Well, since I haven't seen all that many, topping the list of the few "classics" I've seen would be Cassablanca. That movie was so good, the story still made sense and was relevant to people today, even though it was at a totally differnt point in history then we are now. And the romance story was cuuuuuute. (Sue me, I'm a chick) Let's not forget all the quotes from it that made their way into everyone's vocabulary. "Play it again, Sam," "Here's looking at you, kid," "The usual suspects," and so on. Anyways, that's my two cents.

Unless of course I'm allowed to count the Star Wars movies as classics, then Empire Strikes back is the top, but most people tell me they're "too new" to be classics. *sigh*

i'd have to say that Citizen Kane is the BEST classic film of all time. the storyline was intriguing, the cinematography was excellent, and the acting and editing was superb.
hey, when you say classic films, does that mean old films or film noir?

Scott

i guess anything old would count...

anything from shirly temple movies...to wizard of oz....

to the Three Stooges.. http://discussanything.com/Ubb/smile.gif...

But then the issue is to define "old". Five years? Ten years? More? A movie can be considered an old movie when it moves from the bigger theatres to the $2 cheap seats theatres. Or when it goes to video. Because it's not new anymore, thus it's old. And yes, I'm just arguing for arguements sake, because I really think it's all a matter of perspective, and what one person may consider classic, someone else will call a fad, and so on. Intresting thing to note, though, Disney declares their animated movies classics straight out of the gate, which I find amusing.

I like old Poitier films like. Guess Who's Comming to Dinner, Heat of The Night, even To Sir With Love. One hell of an actor and Guess Who's Comming to Dinner had Spencer Tracy and Katherine Hepburn all the actors in that movie were top shelf.

Freedom.....have you seen "A Patch of Blue" w/ Sidney Poitier and Shelly Winters? Outstanding movie. Apparently when it was released, it drew a bigger box office return than "Gone with the Wind."
I'm a huge Poitier fan as well. Have you read his autobiography "The Measure of a Man"?
My vote goes for A Patch of Blue or Indiscreet w/ Bergman and Cary Grant. Oh there are too many to list! http://discussanything.com/Ubb/smile.gif

Man...I have tried to watch that movie on several occasions....I'm sorry, but that has got to be the most excruciating thing to watch that I have ever seen (out side of "Eyes Wide Shut"). The Marx Brothers - "Monkey Business", "Duck Soup", "Night at the Opera". take your pick.

Alfred Hitchcock - "The 39 Steps", "Rear Window"

John Huston - "Treasure of Sierra Madre" - Bogart

Fritz Lang - "M" - with Peter Lorre in an amazing performance.

One more ... I just saw Fritz Lang's "Metropolis" (a silent film) on a large screen accompanied by a live theatre pipe organ. That movie is a surreal mind-****.

It was kind of a joke, but I still think it is a classic. I dont really think that you can get away with calling them morons either. They are responsible for numorous military break throughs.

Sorry, there is not doubt they were indeed morons, cannon fodder, and brainwashed. Certainly some scientists were interned to engineer, research and develop high technology. But the vast majority were Hitler's tools who observed an occultist, pink, regime that was just as evil as the Leon Trotsky's Marxist Bolsheviks, Joseph Stalin's and Nikita Khrushchev's Russian Communists, Ho Chi Minh's, Pol Pot's, and Mao Tse-Tung's communist regimes in south east Asia.

I dont see the similarity between Pol Pot's evil regime and Nazi Germany. Pol Pot was intent on killing the best of his own people. I know a guy that was in Cambodia during the time of Pol Pot and he said Nazi Germany would have been paradise compared to Cambodia. They lost one out of every three people. Hitler was the complete opposit, he encouraged everyone to strive to be their best.

Not to mention it is extremely insulting to label an entire nation of the people morons. Do you believe our fore fathers to be morons since they stood around while the Native Americans were removed from their homes to progress the emergence of the United States? You need to understand that you have been feed propaganda your entire life regarding World War two era Germany. It was vital for America to slander the Germans as much as possible to maintain public support for the war effort. Thus creating a false ,misguided image of Nazi era Germany. Not to mention the acceleration of this effect after the domination of media outlets by Jews which has has occured over the last fifty years. In fact I was watching a documentary on the Discovery channel about the Nazi's attempt to reintroduce pre-christian, Pagan history. The whole time the show talking about the glorious pagan history of Europe they felt the need to play creepy ,horror movie type music. Why? I'll tell you why, because they are trying to slant public opinion regarding the Nazis. And you my friend are a victim of such.

To call them "cannon fodder" is also insulting. Would you call the heroic men who died at Pearl Harbor cannon fodder?

I would suggest that you try and look at the entire picture instead of spouting rhetoric from your television. Also, it would be nice if you would take the the time to point out specific examples or reasons why you feel the way you do instead of lashing out with vauge insults. Thanks. http://discussanything.com/Ubb/cool.gif

Actually, "Triumph of the Will" is considered to be a great piece of documentary filmmaking, despite the subject matter. Leni Riefenstahl, was an acclaimed, award-winning director, handpicked by Hitler to document the Third Reich.

LOL! Some of my sources include my copy of The Rise and Fall of The Third Reich.

I use that term in reference to soldiers used intentially by their government for exploitation as pawns in games of conquest to satisfy the bloodlust of insane political leaders.

LOL!!! All I watch is hockey and wrestling you damn National Socialist German Workers' Party wannabe. http://discussanything.com/Ubb/wink.gif

Also, it would be nice if you would take the the time to point out specific examples or reasons why you feel the way you do instead of lashing out with vauge insults.

It is not a matter of feeling at all! It is the stating of documentated fact. Like our Afghan nemisis, Bin Laden, Hitler glorified war and world conquest and the absolute power of the authoritarian state. He believed he could create a master race for this purpose. At first most Germans laughed at him. His Nietzche-like philosophy began to take with the help of his secret police and his propaganda machine in place to control the press. He made the Germans into lemmings by extracting their wealth and labor in his Bin Laden-like plot to rule the world.

The Rise and Fall of The Third Reich by William Shirer is over 1,000 pages, but is an excellent book. A must for everyone, included neo-National Socialist German Workers' Party people. What you will find is that Hitler was a liar in almost everything he told the Germans. I call the Germans who sympathized with him morons because they couldn't see through his lies and meglamania. The German people ended up being cannon fodder as the Allies were forced to dispose of his source of power.

This is the tragic reality we are faced with today in the middle east. One megalmaniac has inspired enough Muslims to force us to hurt them primarily because they are ignorant of the truth.
