View Full Version : 7/22/02 The interviews week
Yes, I've been job-hunting. And I finally have some interviews scheduled for this week. One is for a youth counseler position, working with emotionally disturbed kids.... and the other one is a childcare position, also for troubled kids. I also have some leads for some nanny jobs, but unlike in LA or San Francisco, there aren't as many nanny jobs out here in the boonies. In fact, there isn't much of anything out here in the boonies -- I'm going to have to drive a good distance for just about any job. *sigh*
Anyway, job-hunting is not fun (is anyone with me on that?), but hopefully one of these will pan out.
Your prayers/good luck wishes would be much appreciated! :)
igofast 07-22-2002, 05:11 PM Job hunting is not just 'not fun' it sucks hard. Best of luck to ya, hope you get the one that's best for you.
Why emotionally disturbed kids? My dad used to work at a home with emotionally disturbed kids and he had to learn to defend himself from attacks pretty quickly. You trained for that? Have a heart for them? Just curious.
thanks igo!
I was actually just looking for nanny jobs -- I have the experience, it pays well (cash) and it can be a fun job. But I came across these other jobs, so I thought I'd apply. I had a job in LA working with an autistic girl. She was 20, but like a child (she still played with Barbies, etc) You're right about the possibility for attacks - but I never had that problem with Erica. I did see her hit her mom once, and her personal trainer... (she didn't want to work out :D). I get along with kids pretty well, so that's why I'm applying for these jobs. I don't want an office job.
Banky 07-22-2002, 10:20 PM I have nothing but praise for someone who can handle troubled youngsters. Them and the elderly, like the depth of caring the women show my Dad in the home, I could never do it voluntarily.
Good luck on your job! I have an interview tomorrow, too. I might finally get back into Engineering again, it has been a year since I have had a full time permanent Engineering job. This one is similar to what I did at Kaman where I tested helicopters, only it will be at UTC testing materials using higher tech equipment to perform the testing.
I think you have the right temperment and the right attitude to do well in either one you choose! Plus I think you just like kids!:)
Well thank you Banky. :) I just want to find a good job that will work with my school schedule when I go back FT in the fall. Good luck on your interview too!
Miss Misery 07-22-2002, 11:28 PM Good luck with the job hunting. I must concur with the sucking of the job hunting, but I'm not exactly all that motivated to get one to begin with... maybe thats why no one will hire me for anything. Ah well, but once again... good luck : )
The Frog 07-22-2002, 11:53 PM To be a propper nanny, you will need an umbrella that has a parrot-head handle and can be used to fly. You will need a carpet bag that is bottomless and thereby capable of carrying a room full of things like standing lamps and hatracks. You'll need to know how to pop into chalk drawings on the pavement, how to make medicine taste at least 3 different flavours, and how to Step In Time.

I'm with you on that! Thanks for wishing me luck MM. :D

super-cali-fragilistic-espi-alidocious... (that tune suddenly came to mind) :D
The Frog 07-24-2002, 11:55 AM Hey Buttercup, we could use a nanny for a few days a week over the next couple of years. Wanna move to TX?
Wow, I wish you guys lived over here, Frog... because that sounds ideal for me (while going to school)! I can't move though. :p Besides, I love California - (I'm a native Californian) I've been everywhere, and this is still the place I want to be!
Thank you, though. :D
The Frog 07-24-2002, 04:09 PM Dang it. There goes my brilliant idea for my wife and I to go out now and then…
Oh well. It was worth a try.
The Frog 10-01-2002, 11:26 PM You sure you don't want that Nanny job?
He's awfully cute (http://www.geocities.com/luinnar/) and we have three cats to play with...
Frog!! Why don't you live in California?!! ;)
I would definitely take the job! :D
Your son is awfully cute. Looks like you have a wonderful family. :)
and 3 kitties!
soylentgreen 10-02-2002, 01:37 PM Hey kid!
I always look at an interview as a chance to sell myself...as an opportunity. As corny as that sounds.
I think attitude is everything. There is no way an interviewer can find out everything about you in an hour or two. If they called you in, then you already look like somebody they're interested in by your application and/or resume. So, think of it as a "get to know you" thing.
When I interview candidates for hire at my company, I'm mainly looking for enthusiasm, ability to speak and translate their thoughts into a logical pattern, that kind of thing. The other thing I look for is personality and temperment. I ask myself "Is this someone I can work with on a day to day basis?".
The other method I've employed is "She's got better legs than the other candidates!" Just joking...
Anywho, good luck. Send me a PM or an email sometime. M'kay?
sg!!
Wow, I haven't seen you around in ages! Its good to see you! :)
Yep, that's good advice. Thank you. btw, the job leads that I had when I posted this thread I decided against, mainly because they were way too far away. I live out in the boonies, and there's not much nearby here. I'm still hoping to find a nanny job, maybe in Rancho Murieta which is only 10 miles away.
lol@ the 'legs' comment. :D
talk to you later!
