My wife, since she's going through menapause, woke up at 5:30 one Saturday morning. When I awoke at my usual time, she said "I have a surprise for you!". Thinking happy thoughts, I quickly swept the sleep from my eyes. Dashing my hopes, she said "Look at your email!", whereupon I discovered that she had found a coupon for something called the Xtreme Team Fitness Boot Camp, which turns out to be a 6 week stay in hell. Apparently, an ex-Navy Seal decided to start a group dedicated to torturing otherwise innocent and unsuspecting civilians by having them turn out in the frigid predawn darkness 5 days a week to run, do pushups, run, lift weights, run, do situps, run, pull very large people by bungie cords wrapped around your waist, and run some more. We are on our second day, and I am just starting to hurt, everywhere. I also found out that 3 of my fellow workers are in the group, which means I have to put forth maximum effort. I know I'll be buff in 6 weeks, but it sucks right now!!!

I wouldn't mind going through ACTUAL boot camp again...

I've always assumed it would be rather funny the second time. The first time it's unknown, you're young, and there is the whole fear factor thing. But once you get past it, and then learn about the REAL military, you understand more about why some things are done and also know that most of it doesn't really matter. I think that a second time could actually be fun whereas the first time you're like "what the fuck is NEXT!?"...

As for those who take it way too seriously, they never change. They eventually become NCOs who think it's extremely hooah to volunteer their soldiers to do the most ignorant and mindless tasks possible. The more of their fellow solders are at home with their families, the better. No telling how many times my platoon had to say after to pick up cigarette butts in the parking lot while the rest of the Battery went home.

Needless to say, I eventually refused to touch cigarette butts. I don't smoke and I consider it disgusting. It's even MORE disgusting to pick up something so nasty that's been in these people's mouths. Typically you're not able to refuse to follow an order but I was always resourceful and claimed that it was an illegal order as several NCOs smoked yet never had to pick up butts. I claimed that an order to pick up their butts was essentially the same as ordering me to clean their POV. Rather than argue with me, they didn't make me pick up butts. I picked weeds instead. Still stupid but it's the principle of the matter.

Stupid spam bump, but it reminded me of this thread. How's it going so far, Hadit?

LOL these fitness boot camps are not like military boot camps :D. I did one for 6 months until I realized getting up at 5:30 was bullshit. There were some very out of shape people and the trainer would just tell them to work out at their own pace.

I got sidelined by a groin pull. Nasty sharp shooting pain. Not too good. Basically, I'm a little too old and a little too far out of shape to keep up that pace. I lost 6 pounds the first week, though, and gained some muscle definition.

Yeah, they told us that too, but then would punish the whole group if one of us couldn't keep up. I think one of the problems was the size of the group. We had 60 - 75 people at any one time, and only 3 trainers.
