so, I'm buying a big tv to put on my wall, I think I want a vizio 47" or 50", the 50 is plasma and priced well, the 47 is a LCD .... does it really matter. I'm just going to use it to watch movies from time-to-time.... I do not have nor intend to get any cable tv or anything .... just a few movies a week and football / baseball games. the only downfall to plasma is burn-in, right? ... the picture looks better, right? ... I'm just not sure what to get .... has anyone here been faced with the decision? ... I'm looking for "value" I do not mind spending money, as long as I'm getting what I pay for .... I'm not interested in the latest or greatest, not interested in great sound, not interested in the greatest picture on the market (allthough I do think i'd like 1080) .... just a regular good valued TV for the wall ... i noticed the lcd's are 1080p, the Plasma is 1080i (interlaced), but that's ok, right ... the plasma is faster refresh so 1080i probably looks better then the lcd w/ 1080p, right?

I think you should buy the LCD one.
Im not a tv expert or anythin but ive had some big screens and I think the plasma kind of fades overtime. Also the LCD is a much more versatile unit. Plus, if anything goes wrong more technicians are familiar with LCD and even pc guys will be able to lend a hand. For plasmas most times you have to ship it back to the manufacturer which if you are like me is a hassle.

Id rather someone just come to my house and fix or take it and fix or something rather than ship it off and have it pass through multiple hands.

I prefer LCD TVs. Plasma's are more susceptable to Burn In, they have a shorter lifespan

I got a 'lil 42" for 950 ... it was too good a deal to give up, I got a cupon for a vizio VS42LF at costco ... its 1080p and i think I'll like it .... waiting for the wall mount to arrive before I unbox it. I got a sony dream system ... the 3 speaker one for 269; a great deal IMO .... should be a pretty ok set-up.

I could not resist. I unboxed the ****er yesterday and watched some movies. its nice ... and the sound is good. can't wait until the dreamsystem comes and I can play DVD's with that .... it'll probably be better then this junker DVDplayer I have now (it does not even have HDMI). so far looks like a great deal on the TV :nice: wallmount and dreamsystem should arrive by tuesday I hope!
