I just got back a few hours ago from a 4-day weekend. :D On Thursday I drove to Redwood City to meet with a couple people (my friend Brent, and his friend Keith) to talk about this new website/business that Brent wants me to be a part of. Its an online 'talent showcase', for models, actors, artists, etc... a place for them to post their pictures, resume, and all that. As for my part, he wants me to help with the designing of the website... Keith is the main webmaster, but its his first time creating a website, and the site definitely needs some help! :o Then we had a BBQ at Keith's house, (with his family) and we had a great night.
After that I went down to Santa Cruz to visit with my friend for a couple days. And in case you're wondering, no, its not like that at all....he's like a brother to me. I've known him for about 10 years, and at one time Brent, me and another girl (Jackie) were all roommates.
Speaking of Jackie, she also lives in Santa Cruz now, and I saw her this weekend too, which was good because I hadn't seen or talked to her in ages. When we were roommates, we got along for the most part, but we did go through some problems, and her and I didn't stay friends like Brent and I have. She just had a baby 3 months ago, and it has changed her so much... Having her son has really opened her heart, and made her more mellow and mature. She also went back to Christianity, after years of not practicing... and that has also changed her, which was cool! :)
On Saturday, we went to this concert/festival at the Shoreline ampitheatre called 'Sounds of Hawaii (http://thesoundsofhawaii.com/)' with about 7 people, including Jackie and her boyfriend. (Brent's dad lives in Hawaii, and he's been there lots of times, and he's really in love with Hawaii, the culture, music, etc) I didn't think I'd like it, cause its not like I'm into Hawaiian music, but it turned out to be awesome.... I loved it! :D
This one performer, Jake Shimabukuro played the ukelele (sp?) like you would not believe. :D One of the songs he played was the star spangled banner, and the whole place stood up, and he got a standing ovation. Then there was this band called Kapena who were great, and funny too. All the people on stage had that laid-back, happy vibe that you have in Hawaii.... know what I mean? The last performers I loved the best.... they're a 3 women group called Na-Leo (http://www.na-leo.com/). It was the first time I had heard of them, but I loved every single one of their songs... and now I want to get their cd! One of the singers had the most beautiful voice I have ever heard, especially when she sang a song called 'You Don't Remember'. The song is about having a baby, and she dedicated it to all mothers. It made Jackie (who had her 1st baby 3 months ago) cry, and I think just about everyone in the whole place got teary-eyed. :o
Brent was saying that Hawaii is a spiritual place, and you could definitely see this in the performers, especially Na-leo. They were spirit-filled and you could feel it all the way to where we were sitting, way up on the lawn. It was beautiful.
Today Brent and I went to Twin Lakes church, a huge Christian church right by his house. It was great, I liked it a lot. I thought about something today... I think a lot of people who are either atheist, agnostic, or non-practicing Christians have probably never experienced a really good, cool church. Maybe they grew up going to a boring church, or maybe the only time they go to any church is for a wedding or funeral. There are a lot of awesome churches out there, you just have to know which ones to go to! I think if some non-Christians actually went to one of these, their pre-conceived notions would be squashed.
Anyway, enough about my weekend. I'll sign off here with a pic I took at the beach at sunset, near my friend's house. He lives near Capitola.
Maholo (thank you) and God Bless!
