Powerboss 09-07-2001, 06:44 PM MTV=The death of music.

Corporate Avenger 09-07-2001, 07:32 PM I didn't even know it was on, I remember watching MTV back in the 80's. I don't watch that crap anymore, all it is is bad rap videos and stupid shows with a little backdoor boys thrown in..

ChaoticThoughts 09-08-2001, 03:56 AM not seen it, I may want to see the act britney spears did on stage, something with a lion and snake... Hope its better than the flesh colored stuff she was wearing last time. But nothing of musical value in it, thats for sure.
buggy 09-08-2001, 04:06 AM Holy crap. If that is the best of the year, I really hate to see what is the worst...
The Lady Marmalade video was horrible!
I dig Moby and Fat Boy Slim - kinda weird to see them in something MTVish.

"Ultimately all hominids came from Africa, and therefore everyone in America should simply check the box next to 'African-American.' My maternal grandmother was German and my maternal grandfather was Greek. The next time I fill out one of those forms I am going to check 'Other' and write in the truth about my racial and cultural heritage: 'African-Greek-German-American.' And proud of it."
-- Michael Shermer
Snouter 09-08-2001, 11:10 AM Yes it is disgusting and very sad. A handful of corporations control most of the music broadcast in this country. And they create a product for Americans children who don't know any better to consume. Just as tobacco ads target children, so does this new pop culture of low quality disco crap.
I saw that freak, wax-face, transvestite Mikey Jackson on CNBC ring the opening bell for the NASDAQ the day of the envent I think. One would think that the creep would have invited some youngster from the audience to have the thrill of ringing the bell. But what can we expect from a culture of celebrities who exist purely to promote themselves as something better than the average human.
ChaoticThoughts 09-09-2001, 04:28 AM imo humans are corporate cattle.
slacker79 09-09-2001, 05:07 PM I have to say that I love MTV. I did watch the awards show and by far, Missy Elliot had the best performance. Her set cost $250,000 and was the most costly of all. She came through the ceiling of the MET OPREA HOUSE and started singing. For the remix of her song "Getcha freak on" she has Nelly Frutado come out of this huge head structure and slide down the tounge. Then she performed her hit "Minute Man" with Ludachris. She rocks and her live performances are just as good as her videos and she actually sings not fakes it!
James 09-09-2001, 05:35 PM I'm no fan of MTV ... what began as revolutionary, evolved into another cog in the corporate music machine. ("but hey, we are SO hip!")
But I wouldn't dismiss music videos out of hand. You'd be surprised (or perhaps not) at the number of truly artistic pieces of filmmaking, that are the music videos of many underground bands ... that hardly anyone gets to see. (I won't use the term "alternative" any more, now that the term has been distorted and stripped of it's original meaning). I produced a "no-budget" music video show for over 10 years, and have screened, over a ga-jillion videos. When done well, they compliment the music, but stand on their own artistic merit. I have always felt that the form, provides a great outlet for underground filmmakers. Too bad their work is trapped in the same cage as the musicians.

I too used to watch MTV for the music videos, but now it is all boy bands and rap. wtf? no country? Can't say "country has it's own channel CMT" cause Rap does too. BET.
Anyways, after Beavis and Butthead left, I did too.
I hate flipping over too it and seing friggin "shows"!!!! show me some videos! Not TRL "I wanna here -insert boy band here- because I love them all and they rock!!! woooohoooohwwwwoooooooooo!!!!" lol
