I'm in the mood for a gin based beverage. What's a good one to get? Not looking to spend a lot. Also, what's the best way to mix it up? Gin & tonic?

Also, what's the best way to mix it up? Gin & tonic? igofast 01-24-2008, 04:15 PM :P Of course you picked the one liquor I don't like. If I did though, you really can't go wrong with a well-made classic martini. Shadoglare 01-24-2008, 05:20 PM Mmmmmm Pine-Sol-y..... no thanks :P optimus 01-24-2008, 05:27 PM GIN AND JUICE BEEYOTCHES Feenix566 01-24-2008, 05:40 PM I like Gin and Tonic. If you wanna get fancy, you could make a Tom Collins. Don't ask me what the real recipe is, though. I just use the Tom Collins mix :P Either way, make sure you squirt some lime juice into it. It doesn't taste the same without it. colonel 01-24-2008, 06:11 PM Tom Collins: 1&1/4 oz gin. Juice from 1 lemon. Dash of simple syrup. (sugar or liquid honey will do in a pinch) 3 oz Club Soda (use 7up if you want it sweeter) Shake the first three ingredients vigorously with ice and pour into a tumbler. Top with soda and garnish with orange wheel. If you want that professional frothy look add a little egg white before you shake. colonel 01-24-2008, 06:18 PM If you're making gin cocktails you should probably pick up some Angostura bitters as it's featured in many of them. Honolulu: 2 oz gin. 1/2 oz pineapple juice. 1/2 oz OJ. 1/4 oz lemon juice. Dash of simple syrup. Dash of angostura. Chill a martini glass and sugar rim it. Shake all ingredients with ice and strain. Garnish with lemon peel. colonel 01-24-2008, 06:35 PM Meh...she's probably legless already. :| Red 01-24-2008, 06:35 PM Meh...she's probably legless already. :| lol :p igofast 01-24-2008, 07:21 PM hey kernel, I hate recipes that need simple syrup. I know it's just melted sugar, but really, who has the time to make simple syrup while making drinks at home?! Saison 01-24-2008, 07:58 PM Meh...she's probably legless already. :| legless? Is that like drunk, or something? p.s. I bought a small dealie of bombay sapphire. no club soda so I'm SOL for today. Will attempt some of these tomorrow after another stop at the liquor store. :P igofast 01-24-2008, 08:54 PM Do you have ice and vermouth? Martini time! colonel 01-24-2008, 09:27 PM hey kernel, I hate recipes that need simple syrup. I know it's just melted sugar, but really, who has the time to make simple syrup while making drinks at home?! Hey iggy, just use sugar and shake the shit out of it. :) igofast 01-24-2008, 09:29 PM I can do that. Can't that bruise the booze though? Something I've never really understood, bruising liquid. colonel 01-24-2008, 09:34 PM I can do that. Can't that bruise the booze though? Something I've never really understood, bruising liquid. That refers to bruising the gin in a martini. I stir mine because I think shaking a martini actually does affect the taste. Any other booze is fair game as far as I'm aware. igofast 01-24-2008, 09:40 PM Well then I guess it's good that I prefer mine with vodka. But it does bother me when someone orders a martini and then exclaims, "what is this? I didn't ask for gin!" (I don't know if that happens all that often outside of LA) colonel 01-24-2008, 09:44 PM But it does bother me when someone orders a martini and then exclaims, "what is this? I didn't ask for gin!" (I don't know if that happens all that often outside of LA) It happens everywhere. Try being the guy who took the time to make a perfect martini in the middle of a busy shift just to have some asshat send it back. :shakefist:shakefist:shakefist Miss Misery 01-24-2008, 09:53 PM wow. gin is like my favorite booze. although i stick to martinis, gins and tonics, and tom collins' i also like gimlets igofast 01-24-2008, 10:10 PM I've got some gimlets for you. igofast 01-25-2008, 01:03 AM With all the talk, I had to make one. Shake with ice and strain. Garnish with lime wedge. If you use fresh lime and sugar it's more like a Gin Rickey. Martinis are ok if you like a good strong belt. Otherwise gin and tonic. Martini= gin + white vermouth and olive. sweet martini = gin + sweet vermouth. Gibson = Gin + White Vermouth and pickled onion. Gin and Tonic = uh... gin + tonic. Me? I prefer scotch. Miss Misery 01-27-2008, 02:21 AM Not you ya big bag of dopey... but have a good night in any event. tonight im at home watching the creature from the black lagoon. so i guess i should start lookin' in the mirror :P colonel 01-27-2008, 08:12 AM I'm afraid I can't serve you any more miss.
