Guys going to this show, or with me, or whatever, we've been blessed by the weather gods. :-)
Triquetra 07-11-2002, 02:11 AM Manu,
if I lived anywhere near Ventura, I would go. Alas, I do not. Plus, gotta save the cash for school. It's a drag, but it will be worth it (at least that's what I tell myself).
Scott 07-11-2002, 04:28 AM money is an issue for me too....
bummer...
and i have to pay for school NOW for next semester....
lucky for me it's only about 200....(a huge benefit for going to a Community College)
Triquetra 07-12-2002, 03:16 AM Ahh. I remember my comm. college days. It was wonderful. I had my tuition waived.
Now I go to a private college. Comes out to about 20,000/year. Looks like I'll be selling myself. KIDDING. Scholarships and loans my brother.
200 isn't bad. Wait, don't you go to a comm. college in CA? How many units are you taking??? It's only $11 per unit.
Ack. Private schools make me naseous. (but maybe they could teach me how to spell :D ) UCLAs tutition is 4500/yr, which is very doable.
Warped tour is great because of how much it costs...25 bucks in the end, which isn't too bad for 8 hours of music.
And with that...here goes my Warped Tour account...
10AM: I woke up. I have a midterm at 11:30, Warped Tour 'opens' at 12:00, and I live 61 miles away from the Venue.
11:30: Midterm Stards
11:45: Midterm is handed in (it was 30 questions, multiple choice, think I did well)
12:00: I am on the road with my roommate. Traffic on the N405 is a bit thick, but I am able to go 70ish with my weaving.
12:20: N101 is blocked up. We're going about 40
1:00: Make it to Thousand Oaks area. Stop for a quick togo lunch and gas.
2:30: Finally make it to Ventura, exit California street. What could have been an hours drive ended up taking about 2:15. Argh.
The day had its ups and downs...
When we got to Seaside Park in Ventura we were saddened to find that parking at the venue was full. (This, to me was indicative of a show I would be upset about) After circling for 15ish minutes and finding one small (but full) public parking place and no street parking, I decide to find a big 'shopping center' lot and park in there. Ironically, it is the same place where my friends had ended up parking.
3:00 I get in the gates, we find my friends and are able to catch half of midtowns set. They are a pretty decent band, they sound a lot like a mix between pop punk and nerd rock.
3:30: MXPX Takes the stage. Good show, too many people and not enough time to get in close. The sound was a bit messed up, but you can't go wrong with Punk Rock Show.
4:30: Flogging Molly takes the stage. This was by far the show of the night. The energy, sound, the peoples energy, how close we were to the stage, and the music was just excellent. They put on a great show and entertain 100%.
There were assorted bands that played throughout, but the show ended with NoFx and Bad Religion.
NoFx was great. They have a hilarious song, Idiot Son of an *******, which is a tribute to GWB.
Bad religion was great too. The sound was a bit messed up still, but they put on a good show.
Overall, the show was good, but not as good as it has been in past years. The weather was perfect though, which was nice.
The night of Warpedness ended with two events. Our cars were almost towed and we almost say a kid get hit by a train.
Those are stories that belong in another forum though, so check someplace else :P
igofast 07-15-2002, 01:12 PM I will not go to the warped tour unless 1) I can go for free or 2) My band is playing. I hate that f-in tour. I've only been in San Francisco, and I've heard the ventura one is better, but every year I've gone, I've said, "oh, this year will be better, it will be worth it." And every year I go home thinking I should have saved the $50.

Thats why I felt when I went 4 years ago to the show at the Orange County Fairgrounds.
Waste of gas, waste of money, waste of a day.
The past two years at Ventura (this year not included) it has been well worth it.

There are some bands I dont' really care about but they were fun seeing nonetheless.
But, for next year, unless the ticket is AWESOME I probably won't go, mostly cause there were far too many people.
