View Full Version : Fancy Cocktails
I tend to enjoy a simple drink, scotch on the rocks, gin and tonic, or a beer. But every now and then you want soething a litlte fancy, you want something that tastes delicious or looks awesome.
What are your favorite 'fancy' cocktails?
i once had a virgin screwdriver ;)
this was on the recommendation of a friend i was with and he felt that it was too odd a male not drinking what appeared to be alcoholic in a bar. i obliged him by taking his drink recommendation

I've always favored tropical drinks, Mai Tais especially. Problem is everyone seems to make them differently and many of the alternate recipes suck so its a gamble to order them in a bar.

Cosmopolitans are best made with citrus flavored Stolichnaya.
Never order one if grenadine is used. It must be cranberry or nothing.
Shaken not stirred.
Cosmo is my favorite... and I was drinking them before Sex & the City. I went to a hole in the wall bar once and ordered a lemon drop. The bar tender put down a shot of vodka and a slice of lemon. As a general rule, though I stay away from the mixed cocktails. I like them, they don't like me. On vacation I'll have pina colada, mai tais or daiquiris.

Kamikaze. Not really fancy, but very effective.
I really like anything made with ginger liquor or ginger beer. A Whiskey Mule is fantastic. I also like a well made old fashioned.
IFF, the other thing to drink in a bar if you want to have a non alcoholic beverage is a soda water with lime. Looks like a gin and tonic or a vodka soda, but leaves out the alcohol :)

Lemon drops are good. The key to a good one imo is Cointreau. It's just not the same as using triplesec.
