I actually kind of like it personally. Only problem is by the time it makes production it will probably be a FWD V6 with that insipid auto-stick thing and no real manual offered. It'll folow in the glorious http://discussanything.com/Ubb/rolleyes.gif footsteps of the the PT Cruiser, a reskinned Neon (the biggest POS currently sold in the US today, excepting anything made by Kia or Hyundai).

Looking at it again, the BASIC premise ain't that bad.

That is just edge styling taken WAY too far.

I mean, come on, if people say the new mustang is too mcuh edge, who in their right mind would build that?

Imagine that car with few angles, and lots of rounded curves. Everything smooth and transitioned. I like the headlights...for the most part, maybe just a bit more subtle.

Take it in black, with the 'hood lines' lightly chromed. VERY subtley done. It COULD be amazing...

Yeah, but these show/concept cars are always ridiculously overdone, styling-wise. If it makes it to production you can be sure it will be toned down, big time.

I'd be willing to bet money that a properly maintained 2002 Hyundai will be running more reliably than your 2002 Camaro in 8 years.

I generally only respond to potshots if they're clever. Yours, unfortunately, isn't. Today's your lucky day, though. Take your typical tin-box import like a Kia, or Hyundai, and treat it like the average Z28. Bolt on sticky tires and run the hell out of it at the track regularly. How long will they last, y'think?

What are f-bodies designed to do, anyway? They were designed to go very fast and do it cheaply. They do this exceptionally well. What were Kias & Hyundais designed to do? Get you from point A to point B reliably & cheaply. Well, I think they got it half-right, anyway.

I would think you'd be rooting for more broken-down imports, after all that's what puts food on your table, isn't it?

Oh, no. We're not going to start Korean-car bashing now, are we? Which really sucks, cuz personally being a Korean, I don't have much to say in defense of our cars. But yeah, come on, now. Comparing Camaros and Hyundais is like comparing lettuce and watermelons because they're in the same supermarket. Its just not even a fair comparison. And hell, who's going to talk smack to a 10 year, 100,000 mile warranty? I mean, I don't know all the details on the warranty plan, but it sure as hell would be the biggest factor in my decision to ever (god forbid) buy a Hyundai.

I don't know about longevity, but I do know for a fact that some people are getting 1000 Hp and better out of some of these tin box imports. FWD = poor traction and poor ET's, BUT, they do achieve very high trap speeds.

If you compare HP per cubic inch, when was the last time someone put together a 3000 Hp Chevy small block and had it hold together?

Of all places to read Hyundai bashing, I'd expect an open-minded board of this caliber to be the last place I'd see it. Have you ever even driven a newer Hyundai? Making statements like you have, it's obvious that you haven't. Hyundai stopped producing shit boxes on wheels back in 1996 after they stopped using parts from mitsubishi.

Go ahead and bolt a set of slicks onto that camaro and see how long that shit box for a rearend lasts http://discussanything.com/Ubb/rolleyes.gif One of the guys in our shop has had a 1993 and 1994 excel since they were brand new and he drives them harder than you'll ever even dream of driving that Z28. WOT power shifts everywhere he goes, ebrake skids, jumping hills, you name it he does it. This guy literally beats the living hell out of these cars, but they're still going strong at over 180k miles each...treat your Z like that and see how long it lasts.

Hehe, I'm from the ATL, remember? You wont find many pepsi drinkers around here, least of all me. This is my first GM car, actually. Previously 5 Fords and 1 Nissan. All were good cars except my first car, an '84 Escort GT, which left me stranded 4 different times in 9 months. I'll buy any make of car so long as it has 2 doors, drives the back wheels, and has what normal people would call too much power.

For Dest, it seems like you're an open minded man who is willing to drive import cars. And from hearing what you had to say about 2 doors, rear-wheel drive, and wxtra horsepower, look into a Toyota Corolla GTS (aka trueno, AE-86), between 1985-1987. They can be had for around $3,000 in pretty good shape, and the older MR-2 supercharged, I believe, engine drops in with ease for under a grand and a half, I think. It is, without a doubt, the most entertaining car I've ever driven. This includes a 94 Mustang GT (which I was leaving 30 ft long strips of rubber on the ground with for 20 minutes, so don't tell me I didn't really drive it) my friend's 200hp + civic that weighed around 2000 lbs, porsche 968 (for like 30 seconds, but it was still sweet) and a couple less notables. But yeah, it is a perfectly balanced car, the handling is absolutely stunning. You can whip the tail end out with a thought. Understeer and oversteer in corners are just a wish away. Makes me wanna cry just thinking about it. That's my 2 cents.

You've shown your bias against GM's (LS1 drivers in particular) on numerous occasions

I don't really appreciate that unfounded comment. Name 1 occasion where I've bashed LS1's or their driver's...you can't because I never have. In fact, I'm usually the one to venture out and offer compliments and a thumbs up to many of the F-body owners around town or on the internet. I like ALL cars or any form of mobile transportation whether it be a Mustang, F-body, Hyundai Accent, Yugo, or what. Doesn't matter to me as long as it has an engine and it moves.

For every horror story you can tell of a Hyundai, I can name scores of satisfied Hyundai customers. Do you even have any PERSONAL experience with them? I do. I've had more Hyundai's in my driveway than you'll ever ride in during the entire course of your life and every single one of them have been trouble free.

At any rate...I don't enjoy internet flame wars, so I'll leave it at this...IMO every make and model has it's downfalls as well as it's upsides, but when properly maintained any vehicle will last.

Yeah, that must be one helluva strong drivetrain to handle full-throttle powershifts with all of 100 or so drive-wheel horsepower. Throw out some more my-buddy's-cousin-Bubba anecdotes about what a rock a Hyundai is and what a shit-box everything else is, I don't care. I've got a buddy whose brand-new '97 Hyundai broke down on the side of the road on his way home from the dealership.
You've shown your bias against GM's (LS1 drivers in particular) on numerous occasions. And yep, my 10-bolt is a POS. They break almost as often as T5/T45's. I've owned a few of those, too. Put a sub-2 liter 4 banger making a 100 or so ft-lbs in my f-body, like they do in those fabulous Hyundais, and I'm sure my drivetrain would go 180k trouble-free miles, too.

Not ragging on all imports in general. The Japanese make some damn fine cars and have for many years.

Wow, I wasn't aware there were any RWD Corollas. As for other imports, I kind of wish I still had my '90 Nissan 240SX back to tinker with. Nissan had a lot of potential in that platform they never tapped. It was fairly light and had RWD w/ multi-link rear suspension. Mine also had the optional 4-wheel steering. This car had great handling & manuererability, and with decent tires wouldve been even better. The 205/55/16's mine had were a very-noticable weak link. The only real complaint was the engine, the 2.4L 12-valve 4 with 140hp. Decent enough engine for most, but if it had had the 24V V6 from the Maxima/300ZX I would probably still be driving this car today. I don't know what would be involved with an engine swap but back then aftermarket support for imports was still pretty sparse, and ungodly expensive at that.

Yup, there was a rear-wheel drive Corolla. From what I've heard from my GT-S nut friends, Toyota lost a bundle of money making that car. And its the rear-wheel drive that makes that car. God, I wish the rumors I heard about the new Integra (I refuse to call it by its American market moniker) being RWD were true. Not that I could afford it anyway. =( But its always nice to dream, is it not?

On the topic of Nissan's...one of the most fun cars to drive I've ever owned was a Nissan Pulsar. I bought it off the wholesale lot at work for $200, spent 10 minutes making a few minor adjustments, and slapped a set of el cheapo tires on that thing and it was a blast! It handled so much better than all of the stangs I've ever owned and with the t-tops down it was pretty cool to cruise around in as well, not to mention the 35 mpg it got! http://discussanything.com/Ubb/smile.gif And best of all...I sold it a month later for $2000 http://discussanything.com/Ubb/eek.gif
