View Full Version : Am I getting stupid?
igofast 06-26-2002, 01:29 PM I've noticed lately that my typing has slowed. Even with it slightly slower, I still find myself making many mistakes, much more than I used to, and many of them making no sense at all. Not just a slip of the finger, but instead of spelling "cat" I'll spell "catu" for no apparant reason at all.
I also often mess up writing numbers. If someone says their phone number is 555-3567, I'll write down 555-7536 or something.
And I stumble over my words when I speak sometimes.
I think I'm getting stupid, maybe it's a tumor.
[schwarzneggar impression] It is not a tumah!
Unrepresented 12-04-2002, 07:28 PM Same here. I've been having the same problems. Never seemed t happen before, especially stumbling over words when I speak...
I like to think that we've just got more on our minds than we did a few years back. Like for instance, rather than focussing specifically on a school related topic, our brains are cluttered with school, work, a thousand minor details around the house, women, food, sleep, lack of sleep, lack of food, finances, etc.
We're generalists now rather than specialists, and as a result, our skills in specialist actions will suffer.
Like speaking coherently apparently:|
Or it's just the drinking problem.

If you're going to blame the drink, you might consider that you're not drinking enough. Your brain becomes clogged over time with weak, and dying brain cells. In an effort to rid yourself of these oxygen wasters, I suggest drinking frequently in an effort to kill them off.
Survival of the fittest should apply to brain cells too. I see know reason why these should be exempted from natural laws that apply to other organisms.

Everyone has highs, and lows, (which can be exacerbated by illness, alcohol, sleep, diet....you name it). Try tracking your feelings of mental well-being over time....try to corelate those highs and lows with the above.
