Upcoming weekend, 4 days at Onslow Beach, North Carolina. Week of August 13, a week at Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Labor Day, 4 days in Jacksonville Beach, Florida.
I have a small camper, which cuts way down on the cost of vacationing and taking long weekends. And if you know where to call, you can stay in places like the Keys for 20 bucks a night. Next year already planning at least a week in Maine, maybe some trips to the mountains.

Ocean City, MD; Pittsburgh, NYC to see moms, Turks & Caicos

We're probably done traveling for the summer, but we're hoping to get out west sometime next year, and also down to the Carolinas.

I've taken a few weekend trips, but nothing I consider a vacation.

Wife and I are going to North Carolina for a week at the end of August to go mountain biking. :nice: Oh, and visit her family. But more for mountain biking.

Spent a fantastic week basking on the beaches of Myrtle Beach soaking up sun. Not a drop of rain the entire week. Light breezes off the atlantic ocean, barbequed meals, prepared by yours truly, and plenty of beer. The only hitch was little kids in disposalable diapers shatting in the pool, thus closing it for the afternoon.

Last month I went to Michigan to visit my mother and my brother. It mostly sucked. For one thing, what should have been about a two-hour plane flight each way turned out to be six hours one way and four the other. Not good with a three-year-old. I'm just not even going to describe the rest, except to say that it had to do with medical trouble, legal trouble, and people who have just never been able to get along.

This month I went to my first "family camp" in NH where my wife had been a camper and counselor throughout her childhood. I know that probably sounds hopelessly boring, but it was actually very nice. We got upgraded to a staff cabin, with heat (the nights can get cold even when the days are hot) and its own bathroom so we didn't have to go out to the big shared one in the middle of the night or for morning showers. Sweet. There were all sorts of things to do, from archery to horseback riding to just about every aquatic activity you could name. The weather was excellent, the food was actually pretty decent (plus we didn't have to cook it) and the people were unbelievably friendly. It's a pretty tight community with low turnover year to year, so I was one of only two or three adults who had never been to the camp before, but I never felt alienated or left out at all. It's easy to see why some families have been coming there fifteen or twenty years. I'm sure we'll be going back. Next year my daughter will probably be better able to play with the other kids, so I might be able to participate more fully in the group activities, so it should be even better. Maybe next time I won't sprain my toe playing water volleyball either.
