll stand before the Lord of Song
With nothing on my tongue but Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah

Above all powers above all kings
Above all nature and all created things
Above all wisdom and all the ways of man
You were here before the world began
Above all kingdoms above all thrones
Above all wonders the world has ever known
Above all wealth and treasures of the earth
There's no way to measure what You're worth
Crucified laid behind the stone
You lived to die rejected and alone
Like a Rose trampled on the ground
You took the fall and thought of me
Above all
Above all powers above all kings
Above all nature and all created things
Above all wisdom and all the ways of man
You were here before the world began
Above all kingdoms above all thrones

Thanks jojo! :) I know I've heard that song on the radio... who sings it again?
Spoken for
by Mercy Me
Take this world from me
I don't need it anymore
I am finally free
My heart is spoken for
Oh and I praise you
Oh and I worship you...
CHORUS:
Covered by your love divine
Child of the risen Lord
To hear you say "This one's mine"
My heart is spoken for
Now I have a peace
I've never known before
I find myself complete
My heart is spoken for
Oh and I praise you
Oh and I worship you...
Covered by your love divine
Child of the risen Lord
To hear you say "This one's mine"
My heart is spoken for
By the power of the cross
You've taken what was lost
And made it fully yours
And I have been redeemed
By you that spoke to me
Now I am spoken for
Covered by your love divine
Child of the risen Lord
To hear you say "This one's mine"
My heart is spoken for
2X
Take this world from me
Don't need it anymore...

hmm, the version i heard of that song was sung by a girl. dunno who exactly.
and thanks, i hope you are too! :)

btw jojo... I've had that 'Above All' song on my mind for days now! I like it though. :)
That line "like a rose, trampled on the ground" gets me... especially after seeing The Passion... those words fit what I saw. Something horrible but something so awesome came out of it. I'd be interested in hearing your thought on the movie, btw.

I get choked up when I hear that line. In just a few sentences so much is delivered. I did hear it sung by a group of girls on the radio. Smiths recording is better if you ask me.
I might go see Passion this weekend if I can steal away from Daddy duty for a while. Martha and I talked it over and agreed the kids won't see it.
Solution
Lyrics by Paul Colman
Opened my history book to take a better look
At where we came from and where we're going
Without a sense of time
You've got no ears or eyes
I saw a broken rhyme called human learning
You know this is serious
We're repeating things we've done
Do you wanna be a part of the solution?
Do you wanna hey, hey, hey?
2000 years ago the greatest radical
Walked the earth and said we are forgiven souls
Have we forgotten Him and made religion king?
Love and grace is what we should be offering
You know this is serious
We're repeating things we've done..
Do you wanna be a part of the solution?
Do you wanna hey, hey, hey?
Be one, yeah
(To be one)
To be one is a solution
That's a solution
To be one's a solution
You know this is serious
We're repeating things we've done
We must be delirious
Thinking it's new under the sun
Do you wanna...
Do you wanna be a part of the solution?
Do you wanna hey, hey, hey?
To be one, to be one, to be one is the solution.
I have to hear this now. :|
You should get their cd ('One') , it's great. I give it a http://www.discussanything.com/forums/images/icons/icon14.gif :p

At the foot of the cross (Ashes To Beauty)
Kathryn Scott
At the foot of the cross
Where grace and suffering meet
You have shown me Your love
Through the judgment You received
And You've won my heart
Yes You've won my heart
Now I can
Trade these ashes in for beauty
And wear forgiveness like a crown
Coming to kiss the feet of mercy
I lay every burden down
At the foot of the cross
At the foot of the cross
Where I am made complete
You have given me life
Through the death You bore for me
And You've won my heart
Yes You've won my heart
Now I can
Trade these ashes in for beauty
And wear forgiveness like a crown
Coming to kiss the feet of mercy
I lay every burden down
At the foot of the cross
I'm laying every burden down
I'm laying every burden down
The morning melt. My heart receives.
Thankie sis. :)

Refine Me
Artist: Jennifer Knapp
Album: Kansas
I come into this place, burning to receive Your peace
I come with my own chains, from wars i fought for my own selfish gains
You're my God and my father, i've accepted Your son
But my soul feels so empty now, what have i become?
Lord...
Come with Your fires, burn my desires
Refine me
Lord...
My will has deceived me, please come and free me
Refine me
My heart can't see, when i only look at me
My soul can't hear, when i only think of my own fears.
They are gone in a moment, You're forever the same
Why did i look away from You, how can i speak Your name?
Lord...
Come with your fires, burn my desires
Refine me
Lord...
My will has deceived me, please come and free me
Come rescue this child, for i long to be reconciled to You...
All I can do, is lift my heart and soul to You
and pray. oh i will pray...
Lord...
Come with your fire, burn my desires
Refine me
Lord...
My will has deceived me, please come and free me
Come rescue this child, for i long to be reconciled to You...
Refine me... Refine me...

He Reigns
It's the song of the redeemed
Rising from the African plain
It's the song of the forgiven
Drowning out the Amazon rain
The song of Asian believers
Filled with God's holy fire
It's every tribe, every tounge, every nation
A love song born of a grateful choir
It's all God's children singin
Glory, glory, hallelujah
He reigns, He reigns
Let it rise above the fore-winds
Caught up in the heavenly sound
Let praises echo from the towers of cathedrals
To the faithful gathered underground
Of all songs sung from the dawn of creation
Some were meant to persist
Of all the bells rung from a thousand steeples
None rings truer than this
(chorus)(x4)
And all the powers of darkness
Tremble at what they've just heard
Cause all the powers of darkness
Can't drown out a single word
(chorus)(till end)
When all God's children sing out
Glory Glory Hallelujah
He reigns, He reigns
All God's children sing out
Glory Glory Hallelujah
He reigns, He reigns
All God's people sing out
Glory Glory Hallelujah
He Reigns, He reigns

This is one of the most beautiful songs I've heard. I wish you could hear it, but anyway, here are the lyrics.
Still
Hide me now, under Your wings
Cover me, within Your mighty hand
When the oceans rise and thunders roar
I will soar with You, above the storm
Father, You are King over the flood
I will be still, know You are God
Find rest my soul, in Christ alone
Know His power, in quietness and trust
When the oceans rise and thunders roar
I will soar with You, above the storm
Father, You are King over the flood
I will be still, know You are God
BIG GABE 12-07-2004, 03:53 PM I like my religious songs poetically coded a bit so I know it's a song about God without it explicitly saying such. But that's just me...
Who are the artists of the last two song lyrics you posted?
Who are the artists of the last two song lyrics you posted?
Hola. I don't know who the last song is by... but He Reigns is by the Newsboys.
Here's another song... and there's a story behind it. You guys may think this is crazy, but in the last few years I have thought a little about changing my first name. Anyway, a few days ago, this man I know was sort of joking around and said he was going to change my name from Cindy (sin-dee) to no-sindee. (haha) And I told him that I actually have thought about changing my name because I don't like that my name is so Pagan. (Cynthia means Moon Goddess) He told me that years ago he changed his name, from Rob to Judah. (He is a Messianic Jew)
So then, a few days later, one of my roommates, who had no idea that I had thought about changing my name, was playing the guitar and singing, and she said she was going to sing a song for me. One of her gifts is singing prophetic songs, or singing in the Spirit. That was the second time, btw, that she sang a song to me that was exactly the perfect words for that particular moment.
I will change your name
D.J Butler
I will change your name
You shall no longer be called
Wounded, outcast
Lonely or afraid
I will change your name
Your new name shall be
Confidence, joyfulness
Overcoming one
Faithfulness, friend of God
One who seeks my face.
RightWingZealot 12-11-2004, 10:53 PM i hope you are kidding.
Changing your name becuase it is "pagan"?
there is nothing wrong with your name.
Naomi is a beautiful Hebrew name.
RightWingZealot 12-12-2004, 10:34 AM Cynthia is a beautiful name as well, and there is absolutley no reason to change it simply becuase it came from a culture that took a while to convert to christianity.
Your name is what you make of it. I dont think anyone meets you, hears the name Cindy and says "wow. moon godess. you must be a pagan."
Just becuase your name is cynthia doesnt mean you have to worship a moon godess, and just becuase my name is jason doesnt mean I have to be a healer, or hang out with argonauts.
no changing your name. I dont want to have to tell people one of my closest friends ran off and joined some religous organization and changed her name. It's just so 60's.
What will the neighbors think?
God made the moon. Jason and the Argonauts is an awesome story. God loves Pagans. There is nothing in the Bible that says your name has to be Hebrew.
RWZ is right.
Merry Christmas Cindy!!! :)
BIG GABE 12-12-2004, 02:41 PM I didn't know Cindy was short for Cynthia. I learned something today! I also didn't know it had 'moon goddess' meanings. I just thought that was "Diana."
I would be very sad if you changed your name. I wouldn't be able to call you 'cindicita' anymore :(
On a related note, I'm changing my name to Ram Krsna Sanchez! Oh and jojo, yeah, Naomi is a pretty name, but I like the Spanish version "Noemi" better. If I have a daughter I'm going to name her "Noemi"
It's just so 60's.
What will the neighbors think?
LOL!! well, I'm just thinking about it, i'm not rushing off to change it yet. I'll only change it if i'm sure that God wants to give me a new name. It's not like God has never changed people's names. (I can think of 4 or 5 Biblical examples off the top of my head) But I'll pray more about it, and wait for God on it.
Thank you though for saying Cynthia is beautiful. I like it too... and the meaning of it never mattered to me before, but in the last few years i haven't been crazy about the meaning (not that it's a big deal). and that when people shorten it, the sound is 'sin'... And btw, you know what my last name is, I was talking to my sister on the phone the other day and even she said that my last name brings to mind something having to do with a witch (no need to post it) so with the 2 names together it's paganarama. :D :hmm:

Of course God loves pagans, God loves all people He created. And yep, there's nothing in the Bible that says one's name has to be Hebrew... Like I said, I'll only do it if I really feel that it's what i'm supposed to do. It isn't uncommon, when people have a new identity in Christ (or in other faiths) to have a name change. I'm not saying that's the reason i've thought about it, i'm just saying that it does happen. :) Merry Christmas!!

Heh, my sister's name is Diana. its ok, you can still call me 'cindicita' if i change it. :D :) yeah, Naomi is a pretty name, but it's not easy to say!
(Drat, second attempt to send this.)
It's not like God has never changed people's names. (I can think of 4 or 5 Biblical examples off the top of my head) But I'll pray more about it, and wait for God on it.
The first example I thought of was Abram/Abraham. Then of course in the modern era there was Mother Teresa.

I second that emotion.

That can be easily enough be changed by marriage ;)
Anyhoo, my personal preference is that you don't change your name. But if you decide to, I'll respect your decision. Though it would be hard to call you anything other than Cindy (or when I use Cynthia in formal settings like when I mail you) since I've known you by that name for the last five years. Maybe there's always your middle name. Well, we'll see if you're led anywhere or decide to keep what you have and keep it simple.
Either way, God bless you forever and for always.

The cd is called 'The Gathering' by City on a Hill... and it's SO good!
The songs I was looking for lyrics for were The Gathering - Caedmon's Call, Dan Haseltine, Bebo Norman, Sara Groves... and a song called Instrument of Peace - Paul Colman Trio.
anyway, you should get that cd... just about every song on it i love!

Nothing But The Blood
by Matt Redman
album: Facedown (2004)
Your blood speaks a better word
Than all the empty claims I've heard upon this earth
Speaks righteousness for me
And stands in my defense
Jesus it's Your blood
What can wash away our sins?
What can make us whole again?
Nothing but the blood
Nothing but the blood of Jesus
What can wash us pure as snow?
Welcomed as the friends of God
Nothing but Your blood
Nothing but Your blood King Jesus
Your cross testifies in grace
Tells of the Father's heart to make a way for us
Now boldly we approach
Not by earthly confidence
It's only Your blood
What can wash away our sins?
What can make us whole again?
Nothing but the blood
Nothing but the blood of Jesus
I love this song by Delirious? If you haven't heard it, you should!
Majesty (Here I Am)
album: World Service (2004)
Here I am humbled by your Majesty
Covered by your grace so free
Here I am, knowing I'm a sinful man
Covered by the blood of the Lamb
Now I've found the greatest love of all is mine
Since you laid down your life
The greatest sacrifice
Majesty, Majesty
Your grace has found me just as I am
Empty handed, but alive in your hands
Majesty, Majesty
Forever I am changed by your love
In the presence of your Majesty
Here I am humbled by the love that you give
Forgiven so that I can forgive
Here I stand, knowing that I'm your desire
Sanctified by glory and fire
Now I've found the greatest love of all is mine
Since you laid down your life
The greatest sacrifice
I'm not sure who originally wrote this song, but I think it's Martin Smith of Delirious. Anyway, this is a song that we sang a lot in Kona, I love this song...
Did you feel the mountains tremble?
Did you feel the mountains tremble
Did you hear the oceans roar
When the people rose to sing of
Jesus Christ the risen one
Did you feel the people tremble
Did you hear the singers roar
When the lost began to sing of
Jesus Christ the risen one
And we can see that God you're moving
A mighty river through the nations
And young and old will turn to Jesus
Fling wide your heavenly gates
Prepare the way of the risen Lord
Open up the doors and let the music play
Let the streets resound with singing
Songs that bring your hope
Songs that bring your peace
Dancers who dance upon injustice
Did you feel the darkness tremble
When all the saints join in one song
And all the streams flow as one river
To wash away our brokeness
And here we see that God you're moving
A time of Jubilee is coming
When young and old return to Jesus
Fling wide your heavenly gates
Prepare the way of the risen Lord
Another song by delirious? I love this song!
Everything
album: Glo
It's a beautiful day and the world is bright
'Cos you took me away from the longest night
What can I do but give all I have to you
It's a beautiful day and the page has turned
Deep in my soul now your fire burns
What can I do, I'll give it all up for you
You give me everything
Give me hope within
You're the song I sing
You give me everything
Give me hope to win
You're the song I sing
It's a beautiful day and we're running proud
And we'll run to the line
Hear the witness cloud
I know it's true
We're gonna fly
We're gonna dance
On that glorious day with you
You are the light that shines - hey hey
Deliver me
by David Crowder band
Illuminate
Deliver me out of the sadness
Deliver me from all the madness
Deliver me courage to guide me
Deliver me Your strength inside me
All of my life
I've been in hiding
Wishing there was someone just like You
Now that You're here
Now that I've found You
I know that You're the One to pull me through
Deliver me loving and caring
Deliver me giving and sharing
Deliver me this cross that I'm bearing
Oh, deliver me
Jesus, Jesus how I trust You
How I've proved You o'er and o'er
Jesus, Jesus precious Jesus
Deliver me
Come and pull me through
Come pull me through
