Though IBM is sinking A LOT into research for the 'next' technology. Past just where we are now. Ultimately that is more important than who gets the 137gb HD out first... ------------------ Manu Narayan Oz 07-24-2001, 03:39 PM no doubt about that - wait until you start getting voice mail in your inbox oh and video too. Manu 07-25-2001, 01:50 AM Thanks Tam! http://www.maxtor.com/products/bigdrive/whitepaper.htm ------------------ Manu Narayan tam 07-25-2001, 04:48 AM Manu, I was gonna post here too, seriously. And yes, IBM has done some good research, but Maxtor has been the overall harddisk leader for the past few years. They've come with the most big developments lately, and make good, and affordable drives, unlike Big Blue... slayr420 07-25-2001, 07:25 PM Well, I dunno who to say is the leader. I love the IBM Deskstar series, they really are great drives that write incredibly fast. Looking back, I'm also surprised that Western Digital has dropped so far off the mark. I figure its a 3 team race, IBM, Maxtor, and Seagate. Seagate has the high end SCSI marketplace very well with their Barracuda and Cheetah drives, which leave Maxtor and IBM to duke it out for the desktop segment. I see IBM winning in the long run. Just because Maxtor can add another platter or something to break 137gb isn't no biggie. I think IBM has something up their sleeves which will just blow away Maxtor, who has traditionally made very noisy drives. Guitarophile 07-26-2001, 12:08 AM I just read the whitepaper. I'm impressed, but ... they'd better hurry up and develop faster modems if they expect me to download 144 petabytes of pr0n by 2004. ------------------ Seven stage denial to break the pieces further To whisper on the wind how you can't appease me further To color all your words with the stain of introspection To hope to realign the webs of fate we're spinning |
