Adi 02-13-2008, 01:40 AM Well I like Nikons. Personally have a 6mp Samsung one which is okay. Has stability control but not much. Has a very good screen and zoom. Photos are impressive with it but better cameras are out there undoubtedly. I will post the model number tomorrow. I think the top brands to look for are Canon, Nikon and Sony. As a matter of I think Canon may have the edge over Nikon now. Manu 02-13-2008, 02:13 AM Canon. SD630+ It's the only way to go for a nice, small, pocketable camera that does great point and shoot. BooRadley 02-13-2008, 08:42 AM http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/compare.asp Good utility for finding exactly what you want. You might look into a larger aperture (faster shutter speed) instead of stability control. Keep in mind what kind of memory you have, or how much one type of memory costs or is reusable, when you pick a new camera. And consider how important size is. For a "real" camera, I have a Nikon D70 (http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/specs/Nikon/nikon_d70.asp) that I couldn't be more happy with. I absolutely love it to death. It's been all over the place with me. And for a pocketable camera I can use anywhere (which is often the best feature a camera can have), I have a Canon PowerShot SD300 (http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/specs/Canon/canon_sd300.asp) that I've been extremely happy with. I personally waited until the SD400 came out before I bought the 300, to save some cash. Think about how much megapixles matter to you compared to money before you buy. You can sometimes get a really good deal on a slightly-out-of-date camera instead of the newest release in the line. Don't pay any extra at all for digital zoom. Also think about video quality, and if it's important to you. I use that Cannon more as a camcorder than as a camera. (It'll record for as long as you have memory, and with 2 gig memory cards, that's a pretty long scene). And make sure you read reviews. Check both dpreview.com and steves digicams (http://www.steves-digicams.com/). Make sure you know what you're paying for before you pay it, or you may be paying extra for features you don't really care about. Kraw 02-13-2008, 01:07 PM get a dSLR from Canon. They are under 1000 and can be customized with lenses. check out B&H Photo on the web. They are based in NYC. That's where I got mine from Manu 02-13-2008, 04:36 PM Do you want an SLR or do you want a Point and Shoot? Red 02-13-2008, 06:22 PM i am seriously debating an SLR (i love my Canon Rebel 2000), but a point 'n shoot is far easier to carry on hikes, car shows, work, etc. Saison 02-13-2008, 06:32 PM i am seriously debating an SLR (i love my Canon Rebel 2000), but a point 'n shoot is far easier to carry on hikes, car shows, work, etc. I have several cameras for different occasions. For serious shooting, I have my SLR (Nikon D50). For vacationing (read: situations where I could give a crap what the pics look like, or if the camera is stolen or lost), we use a Kodak Easy Share 5 mega pixel. For snorkling, I have an underwater camera I bought on ThinkGeek. And for video and audio recording, I have my new one. Samsung S1050. All use the same memory card (SD), so that works. Jojo has the D40 by Nikon and from what I understand it's a lot easier to use. No_Brakes 02-13-2008, 06:35 PM I've actually been thinking about a D40 myself lately. Kraw 02-13-2008, 09:47 PM since I got my dSLR, I never use my other p&s cameras anymore. I carry it to all events. I have a really good strap for it :nice: My S1is is in the closet and the wife's SDxxx is in her purse Manu 02-14-2008, 02:28 AM I'm all about the pocket camera and it produces some stunning pictures, just not if you want full control over them. I would HIGHLY recommend the SD630 or SD700. BooRadley 02-16-2008, 10:00 PM Pocket cameras are great for when you want something you can carry around with little effort or inconvenience. I take mine with me sometimes when I'd doing something like skateboarding or skiing, where trying to haul a dSLR would be just damned silly, or anytime I need video. I think we've gotten a lot of people, myself included, suggesting the Cannon SDxxx. You ought to look into it for a pocket camera. Red 04-10-2008, 11:32 PM i finally decided on a Canon EOS 40D. 10.1 MP, and it comes with an EF 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM lens. a little bit on the heavy side, ~27oz, but it fits my hands well, better than the similar cameras. Shadoglare 04-11-2008, 11:29 AM Canons seem to be good stuffs... I'm sure it'll do well for ya. When I saw this thread back up I was going to make a point to mention to stay away from Fuji... I have a pocket cam of theirs that I loved for like a year... and then I found out their firmware has a slight problem... like as in it breaks if the batteries go dead while you're in the middle of an image transfer, to the point where you have to send it in to the shop. Did not make me happy :P Kraw 04-11-2008, 08:38 PM damn man, nice choice :nice: / me is jealous I bought my wife a SD1100IS in chocolate. Takes great pics for a small camera Red 04-11-2008, 10:01 PM damn man, nice choice :nice: / me is jealous I bought my wife a SD1100IS in chocolate. Takes great pics for a small camera thx. :nice: also picked up a Canon EF 50mm f/1.4 USM for my Rebel 2000 SLR, but i may wind up selling that camera. we'll see. jgge 04-14-2008, 02:35 AM The canon 40D is a little expensive for me, the SD1100IS seems cool, i found it for only $220 http://www.dealstudio.com/searchdeals.php?deal_id=94979 How it works? |
