I'm about to have to go work for my evil employer who makes me work 2nd shift instead of working 1st shift. Indeed, why can't I make 300k to work 1st shift... maybe 30 hours a week, if that.

Compound this with the fact that they actually expect me to DO stuff. How dare they? They sit up in their offices and drink coffee all day while pulling on their dicks and I do all the real work. Obviously I should make much more money than I do. But I can't quit because I'm a slave and would starve to death so we obviously need more social programs that would allow me to leech off of others whenever I decide I don't like being a slave.

The obvious solution is to raise taxes on businesses so I can quit my job and have the government provide for all my needs. Finally I will be the one drinking coffee and pulling on my dick all day!

I am the 99%

straw man

Not a straw man. I didn't knock down the argument. I work 2nds and make much less than my bosses, though I work harder. It would be great to be able to quit and not have to worry about my bills. I mean, I don't work because I want to. I work because I have bills to pay.

Oh, I'm sorry -I didn't realise that none of that was sarcastic, and that you now suddenly support unemployment benefits and increased business tax, and that you're not trying to send up what you perceive to be the OWS argument.

Because if that was sarcasm, of course, you just made a straw man.

Sarcasm =/= straw man.

Anyone who complains about their job and the amount of money they make at the job has no one to blame but themselves for choosing to work for someone else rather than creating and building their own business.

I think that's the most intelligent thing you've ever said on here.

LOL.

Most people here probably don't know this about me, but I'm a hard-core capitalist. At least when it comes to self-employment, building businesses, and building wealth at the individual level.

i will say one thing, however -- most physical work is easier than mental work. i sit in an office all day and write proposals or code. i work hard. people who have physical jobs have it easier. they can switch their minds off and not worry about a thing for the duration of their shift.

I work in IT and there are some days I just wish I was swinging a sledge hammer doing demolition instead of sitting behind a keyboard all day. Working at NYSE was easier than what I am doing now.

I've had both types of jobs. Both have their merits and faults. The general consensus is that whatever you're NOT doing is easier. Out of all the jobs I've had, however, I have to say I enjoyed the military the most.

Why not resign and find another one?

I love my job and the work. It is both physical and desk work and sometimes it sucks but dammit not working would sucketh much more.

What the hell is it with independence that so many are willing to relinquish to others? I love that I pay my own way in this world. I took maternity time off when my babies were born and I hated not earning money and living off my husband's check during that time. Living off the government dole would make me ill.

Has the mindset of Americans changed that much over the years?

I am in an extreme minority. I love my job and where I work and I get paid well to do it.

Same here, but I had to work my ass off to get where I am now.

I enjoy making things but I honestly don't have the business knowledge to patent the stuff and put it on the market. There are plenty of websites about that sort of thing but I figure most are a scam.

I love everything about my job but the commute. Otherwise I'm happy with where I work and what I do.
When my 16-year old graduates in May of 2013, I am so moving closer to work! :)

I've got a graduation gift for her and it rhymes with sock (http://www.surveymagnet.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/06/sex-around-the-clock.jpg)!

Whatever, dude.... Keep away from my daughter. I'm heavily armed, and you'd be nice target practice.

Why can't I mail her a clock???

In all seriousness, tough... you know I'm not interested, but if I were, she could do a lot worse.

I know you're not. And yes, she could do a whole lot worse than you. :)
