She made the movie work. She should have won an Oscar, imho. Mattie didn't write the script, but she played it so damned well that her character literally made that movie work. jmho.

Damon was his usual very good.

I did not like Bridges character in the move. I'm not a Bridges fan (he played Wild Bill and I'm a ardent reader of Will Bill biographies; I've read several of them. The movie is a joke for it is so far removed from reality. He shoots people that mess with his hat in the movie. Never happened in reality. Nor did he have a relationship with Calamity Jane, much less having sex with her in a bar. Indeed, there is scant evidence

The key to the above is that Wild Bill had scant dealings with Jane, but the movie has lead people to believe they had an affair. A lie has become truth. Go figure...

The music in True Grit, the religious theme, was used in a way it did not anger non-believers or hype-up evangelistics. The choice of the music them was also brilliant.

Mattie was the real star imho. Robbed (okay, I'm being dramatic and overstating it) of an Oscar.

The Coen brothers film stuck to the novel,unlike the 1969 which santized the novel.

John Wayne did deserve the Oscar,but only for his career ,not for that performance.

But Steinfeld was the second best lead actress of last year IMO.

New True Grit kicked ass. It wasn't filmed in Colorado but was unfortunately filmed in NM eventhough the terrain looked a lot like the ozark plateau and the Oklahomo Territory. The stage that represented historic Ft. Smith was done very well and was true to the original. Matt Damon did a fabulous job. It was an outstanding job by the entire cast. It was BETTER than the original.

Apparently, the author loved this version because it was true to the story and he hated Glenn Campbell in the original. True Grit was awesome. Hailee was great, Damon was great, Bridges was great. I am consistently impressed with Bridges work.

Glen Campells acting in true grit was fucking so bad, as was Kim Darbys. The Duke was fucking awesome as usual.

Glen Campbell's acting was awful (in the day the joke was John Wayne got the Oscar for putting up with Glen Campbell's performance in that film) ,Kim Darby was actually a very good actress, but she was badly miscast in True Grit.

John Wayne was awesome in Stagecoach,Red River,The Searchers,Rio Bravo , especailly The Man Who Shot Liberty Vallence (his best IMO)and The Shootist , but not in True Grit.
