View Full Version : VOODOO 5
Betty 09-21-2001, 06:39 PM Anyone used one? I'm thinking about getting one since I love my Voodoo 3 so much. How do they stand next to the GeForce 3's.
Yes, I know Invidia bought out 3dfx.

u8nxprt 09-22-2001, 12:04 AM GeForce3 rules, Voodoo anything can't touch it.
See the following for video card bench marks and reviews:

i RUN A v5 5500, but im not into that hardcore of gaming, so I can't compare it to anything else.
But it is a sweet card. I LOVE the graphics in the games I do play.

Betty 09-22-2001, 10:37 AM Hmmm... after seeing those sights, it looks like the geforce3 is getting it's clock cleaned by the new line of ATI Radeons....

slayr420 09-22-2001, 12:00 PM Being an ATI fan, that feels so damn good. I wanted to get an ATI Radeon All-In-Wonder, but I'll save up another hundred for the Radeon 8500 DV (All in Wonder). Whups GF3's in any benchmark, plays DVDs, watches, pauses, and records live TV... AAAND does it clearly (unlike Riva TnT 2+ cards). Yeehaw.
How much does that retail for?

u8nxprt 09-22-2001, 03:45 PM I don't think I saw a quote for the ATI high end board. That was a preview, it's really new. The next card down, which is the one I think they can sell right now is ~ $199.

u8nxprt 09-22-2001, 04:00 PM ATI Radeon 8500 ~$399
ATI RAdeon 7500 ~$199

Troubadour 10-20-2001, 08:24 PM I think street prices are closer to:
Radeon 7500: ~150-170
Radeon 8500(with "hydravision," 7500 has this as well): 200-250
Radeon 8500DV (the all-in-wonder version):
~399
Although the latest anandtech review puts the 8500 at a little less performance than the Geforce3 http://discussanything.com/Ubb/frown.gif But I have faith and I'm getting the 8500 from Dell as soon as they get them in stock.

The voodoo5 is slower than the Geforce2 GTS (as well as the first generation of Radeons), although it tends to have prettier colors... but good luck getting new drivers. There's really no reason to get a V5 at this point in time unless it's like 25 bucks and you plan to keep using win2k/98 for the forseeable future.
Thing is, with a V5 5500 able to be had for like 85 bucks...not a bad move if you're keeping 98 or 2K for a while.

Troubadour 10-24-2001, 04:43 AM yeah, but you can get a radeon LE, which is slightly faster and just as pretty, for around 65, or you can get a GTS, which is much faster in gaming, for around 70.
