View Full Version : Cubase SVT 32 v5 1r1
RedLine99 09-11-2002, 09:41 PM Anybody using this? I can't get the friggin MIDI to read my keyboard. Do have I to "map" the keyboard in Win98 first?
When I installed it everything seemed to load/read fine. I know its got to be something in the settings, but I can't find where.
Dilbert 09-11-2002, 10:16 PM For some reason, finding the bug in a MIDI setup can be like extracting teeth. I've only ever done it on a Mac, and I've never used cubase (although I'd love to give it a try).
Sorry.
Foul Temptress 09-11-2002, 10:39 PM Oh, I thought this was about a SVT boat...
optimus 09-11-2002, 10:56 PM Actually I use Cubase. What kind of gear are you using and how do you have it connected? When you say your 'keyboard' are you using it as a controller?
RedLine99 09-11-2002, 11:04 PM I've got a Casio keyboard, about 10 years old or so, with MIDI In/Out/Thru. My sound card (Blaster PCI 128) has the split MIDI and joystick connectors on attached to the input. I unplugged the joystick thinking maybe that was the prob..nope.
I had a different MIDI connector box with my old Soundblaster card, but I can't find it anywhere. When I first loaded the software it showed two options for the output, one was SB PCI128 MIDI and I think the other one was SB PCI 128 Synth. I think the "synth" one showed up as inactive when I loaded the software.
If I can't get it to work I'm just going to run the keyboard thru a mixer, but I'd like to take advantage of the SVT Instruments and I think I need the keyboard for that?
optimus 09-12-2002, 01:31 AM Hmmm...in Cubase go to "system" under the 'audio' menu, and make sure that your ASIO device is what it should be.
When you press the keys on the keyboard, do the 'out' and 'in' signals light up on the transport bar at all?
Also make sure that your 'disable audio' isn't checked in the 'audio' menu.
If you're trying to use your sounblasters internal synth sounds, then yes you do have to have an external keyboard to trigger the sounds. It has to be active though. You really gotta get cubase to recognize MIDI, you really can do a TON in the editors, well worth getting it working.
You might want to check out this site for windows cubase users

I got Cubase SX last night, is that better? It's the latest thing... Lemme know if you want it, its 70mb
RedLine99 09-12-2002, 11:37 AM Thanks for the link, Optimus. No, I'm not getting any lights on the bar when I press a key, but it lights when i move the mouse??
I'm going to re-install it tonight. What should the ASIO device say? Almost all I could see anywhere was listings for the MIDI output. I couldn't get any MIDI ins to let me make a selection.
Tam, SX is for Win XP...I'll have to wait till I upgrade:p
optimus 09-12-2002, 01:20 PM Ok, if you're not getting anything lighting up then your keyboard is either not hooked up correctly, or there may be an issue with your soundcard driver or something.
Was this working before?
I do know that soundblasters can be kinda buggy. Make sure you have the most recent driver, you can probably download it from the soundblaster website.
The ASIO device should say something related to your soundblaster card. I'm not sure what it would be, I haven't used a soundblaster before.
Is this something that you just want to mess around with? Or do you want professional recordings?
RedLine99 09-12-2002, 01:52 PM I'll double check that I have the lastest soundcard driver tonight. I'm pretty sure i do.
Mainly want it for messing around, but I've got some original material I'd like to re-mix and dub onto. I had some Voyetra software that came with the old card, but I gave it away...it wasn't very useful anyway.
Thanks!
RedLine99 09-14-2002, 08:26 PM I give up. I think it is my soundcard as it appears there are some issues with Soundblaster cards. Gonna do some chores tomorrow then try and run it all from a mixer into the soundcard. Needed to do that anyway for guitar and vocals........
Thanks for you help!
RightWingZealot 09-19-2002, 04:28 PM cubase Sx is very nice. I'd check it out if you get the chance RedLine
RedLine99 09-19-2002, 10:49 PM I've got a copy of SX, but it won't install on Win98, RWZ.
I need to build another machine then upgrade to XP:D
RedLine99 09-25-2002, 06:15 PM Got it to work! Yaaaaaaaaaay:p
Had to change all the Midi setups from Multimedia in Control Panel to "External Midi Device". Re-installed..still no go. Then changed the DOS interupt from 5 to 7 in my Devices..and voila!
I'm thinking it was the card setup, but maybe it was something else I changed.
I'm starting work on my first tune titled "Electronic Warfare":D
Unrepresented 09-25-2002, 06:35 PM Gald to hear you fixed the bug....
I'm using a variety of music programs, mostly a combination of Fruity Loops and Cool Edit Pro to do recording with.
I've yet to meld actual external midi sequencing devices at this point. I'm just pointing and clicking using piano roll functions.
I can't really afford to invest in the hardware beyond where I'm at right now. someday it'd be really nice to have my hands playing keys rather than my mouse clicking 16th notes, but c'est la vie.
Good luck on your project:)
Justin
