View Full Version : A little lack of creativity?
69mach 06-28-2001, 09:17 PM After reading of the Chad McQueen, Bullitt promotional stunt, I was left with a little uneasy feeling. It kind of saddens me to watch milestones of the past, ripped off for present day profit. Along with the T-Bird, and Mustang Mach1, it’s starting to look as though this trend is going to stay. Don’t get me wrong I love nostalgia, but I think our heroes and icons of the past should respectively stay in our memories and out of the hands of corporate America. Where are the defining moments of this generation? I would like to see Ford or maybe our society as a whole, bring something new to the table that’s substantial. Any thoughts?
On one hand, I feel ya man.
But the MACH 1 concept is awesome. It is what people have been dying for. A from the facotry, 300 HP mustang with a solid axel! And the looks, it is So true to form.

Fordman50 06-29-2001, 08:02 PM Actually, I like them bringing it back. I never really like the fox bod much when it was out (I like it more now) I like to see ford going back to its roots with this retro thing

I'm not "always right", it just seems that way
Spelling is for kids! I think you got the point!
I'm getting tired of seeing them bring back old names to sell more cars too. Why not call it something new and make a new legend so to speak?
Manu, I agree that it looks pretty good, but it's far from being different. It looks like a GT/V6/Bullit/Coupe, only with a black shaker hood and a black spoiler. For the rest there's little difference in exterior styling. I think it should look new, refreshing, not just a variation to a theme.
But thats not what a traditional mach was. A traditional mach looks almost exactly like the GT. It is going to get different wheels (not the torqe thrusts) and it has the rear spoiler, shaker scoop (and paint scehem on hood) and the balck front spoiler. It also has a different interior, shifter, guage pod, and is that TIGHT grabber blue!

69mach 07-03-2001, 09:11 PM Well, if were gonna focus on the New Mach1, then yes the concept does stick to the original theme of the mach1 package, for the most part. The Mach1 package was never a performance option. It was a GT car with cosmetic inhancements only. For '69 the only real unique equpment to a Mach1 was the High-Back seats, some upholstery cues and the paint striping. Then the seats became standard equpment in '70. There was no performance advantage to a mach1 at all.
Let me ask this differently. Do you think we have the makings of a legend to be told 30 years form now or will we be singing about the same classics we are right now?
Turbostang 07-04-2001, 06:05 AM I think it's going to go the route of the Boss Shindoa Mustang that was released a few years ago. Not many people remember those.
Hmmmm... the Mustang having an identity crisis? On one hand, the car is probably about as good as it has ever been. On the other hand, there really isn't anything about it that makes it memorable like the past generations of the car. 1st gen speaks for itself. Mustang IIs are known for Charlies Angels and the King Cobra. Third gen is known for the mighty 5.0.
