I was lurking on another board where a chick was talking about putting a dating add on craigslist:eek7: Ok, it's been a looong time since I was single and dating, but is that the norm now-a-days? Hasn't craiglist been in the news alot later for rapes and murders??

Aren't there more 'reputable' sites out there?

Yes. However, this is how news works:
There was a bad experience with craigstlist? Blow it way out of proportion, make it sound like it's the end of the world and it will kill you, your family and your children. And your pets. And your friends' children. Great! That'll get ratings.

there are bad people in the world. chances are they're going to interact with you, regardless of the venue.

I've barely even peeked at Craig's.... probably because most stuff on it seems to only apply to those in large cities for some reason...

you can get raped or murdered meeting somebody from ANY site, it's not like that thing only happens on craigslist. Hell you can get raped or murdered by the guy you met in the bookstore

Or by somebody you've never met.

Umm, yes I am aware of this. Guess I would just be a little guarded over meeting up with a stranger I met over the net.

Eh, you just have to take your time to get to know them a little before hooking up, and make sure you play it safe the first couple of times just to be sure.

Frankly the best relationships I've had have been with people I met over the 'net... the ones where I hooked up with someone "in real life" tended to fizzle out more quickly because you tend to hook up based pretty much just on looks at first rather than knowing much about the person...

Oh, I'm not saying it can't happpen and that you can't meet good people over the net. I actually met an online friend IRL about 2yrs ago. It was on a message board where I and a few other of the girls really clicked. We ended up doing a smaller spin off message board, and got to know each other more closely. This was over a course of two yrs, and I had talked with her over the phone etc. When she moved closer to my local my family and hers met up for lunch and to hang out. So I can see how real relatinships can form over a period of time.

Unfortunately many don't get to know the other person well enough before meeting in person. I remember reading at least 3 or 4headlines this yr where women were raped or murdered just by answering ads on craiglist. Some weren't even related to dating. Hence my statement about advertising yourself on CL.

I just meant that i don't see how meeting a stranger from online is any different from meeting a stranger at a bookstore/bar/where ever IRL, you should always use the same precautions regardless.
