Before I begin, I will warn now that this will be an insanely long post. My orientation week started on Tuesday and I haven't had time to post about it until now, and lots has happened. I'll be skipping the parts where nothing of any dear import transpired, but those chunks only lead to other things, so...yeah.
TUESDAY:
Move in day. I got through the line of cars, pulled up to my dorm and started unloading my bags (four bags, one of which is a small hanging clothes bag, plus my backpack). Within moments my RA and a couple other guys had shown up and were helping me get all my bags up to my room. One trip is all it took with them helping me, it was amazing. The people here at Carnegie Mellon are so friendly it's almost scary. Almost. The freshmen class all gets these orange wristband thingies that identify us as incoming freshmen so that the upper classes don't get in on our free food. But I digress.
So, I throw my bags in my room, my roommate hasn't shown up yet, so I claim the lower bed that's on one side of the room (the other bed is at the level of an upper bunk bed but it has a dresser and a desk underneath it) and I head out to the gym for my orientation packet and things. On my way, having been on campus for no more than three minutes, I see a short redhead girl (natural redhead) with a bag I later learned wasn't hers behind her. I make momentary eye contact with her and try to maintain it as she and I pass each other. I get a second quick glance but nothing more.
*STUFF GOES HERE*
I get back to my dorm after ditching my parents for a few hours and when I get in I meet my roomie's father and uncle. He's out getting something fixed, and when he comes back it's pretty clear to me, who's spent many many years around gay people (if you are homophobic you can crawl into a hole and die, and the rest of this is of no consequence to you) that my roommate is gay. He's a voice performance major who wants to be an opera singer and he's a really fun, cool guy who's a great friend. Day goes on, nothing much of any importance happens the rest of the night other than the average welcoming stuff for college freshman. My bedsheets were in a trunk that wasn't delivered when it should've been so my roomie let me borrow his second set of sheets and we went to bed.
That's it for Tuesday, and I don't have enough time to do Wed. through today right now, so I'll set them as replies later on when I have the time. Right now I need to shower again beause it's muggy and humid and I feel like I could use it.
I'll be posting more as more things happen. Bye bye now.
