Elvis Presley landed in Cold War America in 1956 like an alien from another galaxy. Totally out of context! There were no precedents. He came on TV sneering and snarling, occasionally breaking into a smile as if to laugh at himself. His body language at concerts exuded sexuality. He pointed to girls in the audience, looking them in the eye. He brought girls to orgasm merely by raising an eyebrow. Some screamed. Some fainted! He was called the “atomic powered singer."

I was 10 when Elvis hit. Hound Dog on radio was electric. It was all adrenaline. I started buying his records: Jailhouse Rock, Paralyzed, Too Much, One Night, Stuck On You. Elvis had 18 number ones. If he had not been drafted into the Army, he might have had 30, maybe more.

Ironically, Elvis wanted to be a movie star as much or more than he wanted to be a singer. He could act but never got beyond playing himself. King Creole is his best film, and its soundtrack was phenomenal. Viva Las Vegas is the last movie that can be defended. Elvis and Ann-Margret made a sexy couple. She later revealed that their affair lasted a year.

It was this young Elvis who thrilled and shocked. He was still good after donning the jump suits in the 70s, but it was different. He did over a thousand concerts across America until his death in 1977. His final record was called Way Down, and it is among my favorites.

He paid for burning the candle at both ends and at 42, Elvis moved like an old man. It was pitiful. I teared up when I saw that final tape. But, his legend is intact. Elvis Presley remains the biggest star of all time!

Elvis was good in his early, pure rockabilly years. I think he represented the best of what rockabilly could be, but when he got a little fame he went to hell.

He wasn't unprecedented, though. I mean his pure-sex stage act was unprecedented, but his music wasn't. There was plenty of rock-n-roll before Elvis. He just added some sex to it.

The man could sing. I learned the following only a couple of weeks ago. Heard it and then researched it so I'd be sure I wasn't being lied to:

I Will Always Love You, written by Dolly Parton and made huge by Whitney Houston, was offered by Dolly to Elvis. After she wrote it, she offered it to Elvis. His manager told her that it was "SOP" to sign over half of the publishing rights to any song Elvis recorded. Parton refused, and that decision is credited with helping to make her many millions of dollars in royalties from the song over the years.

A nice Jewish boy, he was.

He had a little Jewish blood in him, but he certainly wasn't raised a Jew.

Correct. Although he would meet Talmudic standards of Jewish identity, his parents in fact told him not to even mention his Jewish heritage, because of prejudice in Memphis at that time.

Later on in life, he always wore the star of david too, saying that he didn't want to miss heaven because of a technicality:).

Though if you see his grave ,you will find a Star of David on both his and his mother's markers.

He was proud of his Jewish heritage.

Geddy Lee is definitely the better jewish musician. Elvis songs were kinda silly and most people can sing them. Try to sing a Rush song though!

Ok, fine, Geddy Lee is a better bass player than Elvis and more Jewish than Elvis, as Elvis was only a 1/4, but when it comes to singing, even people who actually DO like Geddy's voice would NEVER compare him to the KING, I mean, C'MON, WTF DUDE, that's retarded even FOR YOU to say:rolleyes:.

Elvis songs were kinda silly and most people can sing them. Try to sing a Rush song though!

Most people CANNOT sing them like it REALLY goes, it's just that everybody tries to sing his songs because they are popular and catchy, while most people only know like 2 Rush songs, and even then, they aren't catchy enough to inspire people to try to sing them:shrug:.

Let's be honest, Geddy Lee is a very good musician who hired one of the best drummers in Rock music. Elvis was THE BEST Rock'n'Roll singer in history and one of the best performers ever:nice:!

Geddy is so down to Earth. Unlike some crazies here.

I will agree on that, the same goes for the rest of the guys in his band, especially Alex, they are all very nice people, and an excellent band, I've met them and worked with them on a movie set, but comparing them to Elvis is absolutely insane:rolleyes:.

Šñøü†ê® once again exposes his tasteless buffoonery. I'm not a huge fan of Elvis, but only an idiot or troll (or both) would say Geddy Lee is a better vocalist. Geddy sings like Fin Raziel being morphed back into a human -- only more screeching and feminine.

WTF?

Elvis was originally laid to rest in the family masoluem, someone tried to seal his body and hold it for ranson,so he and mother's bodies were moved to Graceland because it had 24 hour a day security.

F+L (and others of his ilk) only know enough about things to be ignorant of them.
