Why is it that people who blare music tend to always be playing the same genres of music? How come I have never heard someone blaring Beethoven's 5th or the Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy? Or what about hearing the occasional Johnny Cash or Bryan Adams? As opposed to having to hear the same rap, jungle or techno...

I have come to the conclusion that in general people who predominantly listen to this genre of music are used to frequenting establishments that enjoy blaring this music which has led to the belief that this music cannot be enjoyed at normal decibel levels....

It's all annoying, IMO....

Well, maybe not the techno.....in small doses, anyhow..

As for the classical, do you notice tyhat business establishments & such that wish to keep loiterers away from saidf emporiums...play classical music over their speakers?

I'd be mebbe the only one on earth that said music would *attract*....not repel..:hmm:

I loved the old Circuit City commercial where a young punk with a boom box was blaring rap while sitting on a park bench. A nerdy guy in a suit sits down next to him with a bigger boox box and proceeds to blow him off the bench with opera.

The science behind the disco thump that is heard from cars is about insecure kids attempting to establish a territory.

As opposed to having to hear the same rap, jungle or techno... Most pop today is mastered in such a way that the levels are very close at all times. Classical music is handled differently; it could be blaring one second, than almost inaudible the next. This is true to a much larger extent in country music.

Just saying, there's a practical reason it wouldn't work... the dumb thumping is, I believe, more cultural than functional.

I blast 80s hair metal and MoTown.

But yeah, I agree. The bass thumping that can be heard from 4 or 5 car-lengths away is infuriating.

Agree, in fact I usually laugh a little at them. The little nuisances of life don't annoy me much anymore. I find them amusing.

part of me feels sorry for them as I perceive it at times as a call for attention heck even a mating call to attract ladies. It speaks volumes more than yelling at random people "this is the car I drive and this is what I listen to, care for a ride?"

Which brings me to another point I have yet to encounter a girl driving a motor vehicle or riding the subway who blares music. Not that I'm surprised and all..

I don't mind it if people blast music, as long as it's good music. Like Bon Jovi!

Bon Jovi really isn't that good. I mean, is your computer based on an Intel 386 DX 50 with a math coprocessor? If not, then your music taste is. I have a little RATT on a cassette to send you if you need some more good music to play on your, state of the art in 1988, stereo system.

I blare out of my stereo, Billie Holliday, Miles Davis, and alot of light listening indie music*

*please note, if for blaring, you would have to ask my neighbours. although i don't think i, indeed if my mother is playing her radio, sometimes, it's so noisy it interferes with mine

I've never thought about it but I don't blare music anymore. I used to; all the time, but not rap, disco or any other crappy music.

Maybe I'm just getting old or something.

I never thought of it as a show the feathers male peacock thing before but that is an interesting take.

You are correct, it's much rarer to see women blaring music in cars than men.

You need to drive with me a few times lol. But in my defense I have good reasons for blasting the tunes.

1.I have hearing loss in my left ear,( not related to loud music).

2. I usually have arguing kids in my car and the music drowns them out

3. loud music drowns out my awful singing.

4. I will blast just about any type of music.
