OK.
Its been a while since Ive done this but that is the goal.

I want to take some selcted songs from various CD's and also some downloaded songs I've gotten from Napster et all.

How do I get them on to a CD?

But first, dont I have to convert them to wave files?
If so, how?

And how do I get songs from CD's onto my hard-drive, and are they already wave files?

I have a HP cdrw if that matters.

I would appreciate a beginning to end tutorial.

Thanks.

Well, it all depends on where you want to play the cds. If you are going to use them for the pc, I suggest converting them all to mp3s. They are very compact. I play most my music on my pc, but also have a portable cd player that can read mp3s.

But if you want general cds, that can be played anywhere, thats different.

First- you get the music you want. Mp3s from napster, and wav or simular files from your cds. I would collect them in one group of folders, naming and organize them how you want them on the disks.

You will want them all in one format, and there are programs that convert the music files from one to the other. Its hard to find free ones. I use music jukebox for converting. I think you can download a trial for free... I can give you a code for a full version if you want. I know it can covert to mp3...not sure about vise versa.

Im not sure what burning program your cdrw came with, but most have the option to select files from your machine, and burn them onto the disk. Find your folder, and select the files you want. There is a limit to the disk...depending on size- you can get 10 to 20 wav files, or 100 to 200 mp3s on a disc. I would use normal cd-r cds, because they are cheaper, and these discs dont need to be modified.

Im not sure what else to add, but thats the basic plan.

I use winamp to convert to .wav. I have some nice instructions typed out at home in an email. I will hunt them down and post for you..

basically, youjust cahnge the output format of winamp, then, instead of "playing" the song, it goes thru the song reallllly fast and copies them to a .wav file

Bill-

What CD burning program you have?

Newer versions of CD Creator (from Roxio or Adaptec) and newer Versions of NERO do not require you to convert them to wav, as the program will do that for you.

What kraw said is neccessay to extract files from a CD to burn onto a CDR Audio disc.
