Asus accidentally revealed some important information in a P4 FAQ on its website. The 0.13 micron Northwood P4s will have a 512K L2. This effectively doubles the L2 cache from current P4 models, and could make a huge difference in performance, really giving the Pentium 4 what it needs most: performance which equals its MHz numbers. http://discussanything.com/Ubb/smile.gif The only downside I see is this will also increase the die size, making the chips more expensive. At 0.13 microns, and facing the potentially embarrassing situation of having Athlons clocked several hundred MHz slower besting their offerings, they may finally have found the breathing room to move to 512K. 0.13 micron Northwoods will initially be available at 2.0-2.4GHz and will be Intel's core of choice for faster clock speeds. Northwood is expected in Q4.
