I know we have a lot of Tool fans on the site, but what do you guys think of Maynard's other band???
I couldn't even tell it was Maynard when I got the CD... I think they rock!! I can't wait until the new CD is done.

They have some good material but I believe they are a far cry from the creations that Tool presents to its fans.

A Perfect Circle is good. It's not really Maynard's band, I think it's more Billy Howerdel's band than anything. My friend asked me to go see Nine Inch Nails, I said sure, why not. I had nothing better to do. Then when I found out APC was opening, I was overjoyed to go! I was really there just for them. :) I loved the first cd they put out. Awesome lyrics.

I saw A Perfect Circle with Nine Inch Nails and I was impressed with the band, then I bought the cd. I'm still impressed.. and now I wait for the 2nd album come this fall. : )

I suppose the reason they sound so different despite having Maynard out front is just because Billy and Adam just have such individual styles. In some cases Perfect Circle ends up sounding a lot more 'dreamy' if you know what I mean. Also, APC's songs are much shorter and 'to the point' (no 3-minute intros to a song, for example).
I can't wait to hear more either. Lowtide, what do you know about a new CD?

I was down with A Perfect Circle before Mer de Noms ever came out. They had been on a few tours, and I picked up some bootleg mp3s on the 'net, digged 'em. The first thing I did when I got the CD was decode the liner notes. They use this funky character set and wrote little exerpts from the songs inside, next to images that represented them. One of my favorite things about this band, believe it or not, is not Maynard. It's Paz Lenchantin. She's an incredibly talented violinist, a mighty fine bassist, and well, just mighty fine. I've met her twice at concerts, and got to be in her home video of one of them!
At my first A Perfect Circle concert(coincidentally, my first concert ever), the venue was the Hollywood Palladium. For anyone who hasn't been there, it's a tiny little standing-room-only dance hall, and it was packed to the brim and above. I was about six feet back from the barrier, and surrounded by a human ocean on all sides. I had picked out an adoptee at the beginning of the night: a short little girl who would have died up there without my help, and put her on my shoulders. She still only lasted about 20 minutes. The energy at that show hasn't been matched by any show previous. I came home bleeding, with bruised ribs, dehydrated but drenched in others' sweat and blood.
The highlight of the evening was near the end of the show, when the band reached into a cooler and started throwing us all water bottles. I caught one from Billy Howerdel, immediately opened it and poured it out all over everyone around me. I still have that bottle, with the ticket stub from the show tucked inside. Fantastic show.

According to the APC website, Billy (Howerdell) was writing songs while Maynard was recording Lateralus and is still finishing them up, Maynard it going to put some words to the music (like he did on Mer de noms) and then they'll record a follow up.
Lateralis- You correctly point out that the songs were originally written by Billy Howerdell and that the concept for APC is mostly Billy Howerdell's. Thank's for the correction, in case no one else knew.
I don't know, it seems like the early 21st century has been a "Mer de crap" as far as music has been concerned, and Maynard's able to pull off fronting 2 full time bands... the guy completely kicks ass.
