If you're asking about studying and preparing, start now, the material doesn't usually change that much from test to test, and once you have the basics down all you have to really study is what's different between the two versions. If you're talking about taking the actual exam, definetly wait. If you're halfway through when they retire it, you have to start from scratch. I remember something about them allowing you to carry it over if you'd taken so many of the tests when Windows 2000 came out, but I'm not certain, it's been a while, so it's probably best to play it safe and take the extra time to study and make sure you're familliar with the material.

Okay, guys, time to pick the brains of the MSCE gang. I started the ball rolling on getting my CompTIA A+ cert. I was also going to start the MSCE, but, the guy I talked to about it said to hold off until Window XP comes out. His reasoning was the current tests are to be retired after August and there is no way I can get in all 4 core exams by then. Does this make sense? Is it true?

Any suggestions would be appreciated!!!

Mav, then again bro, the corporate environment won't switch to Windows XP immediatley. There are LOTS of people that are JUST implementing their Windows2000 switch.

And Nomi said, the material, as far as the networking 'theory' etc goes is mostly the same. If you by any conveicable means can get it in now, get it now.

Cause, AFTERWARDS to get XP certified I BELIEVE you don't need to take all of them, just two 'update' tests. Microsofts site has lots of information check it out. Also try talking to GroverDill on StangNet, he got his around the NT 4 - Windows switch.

To be honest, I got my MCSE in 1996 and I never looked back. I dont keep up with MS latest OSes either. I just do NT4 and do it well. I do think the market is getting saturated with MCSEs though

The market is pretyt heavy, but the need for these people keeps on growing. And the fact is, it doens't even 100% matter WHAT year learn, but that you HAVE it.

Found some info. Microshaft's web says that the are going to allow certification with a combo of passed exams, but, will not have the requirement until a later date...

Think I'm just gonna see how fast I can get 2000 under my cap...
