I got some hermit crabs while I was at the beach; they are cool and neat to play with. I have a nice crabitat set up for them in a 10 gallon aquarium.


One of the crabs "Elvis" changed shells last night (I re did their Crabitat yesterday with some good sand and some other stuff)

That sounds awesome! I watched one crab do that at the Monterey Bay Aquarium once.

I'll try to get some pics. ..... Probably can't get one of them changing shells ... But I can get some pics of them. I have to sang a digital Camera ... I'll try to have some pics by next week.


I had some when I was a kid but they died...... I was reading and found out that chlorine (in my city water) will slowly kill them.... they have modified gills that they breath with, so high humidity, no metal, and no chlorine is good for them. So my crabitat has no metal and I have a heater and a natural sponge to help with the humidity (I have a humidity monitor thingy too), and I dechlorinate all the water that they come in contact with.

Hopefully they live for a long time, I like them.

Thats neat the Old lady down the street use to have them when i was a lil kid, there one of the only animals that you acutally have fun looking at when they dont really even move all that much! How did it change shells ?? did you have one in there for him or something?

Yup, you always want to keep some extra slightly larger shells in there for them.

.... They move alot at night (and after you give them a bath) .... they are faster than they look :)

so, the next day after I posted about my crab going into his new shell ... he put the old one back on.


But now he's in the new shell again ..... crazy crab! :)

My Girl's crab (I bought her one too) changed into my crabs old shell. .... I may have to go get some more shells for theese guys, seems they like to change shells.
