Saison 11-21-2008, 07:36 AM I've heard a lot of good things about Immort Ale. I can't get it here. I've tried. I can get some of their stuff but only a small selection.
I did some web searching for a clone recipe. it seems feasible. We'll see what happens.

creative beer naming is half the fun. :p
Saison 11-23-2008, 12:59 PM This month's issue of Brew Your Own has SIX Stone Brewing Company clone recipes: Stone Pale Ale, Stone IPA, Stone Ruination IPA, Stone Smoked Porter, Stone Russian Imperial Stout and Stone Bitter Chocolate Oatmeal Stout (12th anniversary beer). PM me if you want any of them.
I think we're going to attempt the IPA recipe. Woo!

I'm going to be very disappointed if I don't get a hombrew starter kit for Christmas.
Baboon 11-26-2008, 07:16 AM Speaking of beer, I had a drain pour last night. A 22oz'er, too. :( It was the Stone Coast 840 Imperial IPA. It was awful. :(

must've been pretty bad. :(
Baboon 11-26-2008, 10:07 AM must've been pretty bad. :(
I was reading on beeradvocate this morning that it's been retired. I'm guessing maybe I just had an old, skunky bottle? Those DIPA's need to be consumed when they are fresh.

What was wrong with it?

Ironically DIPA's are one of the most shelf-friendly beers due to the higher alcohol content and extra hops. Bummer. Sometimes it can be just a bad batch or too much heat.

Hard to explain, but it just didn't have the nice strong hoppy taste. It almost tasted soapy, though I know that's not the word I'm looking for. Real heavy on the pine and had no balance to it. To be honest, I thought something was wrong just from the pour. It was much too dark and cloudy for a DIPA...more of a light shade of brown than a dark orange, kind of like a mud puddle. As with the taste, the aroma wasn't very nice either. That was the first DIPA I've ever tried that made me turn my nose up.

soapy can be a flaw but also a hop characteristic. My least favorite bittering hop has a soapy flavor to it. it sounds like it was just a bad batch.

I've never tasted a soapy beer before. I'm not sure soapy is the right word, but that's what came to mind with the first sip. And yes, my glass was clean. :D
I'm glad it only cost $5.49.

I've had experience with quite a few spoiled beers, unfortunately. I'm actually a pretty good beer judge. If time weren't an issue, I would totally get certified.
Evil Elmo 11-27-2008, 03:39 AM Delirium Tremens
srsly. this is a new favorite in the high alcohol category. Generally, I don't expect a beer with an 8.5% abv to have a warming effect. I find that the alcohol is usually masked behind all of the other flavors and you don't notice it. In Delirium Tremens it stands out in the open. Very warm going down. You can even feel the warmth in your stomach. pours a hazy gold/yellow with lots and lots of champagne-like bubbles. Thick fluffy 2 finger white head that lingers and very nice lacing. Taste is Sour but sweet at the same time with some hoppy bitterness that really complements the alcohol and sour and just makes the whole experience .
Baboon should totally pick some up. :nice:
Saison 11-27-2008, 07:17 PM wait til you have the nocturnum and noel. :nice:
Evil Elmo 11-28-2008, 05:31 PM Shared a 750ml of Double Dead Guy with Betty today.
Poured a dark copper color with about 1 inch head that mostly disappeared within a few minutes. What remained left heavy lacing on the glass. Pretty good amount of flavor from the hops. Spicy and dry with a long lingering finish. Kinda made me hungry for a Rosemary Pork Loin Roast. :|
Baboon 11-30-2008, 03:57 PM I found the Double Dead Guy to be real malty...good, but malty.
Last night I went to dinner at a brewery (really good BTW) and ordered up a growler to go. I got the bill and the growler was $29.25. I was all WTFLOLOMFG! The BEER was a double Belgian IPA. It is indeed GOOD. $30 good? I don't know. But now it's 4:00 on a Sunday and I am three sheets. Mmmm....beer.....
Baboon 11-30-2008, 07:50 PM I am REALLY drunk right now. For real. I'm just sayin.
Evil Elmo 11-30-2008, 08:46 PM Betty has flown back to Vegas. We went through $45-50 worth of beer while he was here. Before he rags on me here. I did drink ONE of the bottles of Jack Daniel's Downhome Punch that they brought. twas delicious......like Hawaiian Punch. I say this because I know what he would post and that it would be lies and I have to get it out before he can. but it was 1 12 ounce bottle and I cleansed my soul with North Coast Brother Thelonious. and before that I had drank a lot of other stuff so it was highly diluted with quality drank. :|

Why yes...yes it would have been.
Man am I tired this morning. I've got a bad case of the hangover mouth, too.
Saison 12-01-2008, 10:22 AM I partied a little too hard on Saturday, and as a result was a total lump yesterday. :p
Baboon 12-04-2008, 05:26 PM I got carded today. Holy jesus cock nipples, I'm 36 years old!
Evil Elmo 12-04-2008, 09:10 PM I'm giving myself a project. I hate programming but I love beer and my shitty short term memory makes it hard for me to remember the beers that i have had and what i thought about them and details about them. So i am going to make an access database, with a Visual BASIC frontend to store all of my beers and tasting notes and specifics like ABV, IBU, etc. if anybody is interested, I will send it to you when and if I finish it.
Baboon 12-05-2008, 02:40 PM The wife unit bought me the Chimay holiday gift pack yesterday: A bottle of each with a Chimay glass. HOORAY WIFE! HOORAY BEER! I will make her a pizza tonight.
Saison 12-05-2008, 06:00 PM Chimay makes me happy. :nice:
Baboon 12-09-2008, 08:58 AM Lagunitas' IPA could use some work.
Saison 12-09-2008, 11:08 AM I could really go for a bell's three hearted ale right about now. :hmm:
Evil Elmo 12-10-2008, 12:38 PM Ok, I am drinking the Quadrupel that Saison got me. Weyerbacher Blasphemy. omfg this shit is good. Tastes like beer whiskey. :| Decent head but not a lot of lacing.
to give an idea just imagine taking your favorite dubel and throwing in a couple shots of Wild Turkey Kentucky Bourbon and some vanilla.

Baboon 12-17-2008, 02:21 PM My wife is going to a "friend's" house tonight (so she says), so I will be stopping on my way home from work tonight to pick up a liquid dinner. I'm not sure what I'm in the mood for.
Evil Elmo 12-17-2008, 02:23 PM I don't see you commenting much on Belgian styles. Go for some belgian strong ales and dubbels and tripels etc. :nice:

Dreamintree01 12-23-2008, 08:01 PM I am going to Bullfrog Brewery a day or two after Christmas to have a mini reunion with friends. I shall be partaking in a sampler. Cannot wait to see what they have. Their oatmeal stout is always delish, especially on a cold winter night like this one. :nice:
Evil Elmo 12-24-2008, 11:43 PM I am currently working on getting my hands on some Surly Darkness http://www.ratebeer.com/Brewers/Beer/Beer-Reviews-65289.htm
ThePrankMonkey 12-25-2008, 01:51 AM since it is now christmas i shall enjoy a bottle of peach lambic. i could have bought a 6 pack for what that ****er cost me so it better be good.

its ok we wont judge you or make fun you...very much...in front of you.
Evil Elmo 12-25-2008, 07:19 PM :slap:
ThePrankMonkey 12-25-2008, 09:50 PM so this lindeman peach lambic...
wow
wow
this stuff is fantastic. i pop the cap and pull the cork slowly and im greeted with a slight hiss...and then i smell it. it smells like a beer alright. so i pour it into a glass (i simply do not have a glass good enough for a lambic so i use a straight glass). it still smells like a beer but with a hint of something i cant nail down. the peach is there but very subtle. sour. it has a slightly sour smell, i was expecting this and was pleased it was slight. it smells really nice and light in general.
the taste...HOLY ****ING SHIT THIS IS NOT BEER! its like a slight fruit flavored champagne. no hops that i can tell but the labels lists hops as being in this beer. very sweet, maybe a bit too sweet, i was expecting a drier fruit style beer. a hint of tart/sour to it, just a smidge. its good and helps balance the sweetness but could be a bit more assertive. mouthfeel is good, fizzy with a slight tongue burn, very slight. doesnt seem watery, im wondering if there are sugars adding some viscosity to the beer. finish is good, makes you want another sip and another and another. alcohol is hiding like a ninja and doesnt hit you till you finish the glass. i could not taste any alcohol in this beer.
its an excellent beer and i'll have to try their other lambics including their gueuze.
i would say it was worth every penny and maybe a bit more. definitely a dessert beer, im sure it would be great with cheesecake, creme brulee would not be out of the question i think.
Saison 12-26-2008, 08:44 AM in a pinch, i use wine glasses for stuff like lambics and barleywines. anything that needs to be sipped and savored, basically. :)
Evil Elmo 12-26-2008, 05:31 PM Same here.
Saison 12-28-2008, 06:41 PM guess who bought herself a case of delirium tremens... :D

Hammerknocker 12-28-2008, 07:51 PM Winter seasonals are in my fridge right now. The best of them include:
Highlands Brewing (NC) Cold Mountain Winter Ale...tastes like Christmas.
Anderson Valley (CA) Winter Solstice Seasonal Ale...silky smooth winter ale.
Sweetwater Brewing (GA) Festive Ale... Christmas spices, smooth and tasty.
Winter has the best seasonals...keeps you warm on those frigid nights! ENJOY! :D

Saison 12-29-2008, 09:56 AM I want a Delirium Tremens tulip glass.
http://www.crackedkettle.com/store/images/Delirium_Tremens_Glass.jpg
I have one. :)
Baboon 12-30-2008, 12:14 PM I have one. :)
I read on those internets (so it must be true) that the Tremens tulip glass is the most stolen beer glass from bars in America.
I worked a long day yesterday and therefore did not get to drink any beer. I was in work at 6:00 AM and got home at 10:00 PM and went right to bed. Tonight I will make up for it.
For Christmas, my three year old niece got me a Duvel gift set: The tulip glass with four 330ml bottles of Duvel. Goddamn does a Duvel look nice sitting in a tulip glass. My four year old nephew got me an Ommegang gift set. It has three 750ml bottles: Chocolate Indulgence, Hennepin, Three Philosophers, plus a flute glass. Wife and I shared the Chocolate Indulgence this past Sunday. Not as sweet as American chocolate beers, and I am guessing it's because of the Belgian chocolate that is used (it's more bitter and not as sweet and American chocolates). In any case, I am amazed that my niece and nephew were able to walk into a liquor store and buy such gifts, seeing how they are so young. The store clerk must have been blind.
Baboon 12-31-2008, 10:54 AM NEW YEAR'S EVE BEER.
I have that 750ml bottle of Hennepin that won't make it past 6:00. I also have some DFH60, two bottles of Duvel, some Harpoon IPA, assorted Sam Adams, those two McNeill's bombers that I mentioned a few posts back, a Berkshire Brewing Company 22oz imperial stout, and a few other random bottles. I will no doubt be stopping on the way home tonight to buy some other stuff because you just never know what you'll be in the mood for.
So, whatcha got for tonight?
Baboon 12-31-2008, 11:26 AM This thread sucks.

I'm not surprised. it's an awesome glass. I'm a big fan of Ommegang beers. I could go for a 3 philosophers right now. :hmm:

We've got some Tremens lined up, plus Dave picked up the Weyerbacher big beer case so I imagine there's some good stuff in there. Also, we're still working on that quad so yeah, it should be a good night. :p
Evil Elmo 12-31-2008, 01:29 PM well post something in this thread, you cock robber!
I have no bier :(
Maybe I can make it to Bevmo before work. then I'll post some tastings while Betty is here.
Dreamintree01 12-31-2008, 02:53 PM I'm gonna get myself some more coffee cream stout tonight.
ThePrankMonkey 01-01-2009, 01:41 AM on top of getting drunk on 95% of a bottle of korbel ive decided to have my cherry lambic, by the same people who made the peach lambic i had last week.
the taste is really good. its tart first off. i was expecting sweet like the peach but i was wrong. its tart but good, the tartness comes from the skin. it almost has that kind of tartness you get from an apple peel. i also taste a hint of wood, like oak. the finish is very dry IMO. a hint of sour, just a smidgen of a hint but its there and its good.
the nose is cherries with a hint of malt in there, its really good but smells nothing like a beer honestly.
the color of this is dark red, like a red wine. i cant see through it. carbonation is good but not as much as the peach. this is a sipping lambic IMO and like the peach lambic would be good with dessert, cheese cake OR chocolate cake for sure, possibly dark chocolate.
i poured this into a champagne flute. its really good and completely different from the peach lambic. i look forward to trying the raspberry apple and black currant lambics they have along with the gueuze.
i also picked up a 6er of leinenkugel's sunset wheat. i like the blueberry note it has in the smell and taste but tastes more like a lager since they use a lager yeast to ferment this brew.
i MAY try the bar harbor blueberry ale since i like blueberry or the bell's cherry stout since i love cherries and i have been looking forward to trying a stout out.
BTW like the peach lambic, the alcohol hides like a ninja, i cannot taste it. good stuff!
Evil Elmo 01-05-2009, 12:40 PM Well, Betty is back at home now. While he was here we went to bevmo and found something we couldn't pass up.....He'Brew: the Chosen Beer. We got a couple of each kind that they had there. We got their Origin Pomegranate Ale, Bittersweet Lenny's RIPA, and last but not least, Rejewvenator. I'm still going through them to see what I like best. Will Post more later.
Baboon 01-05-2009, 12:41 PM Those He'Brew beers are good stuff!
Saison 01-05-2009, 01:04 PM we went to Dogfish over the weekend. they had fort and world wide stout on tap. food was better than it has been last few times we were there. the rest of the evening is a bit of a blur...
Evil Elmo 01-05-2009, 01:45 PM I have to say, if you like your beers a bit on the sour side, the rejewvenator is pretty freakin awesome.
Evil Elmo 01-05-2009, 02:44 PM ok, so I killed off a couple jews this morning and I have made up my mind. The best is Bittersweet Lenny's RIPA and the Rejewvenator (the two tied IMHO) the Origin was Okay. I wasn't nearly as impressed by the origin as I was the rejewvenator and the RIPA.
Betty 01-05-2009, 03:02 PM Dammit. I shoulda tried the rejewvenator before I left.
The Lenny's RIPA was great.
Dude, you still gotta post pictures.
Evil Elmo 01-05-2009, 05:21 PM I have 3 bottles left. I'll post pics.
Baboon 01-08-2009, 05:58 PM So I was in Beer*Mart today and on the shopping list was a Duvel four pack. So I go to the Belgium section, and there is the Duvel four pack for $14.99. Sitting right next to it is the Duvel gift set for $15.99, which is the four pack plus a Duvel tulip glass. WTF? $1 more for the tulip glass?
MINE.
I also picked up a Delirium Nocturnum, which I have yet to try.
I like beer.
Evil Elmo 01-08-2009, 05:59 PM Try the Delirium Tremens.
Baboon 01-08-2009, 06:08 PM I have had the Tremens before and was trying to decide between the two. I went with the one I haven't tried before.
I will have two bottles of Tremens for the Super Bowl. I promised my wife's friend I'd have a bottle for her that day if she comes over.
