One or both parties could have brokered conventions this year, here's how:
First,if Mc Cain gets the nomination look for him to make Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison his Vice-President.
He'd do it because she does appeal to the type of conservative who hates Mc Cain, she's from a big state he'd have a hard time getting and she's a woman.
If the new sex scandal [not to mention the Savings And Loan scandal] causes Republicans not to vote for Mc Cain in the upcoming primaries,he would not have enough delegates for first ballot nomination and I could see the Republicans nominating Kay Bailey Hutchison for president instead.
As for the Democrats: It's possible that Clinton and Obama could wind up in a dead heat.
The Super Delegates would be afird to vote Obama because that would turn many Baby Boomers,Latinos and working class women who voted for Hillary against them.
They'd be afraid to vote for Clinton because that would turn many African-Americans and young people who voted for Obama against them.
Who then would be the perfect canidate that could unite the enitre party and win the November election?
Al Gore.

You know this post is one of the reasons I like fantasy Scifi. It could happen but probably won't. It will come down to Obama v McCain most probably but you are right it could well be a real old time convention. An outcome I think is totally great for the Dems. They hold the spotlight with a ton of free publicity on the evening news each night while the GOP has no one specific to run against except the press and the media is a lousy opponent. McCains fund raising would be challanged and if Obama was to win I think that the "gotta get Clinton" donors simply wouldnt dig deep.
What ever happens it certainly is the most entertaining process we have seen in years. It is good for the soul of your nation to go through this comparitively exciting process. It is especially sweet to realize it means the end of the Great Dummies run in the white house.

I think you are right it probably will be Mc Cain v. Obama, but that is not set in stone yet [especially on the Democratic side] and this could happen.
Another Democratic possibillity would be to compromise with a Clinton/Obama ticket, because I like Howard Dean and think he has done a great job as head of the DNC.
But Howard Dean has made one big mistake and that is Michigan and Florida,if he does not let those two key states be represented he could be giving them to Mc Cain.
I think Dean should hold cacuses in those states and let them decide the nominee.

I can't see Hillary accepting second place, and if she does what's necessary to be at the top of the ticket, she would likely split the party.

That would be a huge mistake. Those states are supposed to be punished by not letting their delegates be seated. To turn around and give them king-making powers would reward the very behavior that got them punished in the first place.

If Hillary doesn't make it to the WH, she has a fine career ahead of her in the senate. She'll be the next Teddy Kennedy for many years to come.

That is true. Vince Foster is like her Mary Jo Kopechne.

She shouldn't since she's been in the Senate more years [I was refering to the other way around].

You're saying that as a Republican who [for some weird reason I still can't understand:scratch:] takes the Clintons personally,as a actual Democrat I can tell you that you are defining both my party and it's people falsely.

The states did nothing wrong and their votes should be counted, that's how Democracy works.

Agreed.
It doesn't matter if she or Obama become president, they both have fine carrers ahead of them.

I don't think Senate seniority should determine POTUS vs VP. I just don't see her ego allowing her to take the VP position to someone to whom she lost.

1. There are plenty of political reasons to dislike the Clintons. It isn't personal. I would probably have a great time hanging with Bill, because he's very likable (unless you're a vulnerable woman, but we don't need to get into that).
2. If Hillary were to get to the convention trailing Obama in the popular vote, yet manage to wrest the nomination from him by using super delegates and delegates from states which they all agreed would not be used, she would get a huge backlash of animosity from a whole lot of democrats who would think they had been cheated. It would not be good for the party, at all.
The states did nothing wrong and their votes should be counted, that's how Democracy works.
1. This isn't about Democracy, this is about the internal workings of a political party.
2. The party set down the rules. If you hold your primary vote before a certain date, we will not seat your delegates, and the candidates agreed they would not campaign in those states. For Hillary to now try and change the rules to get those delegates counted flies in the face of fair play. It's much like Al Gore trying to change the rules and move the dates in Florida in 2000.
