When I right click on anything there is a delay. Desktop, webpage, image, etc.

There is a 1-2 second delay and then the window comes up...

My system isn't the best, but it isn't THAT slow. PII400, 256 PC133 ram.

It never did this on 98. Also, it isn't the comp being slow, I don't think, cause when that happens MP3s/CDs dont' skip, and I can task to other programs fine.

Any ideas?

Um...mine does that too...I think it has to do with how the menus fade in...theres an option to turn that off somewhere...

No, it isn't the typical menu fade delay. I noticed, it is just in IE. On the desktop it is fine.

Like, there is a slit secdond fade delay, this is a 1-2 second delay.

Okay, this going from memory, and its from this guy I know who gpirates os's for me, so, honestly, I dunno its reliability...

Win2k is incredibly stable, but very slow. The reason for this is that it is designed as network software, for businness use.

On my C466, 64meg SDRAM, UI wouldn't even bother trying to run it, and I'd say it's the same for you.

It's not the computer actually chugging over loading the program/whatever, but it checking it will not crash etc, just running mini-virus scans etc.

In addition, the PC'll occasionally chug along really bad, as internal checks are carried out by Win2k on itself.

I'm currently running 98SE, also highly stable (except with IE6), but not a resource hog.

M.e. is unstable and a little..odd...in its setup.

That leaves XP, which I haven't tried or heard much about, but what I have is all good, except that it's a resource hog.

Well, im pretty sure it is not a speed issue. As I said, right clicking on the desktop, or word, or whatever, that is all fine. Just when I right click on the webpage portion of a browser.

But, I am not patched up all the way, so I will try that and see how it goes.

XP depends on the user. I said I hated it, but the more I used it, it grew on me. It has the stability of w2k (why wouldn't it, it IS w2k) with the drivers and plug and play of win95/98. Its basically w2k with a facelift and some bug fixes, which I am enjoying. You can turn off the fancy schmancy theme stuff, and it'll basically become w2k. The thing I like is that its going to be the next big boom, everybody will have it, which means that it'll get crazy driver support, unlike w2k did. So if you have programs or hardware that won't work in w2k, there is a very good chance it will work in xp. Plus, you can run compatibility modes. Although I'm running release 5.00.2600, its a little buggy. But if something refuses to work under xp/w2k, you can force it to run under 95, 98, or nt... it basically tricks the program, and getting what you want out of it.

Manu, that's pretty normal. You may notice a similar delay when you right click on the desktop and then center your mouse over the "new ->" option. The right click menus can be customized, so the compute is just looking for all the stuff it's supposed to display. I think.

As for win2k speed, my PII 266 is pretty fast in win2k, and it's very stable as well. I do have 192 megs of ram, though... win2k is a memory hog, but as long as you have 128 megs ram and over a 150 mhz processor you should be fine.

Ahh thanks.

Yeah, Win2K 'runs' fine. Just thought that was an oddity.
