I know that a lot of the peolpe on teh board are heavily into performance cars, but what is your favorite NON performance car that you've driven in?

i drove my friends and it had the smoothest ride and the shifting was soooo nice....if i ever bought another car that wasn't for performance(basically if i got rid of my current winter beater)then that would be the car that i would buy

my fathers 1929 Nash Landau Sedan, Model 428. 1 of 6 left in the world, i believe 1 of 2 left with export colors. too bad only the chassis is restored and not the body yet.

Well, I gotta tell, ya, I've been making fun of them since they hit the market a couple of years ago. But, this weekend, the chance to drive one popped up, and I was IMPRESSED!! Talkin' about the new 'Beetle' from VW. Mom and Dad drove up from Florida in theirs. Olive green (yuck), turbo deisel, 5-spd manual, etc. Man, that thing handles like it is on rails and has more get up and go that it has a right to have. They drove from Lake City, Florida to Dayton, Ohio and back on under $60 in fuel cost. They averaged just over 55 mpg.

Say what ya want about'em, just don't knock it till ya drive it. I'm a believer...

lol. Well the unleaded ones don't get as good fuel economy of course, but don't ya have to ride them pretty hard?

I am a BIG fan of Lincoln LS. Never driven one, but been in one. Looks/comfort it is NICE.

Not really. It has 130 hp and 175 lb/ft of torque (I think that's what dad told me) so it motors along quite nicely. For a dead stop it's a little weak until the turbo spools up. Really a fun car to drive, though.

That does sound cool. I learned to drive in a beatle. Hell thats all anyone had back in high school. I used to have a (unAmerican peugot 505 turbo diesel and it too hadled like it was on rails and it was bigger than my Taurus! This never broke down either. It had an auto tranny that would snag 2nd too when the turbo was all spooled up. At the time my GF had a small CRX Si and I could eat her up on corners in that thing. French cars got a bad rap in the 80s from Renues Le Car. A 505 class is bullit proof and better then most BMWs and Mercedes in there class and regarded as such over in Europe. The cool thing is since Americans are missinformed about them, you can pick up a world class luxery sport sadan used that is way sweeter than a lexus for about a grand or less if you look around.

well i might be a bit biased but i am really enjoying my Mini. Even though it handles great, it only has 55fwhp so I guess that qualifies as being a non performance car...

It's not comfortable, but it drives great and is very fuel economic (60ish mpg)

Manu

hehe and here I am getting 21 mpg on the stang.

The funniest thing, I seem to be getting abotut eh same if not possibly BETTER fuel economy on my 260HP V8 than my 145HP V6. I do drive this not quite as hard though :P

I get 29 MPG in my 90 Taurus and 14-17 in my 94 Mustang

In the U.S., we use minis as skateboards! http://discussanything.com/Ubb/biggrin.gif

i like 4x4's. and in fact I own a 70 scout similar to the blue one shown here. mine is dark green and has a bit smaller tires. the kaiser M715 is the ultimate macho-man-big-billy-badass truck. and i want one. with 44in boggers. :D

but if we're talking new stuff, i'd take a 4wheel drive Tahoe or dodge 2500 4x4 (NOT the 02 model. yech)

My '79 Buick Electra Park Avenue. .... I love that car. It's not a performance car but with a 403ci Olds V8 'twister' under the hood it'll move along just fine, the seats feel like a lazy-boy recliner. I love driving it, it’s a tank.

EDIT: You know what? .... I'm a dumbass, I posted the Mark VIII about ..... I guess that would be my favorite that I do not own (yet) :) .... I would not trade my Buick for one though.

Non-performance? My friend's done up Acura Legend, complete with kick ass sound system. For a 10-year old car, it is NICE. Rides smooth, build quality is superb, and it just feels like a car where everything was actually put in the right place.

Volvos aren't exactly cheap either.;)

The Defender is my choice for 4X4, but as far as cars go,

SAAB 95 all the way!

I should put a Camaro here just to piss off Dest & AZLS1, LOL!

I've driven so many though, it'd be hard to choose... Lovely think about being a mechanic, you drive everything. Anyway, I REALLY did like the couple of Jags I got to drive:)
