My Boss wants me to find a computer program that does the following. (I have had no luck thus far... so it is time to turn to my fellow DA'ers for assistance)

I need a program that can take different sized squares and rectangles and place them randomly into a specific sized area.

Let me describe what its for...
I work in the Stone Industry, and we sell PA Bluestone that comes in the following sizes:

12"x12"
12"x18"
12"x24"
12"x30"
12"x36"
18"x18"
18"x24"
18"x30"
18"x36"
24"x24"
24"x30"
24"x36"
30"x30"
36"x36"

People are always asking for a template to help them lay out there patio. ... I'm looking for a program that will generate one for them. I don't know if anything like this exists... I've had no luck so far, so I thought maybe you guys would know of something on the market.

I don't know of any, but you might brush up on Visual Basic, and write a prog to do that yourself. Does'nt sound as if it would be too difficult.

If I had some time I might give it a try. Too many overdue assignments to catch up on though.

(By the way, what is it with Americans and non-S.I. units? Give meters a try. You won't look back. ;) )

Aesir..
You need to look at CAD programs. I'm pretty sure one exists that does that since they have them for building.
If that doesn't work, can't you use a drawing program using the dimensions and putting the shapes in yourself. If you saved the various patterns you could just look them up as you need them?
