View Full Version : Worst Movies
Aphasia 06-25-2001, 09:42 AM What movies would you say were the biggest waste of $8 and 2 hours (or more) of your life? What made them so bad?
One man's terrible movie is another man's cult classic...so what's the difference between 'so bad it's good' and 'so bad I got up and left'?
(I'm gonna think this over a bit before I give my answer, I think...)

I don't think I've ever cared enough to actually watch one. I basically only watched Sci-Fi and kids movies through most of the Madonna era - I actually really, really dislike almost every 80s teen movie I've seen (yes, even the 'classics').
I'm still working on my answer...there are so many bad movies I've seen, it's hard to narrow it down.

Turbostang 06-26-2001, 01:53 AM Where do I start...
Bad movies of the '90s.
Aliens Ressurection... Couldn't even figure out the story behind it.
Alins III So bad I walked out
Batman Forever. I wanted to burn the movie so bad...
Independence Day... the "Politically Correct" version of War of the Worlds.
Ravinous... Sick, sick, sick...
Armageddon... Zzzzzzz
Lost in Space... And you thought the original series was campy?
Speed... Sure needed some.
6th Seal... Would have been better if released BEFORE Y2K, and something had happened.
The Haunting... I feel sorry for the poor Gremlin they had to waste while making that movie.
Any movie with Star Trek in the title... I should have learned my lesson with Generations.
Brady Bunch Movie, Beverly Hillbillies, Flinstones, Rocky & Bullwinkle, etc... I'm having a Maalox moment.
The Rock... Lot's of potential, but fell flat on it's face.
Spice World... Nuff said!
And that is still only a partial list! LOL!

Artist formerly known as Reindeer
haha yeah. It is sad for every good movie, there are probably 20-30 bad ones.
But now, Gary, question. Were all those movies bad and NOT entertaining. Or just bad, but some of them entertaining?

Fordman50 06-26-2001, 12:01 PM "Higher Education" Saw it on HBO/skinamax last night. FULL of stereo types like: Skinheads VS Panthers on campus http://discussanything.com/Ubb/rolleyes.gif Very lop sided too. Cops like the skinheads but beat the panthers, Big mean skinheads cant fight or even beat the scrawniest of the panthers. Having been around hardcore skinheads, I can say that this is a complete joke. Basic premis was that white people are stupid and weak and black violence is justified. Hollywood is sick and needs cleaning up bad!

Any cartoon made into live action
Any bad '70's tv series made into a movie
Captian America (ugh..)
Smokey and the Bandit 3
Cannonball Run 2

Dude..Iron Eagle was cool!...now..granted i have seen ALL THREE...i would have to say..the first was the best....i still don't understand why they got rid of "DOUG" the kid in the first one...in the first 3 mins of the second one....that was surprising

74Mav 06-27-2001, 08:11 AM Regarding STV, the Sybock part was so over acted it was pathetic, the effects were cheesy as hell and the plot was so transparent it hurt to watch it.
I'll give a pass to the TMNT. The first two were pretty good, and actually outway the third, which was a stinker.
I stand by my review of Iron Eagle(s). The actor (term used VERY loosely) Jason Gedrick, in the first one, could not act at all. The only 'actors' in the whole film were Lou Gosset, Jr., and Tim Thomerson, and even they couldn't make interesting.
------------------
Uh, what country is this??
one that fits this list is Kubrick's Clockwork Orange. If you read the book, you know what I mean.
D Durden 06-27-2001, 04:17 PM *sigh* Copland . . . THAT blew.
Prophecy II . . . The first one was interesting . . . #2 was just that . . . #2.
Chariots of Fire . . . LOL!
But, man, Iron Eagle (first one) utterly and completely kicked my *** . . . and still does. The soundtrack is incredible, too.
And Ravenous . . . JEEEEEEEZ I loved that movie, but, alas, I'm an HP Lovecraft fan, so that would explain it.

I dunno...I read the book, and I'd say that I really liked the movie quite a bit, even if it did cut out the ending. (Incidentally, there was a reason for that - in my copy of the book, there's an intro explaining why.)

LOL! I'm a Dean Koontz fan... that movie to me was simply going for the shock value, and it over did it.

I'll admit a couple of them were entertaining... like Independence Day. I just regret not waiting for the video! http://discussanything.com/Ubb/smile.gif

James 09-09-2001, 03:59 PM "The Perfect Storm" ... the perfect bore would be more accurate.
"oohhh .... lookout .... it's another giant wave!!" a true story, eh? since nobody survived, nearly everything that took place on the boat was pure fiction.
"L.A. Confidential" ... Kim Bassinger? An oscar??!!! Danny DeVito chewin' scenery.
They kill off the only saving grace .... Kevin Spacey ... and it's all over. The final (3 hour?) scene? "We know where it's going ... just hurry up and DIE, would ya?"
Scott 09-10-2001, 02:10 AM wow...i would have to say that LA confidential is up in my top 10 fav movies...

James 09-10-2001, 11:15 AM Sorry Scott ... nothing personal. I thought it was quite over-rated. Especially in comparison to "Chinatown"; another noir detective flick set in Los Angeles. Russell Crowe and Kim Basinger (who's finest performance to date, was playing a dead woman in the Tom Petty video "Last Dance With Mary Jane") ... vs. Jack Nicholson and Faye Dunaway? No contest. The script by Robert Townsend is brilliant, without the self-conscious, "hipper-than-thou" Ellroy style.
Just one man's opinion, nothing more.
I must admit however, that opinion is probably influenced by attending an author's visit by James Ellroy. I had just read "My Dark Places", the account of his mother's unsolved murder, and was looking forward to hearing him speak. I thought he was an arrogant jerk.

Wedge 09-13-2001, 09:20 AM I have tons and tons of movies I could say, but one in paticular I absolutely thought sucked the most..
The Haunting
That movie was sucked so bad, it wasn't even funny..
Next in line is "the taleted mr. ripply" and "scary movie 2"
SM2 was more of a let down, b/c the first one I didn't know was going to be that perverted.. won't see it again though..

Shadowhawk 09-28-2001, 11:49 PM Well, since nobody else brought it up yet, I HAVE to bring up what I consider to be hands down the all time worst:
Street Fighter II
As a martial artist, I'll usually let alot slide on a karate flick, (at least if the action is decent). This POS had absolutely NO redeeming value whatsoever though. All the characters were distorted from their game version, the plot stank, the acting STANK, and Van Damme's fight scenes/moves were worse than usual. It's the ultimate lemon to me http://discussanything.com/Ubb/smile.gif
Coincidentally, Street Fighter the Animated Movie was pretty cool though.

Ahhhh I wanted my 6 years of life back after watching that...oops it only FELT like 6 years. The worst movie I have ever had the horror to sit through (I hated my best friend for a while after making mew watch it http://discussanything.com/Ubb/smile.gif).
The Big Kahuna.
I usually like really bad movies so I dont have too many more at the moment.

Actually, I'll do a retraction on O'Brother. The first time I watched it, I was sick as hell and just could get into it (maybe I couldn't comprehend it while running a 102 degree fever..). Watched it (reluctantly) with my wife this weekend and found a few things to like about it. Not as bad as I first thought, but, not my favorite either.
Still stand by my Perfect Storm opinion, though...

I love O Brother, but I am a diehard Coen Bros. freak. The only thing from them I have not liked was Barton Fink.
"I'm set to R-U-N-N-O-F-T!"
I really liked The Perfect Storm, except for one part. When they 1st get into town, the mom gives Marky Mark a big, earnest hug & says "Home safe". I understand the emotions involved in this particular scene without having to be beat over the head with them, that was a bit ham-fisted. But otherwise I thought it was excellent.

Criminal 10-22-2001, 06:36 PM Any movie based on a video game is sure to suck. Case in point, Mario Brothers, Tomb Raider, Mortal Combat etc.
Also to be avoided, comic strips brought to movies such as Batman, Superman, Popeye, Dick Tracey.
Finally, all of those boring as hell 19th century classics such as Room with a View, The Scarlett Letter, Sense and Sensibility, Washington Square, any other adaption of a Jane Austin, Henery James or EM Foster novel.
