Before I start, let me state, this is *NOT* a hoax.

I found this site the other night goofing off, and found out Boston was a city. I found the information the night before around 10pm, and drove up to beantown (about 45m from Providence) and stayed the night there. It said 6am, and we got there 5:45am. There were easily 4-5000 people there in line. They stopped taking entries at around 615-630, and I wasn't one of the lucky ones. They took the entries out, and drew 200 numbers out. The winners get a new Athlon XP, motherboard, and a heatsink/fan, valued at $290. Judging by the price, I figure 40 for the cooler, 100 for the mobo, and 150 for the chip, so chances are its an Athlon XP 1500+ (1.33ghz Palomino).

Look at the benchmarks, and their cheapest model is only a tad slower (in some its even faster) than Intel's most powerful Pentium 4 2ghz model.

At this time, they're adding 15 cities to the list, which are yet to be announced, but please keep checking the site to see if you're a lucky city.

I wasn't so lucky at Boston, which is home to computer nerd havens like MIT, Harvard, Tufts, BU, BC and the other universities in the surrounding areas of Providence, Worcester, and others. But my next stop is Philadelphia, which I hope is the 12th. I figure they won't say Seattle is the 11th until tonight around 8pm EST, which means that Philadelphia will be announced tomorrow night, the 11th, and will be the 12th at 6am. I'm driving there (5 hours from Providence, 3 from my home in CT) and taking the wife to spend the night in a tent (which WILL be rocking) on the sidewalks, hopefully getting my name in the drawing. I figure in Boston, they shut it down after about 30 minutes, and they could only have processed about a thousand, so you figure 200/1000 is a 1 in 5 chance of winning. Not bad, not bad at all.

Seattle, Philadelphia, Houston, and Chicago are the next listed cities. I would suggest getting there very early to ensure an entry, possibly 2-3 am. I talked to one kid who was turned down, and he was there since 4am.

Wish me luck.
