Okay, not just your one favorite, but your favorites (it's hard to pick just one).
Van Halen's self-titled debut ranks at the top of my list (as of today) for several reasons, all which I could not explain and no one would care if I could.
Van Halen. Most of those songs are classics even today.
1. "Runnin' with the Devil"
2. "Eruption" (instrumental)
3. "You Really Got Me" (Ray Davies)
4. "Ain't Talkin' 'bout Love"
5. "I'm the One"
6. "Jamie's Cryin'"
7. "Atomic Punk"
8. "Feel Your Love Tonight"
9. "Little Dreamer"
10. "Ice Cream Man"
11. "On Fire"
Epic CD. Van Halen had a hell of a run after their debut. Van Halen II, Women and Children First, Fair Warning, Diver Down, and their best, which was their last with Roth, 1984. Exit Roth, crater Van Halen. Hagar just did not fit and their style of music reflects his input, unfortunately.
Appetite for Destruction (Guns N' Roses). It remains the best selling debut CD in history.
Boston.
Ten (Pearl Jam).
Who Cares (The Poor, 1994). Listen to it before forming an opinion. This is an in-your-face CD.
Airbourne's Runnin' Wild (2008 debut CD of that year according to Metal Hammer). Another in-your-face production.
Dreamboat Annie (Heart, 1974). Ranks high on my list for reasons important to me and because it is a superb CD.
Led Zeppelin (1969, the CD remains timeless).
Ted Nugent (1975, containing several excellent songs and Stranglehold, which is in my top-5 rock songs of all time and Nugent's signature song).
Outlaws (their 1975 debut).
Audioslave (it is a shame they disbanded/reverted back to Rage).
The Cars (1978, they were so different in a good way).
Dreamtime (The Cult).
Iron Maiden (1980). They still play Iron Maiden, Runnin' Free, and on occassion Remember Tomorrow in concert, all of which are on this debut.
I choose to quit for now.
"I'll be back." Can't wait, can you? :)

For me the best debut album ever is My Aim Is True by Elvis Costello.
Every song is excellent and musically, it was the perfect antidote to what the mainsteam of rock had (for the most part) devolved into.
But more than all of that ,I was 21 when that album came out (Costello is only two years my senior) ,my whole life was in a shitstorm (starting with my dad almost dying that year) and that album just perfectly fit everything I was going through at that time.
Costello called the album "songs about revenge and guilt", name me anyone who didn't feel that way about life at age 21?
Ok,I'm sure a few didn't/haven't ,but most did/do and I was no exception.

Indeed, as a species music (and doing the right thing) vs treatment of people (and being human I guess and destroying ourselves) we're a utter failure.
I watched 2001: A Space Odyssey last night and I'm going to the library for the Arthur C. Clarke novels next week as I'm told it's a must read.
I'm of the impression everyone on the planet should be made to watch this.

I saw Van Halen at the Texxas Jam. They only had one CD out. We went to see Nugent, Aerosmith, and several other bands, but we left talking about Van Halen. Indeed, we had not heard of them, nor had the people sitting close to us. "Who are they?" Then it was, "God, what a band. How the hell have I missed them? I'm getting their album asap." Roth may be an idiot, but his performance in front of 80,000 rockers that day was as good as any I've ever seen, and I've seen a ton.

The Who - My Generation
Steppenwolf - Steppenwolf
Nice calls. My Generation showed The Who had attitude from the beginning, and it was a welcome change from what had become boring.
The Pusher is a haunting, taboo-breaking (actually, exploding), song off of Steppenwolf's first and many people have never heard it.

Reminds me of Boston (the band). Boston exploded onto the scene. Their second was almost as good as their debut, and then they never recaptured what they’d done on the first two. I was in college and it seemed like everywhere we went someone had them on—which was mighty fine with me and my date.
Foreigner was also terrific with their debut. I have Can't Slow Down (2010). I wish I had my money back and Amazon had that CD.
Abba also debuted with style.
The Cars debut was different yet still very good.

I couldn't answer your questions without researching Wiki and Google. That is a very good trivia question.mmI just looked Axton up and learned he wrote songs I would have never guessed:
Among his best-known compositions (or co-writing credits) are:
"I'm a Good Ole Rebel"
"Greenback Dollar" covered by The Kingston Trio
"The Pusher", covered by Steppenwolf on their debut album in 1968
"No-No Song", which became a #3 hit for Ringo Starr in March 1975
"Never Been To Spain", covered by Three Dog Night, Waylon Jennings, and Elvis Presley
"Joy to the World", the Three Dog Night hit from April 1971 which held US #1 for six weeks
"Snowblind Friend" (1971), covered by Steppenwolf
"Lightning Bar Blues" (1973), covered by Brownsville Station and Arlo Guthrie (also a big hit for the Finnish band Hanoi Rocks in the '80s)
"Sweet Misery" (1974), covered by John Denver
"The Morning Is Here" (1974)
"Boney Fingers" (1974)
"Della and the Dealer" (1979) (Reached the top 20 of the Billboard Country charts in the USA and the top 50 of the British pop charts)
"Hotel Ritz" (1979)
"Rusty Ol' Halo" (1979)
"Hangnail In My Life" Snowblind Album (1977)
I learned something today. Mainly, how ignorant I am.

shoot... don't sell yerself short, KZ...
who'da ever thunk "The Pusher", "Joy To The World", and "Bony Fingers" were all written by the same guy...
The terms "eclectic" and "one of a kind" could well be used to describe Hoyt Axton...

Van Halen's debut remains my favorite (1978). Folks that like rock may not know the songs below by name by all but the last 2 got heavy playing time.
"Runnin' with the Devil"
"Eruption" (Instrumental)
"You Really Got Me"
"Ain't Talkin' 'bout Love"
"I'm the One"
"Jamie's Cryin'"
"Atomic Punk"
"Feel Your Love Tonight"
"Little Dreamer"
"Ice Cream Man"
"On Fire"
Hagar needs to figure out that it is over for him and his whining and moaning isn't gonna change that. He "had a great run." The hard truth is, is "run" with Van Halen is over. Time for him to try to act like he's at least 12-years old instead of 5-years old and stop whining. It's over, Sammy. Get used to it.
Boston's debut (1976).
Led Zeppelin's (1969).
Guns N Roses' Appetite for Destruction
The Cars debut (1978); they caught my attention because they were different.
Audioslave's debut; what a shame they did not stay together.
Alter Bridge's debut, One Day Remains (2004). To see them is to like them, or, it was for me.
Koritni's debut, titled Lady Luck (2007). Aussie's that (at least some) hail from the now not a band Green Dollar Colour.
Click that song and list to what rockers expect from HARD ROCK.

YES. THAT IS WHAT YOU CALL HARD ROCK.
THE EUROPEANS ARE SHAMING AMERICAN BANDS WHEN IT COMES TO NEW BANDS THAT PLAY HARD, HARD ROCK.
(1) Koritni I list above.
(2) The Answer hails from Northern Ireland. They have 2 CDs out and their debut was a dandy.
(3) Airbourne hails from Warrnambool (Aussies). They have 2 CDs out. Their debut won "BEST DEBUT" at the Metal Hammer Golden Gods Awards in 2008.
(4) 77 (strange name) from Barcelona has 2 CDs out. Their debut is a dandy. So is their second.
(5) I REALLY COULD go on, but by now, all of you are so bored with this post it wouldn't matter. Indeed, I'm bored with this post. Sadly for DAers, I will not be bored long. :D :D :D

Pixies - Surfer Rosa
Surfer Rosa had good tracks but wasn't a coherent album, IMO. I've not listened to any of Frank Black's solo stuff, so I'll have to give his debut a try at some point. Also on the wishlist is The Beatles' Please Please Me, George Harrison's All Things Must Pass, and Roy Harper's Sophisticated Beggar.
My list (in order of release year):
The Doors - The Doors (1967)
The Jimi Hendrix Experience - Are You Experienced (1967)
Led Zeppelin - Led Zeppelin (1969)
Nick Drake - Five Leaves Left (1969)
Joy Division - Unknown Pleasures (1979)
Adrian Borland & The Citizens - Alexandria (1989)
The National - The National (2001)
Having thought about it, though, I'm surprised by how un-stimulating a lot of debut albums from good artists there are. I'm not really interested in the earliest Sound, Pink Floyd, Neil Young or Santana records, and all of their later stuff was better, usually before it got worse again.

Archaix, I performed Good Times, Bad Times a week ago at an open mic on acoustic guitar! I actually remembered all the lyrics! Since it was in the same key, it kind of evolved after doing Voodoo Child...on acoustic guitar! Total improvisation combined with remembering what is the best there ever was!

Skid Row was a great band to see. Talk about knowing how to put on a show.
Skid Row skid row.
Yes, and for you and for me, from that debut, I Remember You, Youth Gone Wild, 18 and Life:

Their debut, released January 24, 1989.
We saw them years ago when my boys were getting started as young rockers. They had front row seats. One of them caught a drum stick the drummer threw to the crowd. The loved it.
Dad (me)? I sat well away from them so I'd not embarrass them.

Wasn't Opium Tool's debut?
While it's true that Opiate was Tool's debut release, I should have made clear that I was only counting full length albums, not EPs like Opiate or the Pixies' Come On Pilgrim (both of which are rather meh, IMHO). :p

Halestorm (a new band) released their debut CD in 2009. It's more than good. They've just released their 2nd. It's also more than good.

Green Day's debut didn't make much of a wave, yet I think it's very good.

I may have mentioned Audioslave's debut. It's a shame (imho) that the 3 members went back to Rage Against the Machine, and Audioslave is no more.
Songs off of their self-titled debut, 2002 was the year (I think that's the year).
"Cochise"
"Show Me How to Live"
"Gasoline"
"What You Are"
"Like a Stone"
"Set It Off"
"Shadow on the Sun"
"I Am the Highway"
"Exploder"
"Hypnotize"
"Bring Em Back Alive"
"Light My Way"
"Getaway Car"
"The Last Remaining Light"

Ted Nugent's self-titled debut, 1975, is a very good debut.
"Stranglehold"
"Stormtroopin'"
"Hey Baby"
"Just What the Doctor Ordered"
"Snakeskin Cowboys"
"Motor City Madhouse"
"Where Have You Been All My Life"
"You Make Me Feel Right at Home"
"Queen of the Forest"
Stranglehold is one of the great classic rock songs in history, im(very)ho.

Van Halen's first would be my choice (today) if I were forced to pick just one. 7 or 8 songs off of it are still fresh to me and as good as they were when they came out. We saw them in 1978 and they played every song on their first CD and stopped (they played very early at the first Texxas Jam; a warm-up act that garnered the attention of a slew of us). That's all they had. The next year was even better.
Their first 6 CDs had a different style. Hagar joined them after the 6th since Roth was fired or left or whatever. He had a very good voice, better than Roth's, but it seemed to me the band changed its style. They were not the raw, in-your-face, band any longer (and that's just my opinion). To me, Van Halen ceased to exist when Hagar joined them, and if Roth left on his own, he made a huge mistake. His solo "career" was a joke.
