#1. Should prostitution be illegal? If so, why?
REGULATED, HEALTH ISSUE. WHY NOT?
#2. Should abortion be illegal? If so, why?
IF ABORTION IS KILLING A BABY, YES. iF NOT, NO.
#3. Should homosexuality be illegal? If so, why?
WHY WOULD YOU MAKE ILLEGAL SOMETHING PEOPLE HAVE NO CONTROL OVER? THAT WOULD BE LIKE MAKING MIDGETS ILLEGAL. FIND A CURE FOR BOTH, FINE.
#4. Should homosexual marriage be illegal? If so, why?
MARRIAGE IS BETWEEN A MAN NAD A WOMAN BY DEFINITION. NO NEED TO MAKE A HOMOSEXUAL ACTIVITY INTO SOMETHING ITS NOT. LEGAL ASPECTS CAN BE COVERED BY PRIVATE CIVIL AGREEEMENTS.
#5. Should discrimination based on race, age, sexual orientation, disability be illegal? If so, why?
IN THE PRIVATE SECTOR ONE SHOULD BE BE FREE TO ASSOCIATE WITH WHOMEVER ONE PLEASES. IN THE PUBLIC SECTOR DIFFERENT RULES APPLY. AS IN EDUCATION OR ANYTHING AFFECTING CHILDREN.
#6. What is the function of government?
TO SECURE THE SAFETY AND FREEDOM OF ITS CITIZENS. NOT TO BABY SIT.
#7. Is education a right? Should *all* citizens have to pay for a public education system - if they do not believe in it and do not use it?
A THOUROUGH AN EFFICIENT EDUCATION SYSTEM IS NECCESSARY TO THE NATIONAL SECURITY. IF ONE IS HOME SCHOOLED, THEY SHOULD BE EXEMPT FORM MOST, NOT ALL EDUCATION TAX.
#8. What sort of taxation do you support?
THE MINIMUM NECCESSARY TO SUPPORT THE VERY LIMITED ROLE OF GOV'T. I DO NOT BELEIVE IN INCOME REDISTRIBUTION PLANS.
#9. Do you support the Federal Reserve? If so, why?
I COULD ARGUE THIS ONE BOTH WAYS.
#10. Do you support social security, welfare, and other government handouts?
IN THE US, SS IS NOT A GOV'T HANDOUT, IT IS PAID FOR BY THE PEOPLE THROUGH THEIR CONTRIBUTIONS, AND PAYOUT IS BASED ON HOW MUCH IS PAID IN.
I AM AGAINST WELFARE AND GOV'T HANDOUTS.

Powerboss 09-10-2002, 01:11 AM #1. Should prostitution be illegal? If so, why?
It should only be legal in hidden areas, away from public view, as not to expose that element to children.
#2. Should abortion be illegal? If so, why?
Yes. Its murdering innocent life, plain and simple.
#3. Should homosexuality be illegal? If so, why?
No, but it shouldnt be glorified, celebrated and passed off as "normal" when it contradicts almost all laws of nature.
#4. Should homosexual marriage be illegal? If so, why?
They can have their "unions" as to give them access to benefits.
They do not get the sacred title of "marriage", that is reserved for a man and woman.
#5. Should discrimination based on race, age, sexual orientation, disability be illegal? If so, why?
In terms of govt hiring and school admissions no. In terms of Joe Schmoe with a small business......he should have the right to hire, or not to hire, whomever he desires.
#6. What is the function of government?
This depends...My personal definition would include:
To protect from enemies....to maintain pubic order and adherence to laws passed by them...to keep the playing field level for all....to stay out of the way of entrepreneurs, generally to leave people the hell alone.
#7. Is education a right? Should *all* citizens have to pay for a public education system - if they do not believe in it and do not use it?
No, its not a right, but it is something that is a must for anyone if they want to succeed in life.
Citizens should be able to choose what school they send their children to, public, private, charter and use the money they have paid in taxes as tuition towards the school of their choice.
#8. What sort of taxation do you support?
Consumption tax. Excluding the neccessities of life such as food, clothing, shoes.
#9. Do you support the Federal Reserve? If so, why?
No....Its a ponzie scheme.
#10. Do you support social security, welfare, and other government handouts?
No. It only creates more dependency and less freedom.
Did I pass?

#1. Should prostitution be illegal? If so, why?
Regulated. Like Cosmo said, for health reasons.
#2. Should abortion be illegal? If so, why?
No. It is not my place to make decisions for you or press my religious beliefs on you. Even though I don't agree with it.
#3. Should homosexuality be illegal? If so, why?
No. See number 2.
#4. Should homosexual marriage be illegal? If so, why?
No, but I don't think it should be called "marriage".
#5. Should discrimination based on race, age, sexual orientation, disability be illegal? If so, why?
Yes in the true senseof discrimination. However, in today's PC world, discrimination is one-sided.
#6. What is the function of government?
To protect the peolpe, establish laws, and to enforce those laws. It is not the government's function to play mama and daddy for the country. I believe in as little gv't intervention as possible.
#7. Is education a right? Should *all* citizens have to pay for a public education system - if they do not believe in it and do not use it?
Public education should be a right to better society. Yes we should all contribute to it's funding.
#8. What sort of taxation do you support?
A tax that taxes more based on the money you make. Progressive, right?
#9. Do you support the Federal Reserve? If so, why?
I support the original intentions of the FR. I think it has become obsolete to an extent now.
#10. Do you support social security, welfare, and other government handouts?
SS, yes. Welfare should be more limited. If you are capable of working, I shouldn't pay for your life's decisions.
Cynic 09-10-2002, 08:04 AM I'm just curious PB.
Cosmo 09-10-2002, 11:26 AM TEll us what you think Cynic, answer the questions, I'm curious too.
Cynic 09-10-2002, 12:27 PM Originally posted by yours truly
#1. Should prostitution be illegal? If so, why? Basically I have no quarrel with PB's stance on this.
Originally posted by yours truly#2. Should abortion be illegal? If so, why? Without wanting to get into an abortion debate; no.
Originally posted by yours truly#3. Should homosexuality be illegal? If so, why? Why the hell should it? If I want to go down the garden path, the government can't and shouldn't stop me.
Originally posted by yours truly#4. Should homosexual marriage be illegal? If so, why? Ah. The government should be COMPLETELY divorced (no pun intended) from the laws of the church. So, no, but you can't force it upon the church. Perhaps it would be helpful for the state to regard those homos who wish it "married".
Originally posted by yours truly#5. Should discrimination based on race, age, sexual orientation, disability be illegal? If so, why? Discrimination, in the long run, must be based on ability. The problem is getting there. Sometimes I think that postive discrimination is a highly necessary evil. For example in the police and judiciary.
Originally posted by yours truly#6. What is the function of government? To maximise the social freedom of its citizens, and to curb the problem of citizens inhibiting each other. That is, not only to make sure that citizens are free to speak, work and worship; but also to make sure that no-one is enslaved by poverty, ignorance or conformity.
Originally posted by yours truly#7. Is education a right? Should *all* citizens have to pay for a public education system - if they do not believe in it and do not use it? Absolutely.
Originally posted by yours truly#8. What sort of taxation do you support? Low corporation tax, high income tax. The former encourages wealth creation, the latter aids redistribution.
Originally posted by yours truly#9. Do you support the Federal Reserve? If so, why? I don't know all that much about it. Can anyone shed some light on this?
Originally posted by yours truly#10. Do you support social security, welfare, and other government handouts? As I understand it, 'social security' is a form of old age insurance. This seems the best way to deal with it.
As for the dole, people need to be genuinely seeking work to receive it. To not hand out the dole would be to starve the nations valuable labour resources, as well as being rather inhumane.
Cosmo 09-10-2002, 01:04 PM You could almost be a moderate. I think confiscating someones wealth to give to another is absolutely immoral, should be illegal (stealing).
How do you justify taking what I own for instance, to give to someone else?
Cynic 09-10-2002, 01:19 PM That requires a lengthy tirade on freedom. I'll probably write about it soon.
Cosmo 09-10-2002, 01:25 PM \Does it really? Or is it that for some reason it is OK in your mind to punish the producer of wealth and give it to one who exists on the public teat.
Redfield 09-10-2002, 01:26 PM Originally posted by Cynic
#1. Should prostitution be illegal? If so, why?
If organized, and subject to working policies (OSHA), health regulations, and taxability; no. I don't believe it should be legalized and be permitted to "roam free" of regulation. Prostitution by definition is a business.
#2. Should abortion be illegal? If so, why?
Not as a form of whimiscal birth control. As a means to preventing the birth of a child who would otherwise be brought into a poverty stricken family situation and become a burden to the social welfare system, yes.
#3. Should homosexuality be illegal? If so, why?
I don't feel that it should be illegal. If people find it offensive or disgusting, that's there opinion. Opinion to a person's sexual preference shouldn't dictate legality.
#4. Should homosexual marriage be illegal? If so, why?
If homosexual marriages were treated as heterosexual marriages and subject to all of the financial disadvantages of a heterosexual marriage, I don't see the problem. My problem is when such marriages demand acknowlegement of their "uniqueness".
#5. Should discrimination based on race, age, sexual orientation, disability be illegal? If so, why?
Yes. Why should there be a need to discriminate when race, etc, doesn't prove a rule? As long as there are exceptions to race, etc, there is no room for discriminatory practices.
#6. What is the function of government?
Republic/Democratic
#7. Is education a right? Should *all* citizens have to pay for a public education system - if they do not believe in it and do not use it?
Education should be free to anyone who wishes to study. Willing their parents are tax contributors on the national scale. I believe everyone should contribute via national and statewide taxes, to the public education system regardless of whether or not they have children in attendance. This insures the existance of an education system in America.
#8. What sort of taxation do you support?
I support a National Sales Tax as long as it replaces the Income Tax. A National Sales Tax would demand contribution from ANYONE living in the US regardless of citizenship, age, and employment.
#9. Do you support the Federal Reserve? If so, why?
I believe the has too much power designated to one person. I do not support it, but it is a neccessary evil.
#10. Do you support social security, welfare, and other government handouts?
I support SS, and Welfare. However, welfare needs stricter limitations on time spent, amount of "hand-out", eligibility of clients, and needs to stress more on the "welfare-to-work" facet of the welfare program.
Cosmo 09-10-2002, 01:32 PM |Redfield, I kind of agree with you on number two. Should it be mandatory then to be completely effective?
Redfield 09-10-2002, 01:56 PM Originally posted by Cosmo
Redfield, I kind of agree with you on number two. Should it be mandatory then to be completely effective?
I don't believe that anything "mandatory" is politically, or morally, good.
I think that the entire structure and philosophy of the abortion debate should be re-evaluated. Right now, a lot of pro-choicers base their opinions on a 30 yr old court case and examples (incidents) that took place before that.
To, sort of, answer your question; I believe that the "right" to choose has it's limitations just like all of our other rights. In the case of abortion I firmly believe it should have limits set to saving a mother's life, incest, rape, and be available to those who would otherwise produce another generation of poverty.
Limits is the key word. Right now, a woman's "right" to choose is the only American right that politicians are afraid to touch. Everyday, our REAL rights that were spelt out in our Constitution are being infringed upon and in some cases, ignored. But a supposed "right" to choose is given carte blanch based on a court decision. /rant
