View Full Version : Word's Ugliest City?
Criminal 05-22-2007, 11:26 PM I would say its Gary Indiana. East Chicago is a close second.
People tell me Detroit is pretty bad though I never been there so I will withhold my comments on that place.
86Dude 05-23-2007, 01:08 AM Springdale Mexico, I mean Arkansas. Home of Tyson. Ugly ass town.
Wouldnt a place like Harlem take the crown of "Ugliest City"
Or I guess it isnt truely a city, since New York is one?
Gibson 05-23-2007, 09:41 AM Detroit is really bad, but it looks ok from afar. Youngstown is pretty bad...
minni_the_minx 05-23-2007, 09:49 AM Manchester can hardly be called a pretty place by any stretch. :eek3:
Saison 05-23-2007, 10:14 AM Delaware City, DE = one giant chemical plant. Roll up the windows and set the air to recirc at least 5 minutes before arriving.
Wilmington is a close second. All the skanky people who have no sense of pride or propriety move here because property taxes are low and there's no sales tax. Litter, jay-walking uneducated trashy people, graffiti, people who drive like jackasses, and all the smog that's fit to inhale.
Baboon 05-23-2007, 02:20 PM Hartford is pretty bad. Mile after mile of houses with bars in the windows or windows that are boarded up. Abandoned office buildings and graffiti everywhere. But, to avoid sounding like a home state homer, I will say that Reno was pretty much a shithole when I visited earlier this year.
Criminal 05-23-2007, 10:36 PM Hartford is pretty bad. Mile after mile of houses with bars in the windows or windows that are boarded up. Abandoned office buildings and graffiti everywhere. Been to Hartford. Its dull. But not really ugly.
To qualify as ugly the place has to look like nothing can live there.
Besides being butt ugly, Gary smells like a sewer.
BadNews88 05-23-2007, 10:41 PM Cleveland, Ohio whithout a doubt...but mind you, I do NOT say that to cast ANY aspersions on said fiefdom...not anymore...
But it HAS been voted #1 poverty-stricken city in The U.S.A. -- TWO TIMES!:eek3:
And to cap it all...when I made a quick "reconnaisance" visit there in 2004....I saw they lost ALL THREE of their HOOTERS restaurants (As well as several other dining establishments of renown)...a result of the on-going economic downturn.:(
Nope, nowadays I *PRAY* for that city....as opposed to CONDEMNING it..:(

It's getting better!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :P
At least it doesn't SMELL like detroit... And you've got to admit that Cleveland looks fantastic at night :hmm:

MILF-in-DFW 05-25-2007, 04:29 PM Midland Texas has to be on this list someplace.
86Dude 05-25-2007, 05:27 PM Lawton Oklahoma.
SivVulk 05-25-2007, 07:34 PM I've heard Brasilia, Manila and Bangkok are quite awful.... (especially Brasilia)
Out of the places i've been to the ugliest was probably Montpellier
and the ugliest town definitely goes to Oppido Mamerlina in Italy... talk about an eyesore... i hope i never go there again
Commander Lail 05-26-2007, 02:28 AM Ugliest city that I've seen personally is Kingston Jamaica but I'm sure there are worse out there.

NJ Refugee 05-26-2007, 11:22 AM Based on the activities of its inhabitants alone, I'd vote for Washington D.C. ... nowhere in the world is more corrupt or filed with more vile, backstabbing, fork-tongued devils called 'politicians' than the US capital.

Okay little hopping mad penguin guy, you don't like grosse point/e. Why?
On the surface it seems like a perfectly normal, wealthy little coastal town...
Criminal 05-27-2007, 03:55 PM Midland Texas has to be on this list someplace.
Isnt that Dubya's home town? :hmm:

I have a bud who studied there at Catholic University. He said Washington is amazingly beautiful. It is actually on the same level as many European cities since there is not new construction downtown.
Buit he also told me that behind all the lovely neo-classical edifaces are the worst slums in the US. He said that he passed teenage hookers and crack pushers every day outside his appartment. They even knew his name.
Criminal 05-27-2007, 04:05 PM Some other awful places I've been....
Waterloo Iowa,
Springfield IL (Aside from the Lincoln stuff and State Capitol there is nothing worth seeing)
Fresno, CA
Memphis TN (unless you are into Elvis)
Berlin (Cool place really, but butt ugly)
Kissamee Florida
Tampa Florida
Evil Elmo 05-27-2007, 04:24 PM Detroit.
BadNews88 05-27-2007, 05:17 PM I don't dispute the votes for Detroit, having been there in 1996, myself...
The ONLY commendable thing about it was (& is) The MOTOWN MUSEUM on West Grand Bouevard...where the original studios & headquarters of MOTOWN Records were from 1959-1972.
Mind you, when I *DID* visit back then, I stayed in suburban Romulus..
Do ya BLAME me?!
themistocles 06-01-2007, 07:27 PM I don't know, but I'm pretty sure it's in New Mexico.

 WTF? I LOVE Reno.
TheLateGreat 06-02-2007, 01:43 AM Lawton Oklahoma.
Several cities/towns in OK could be contenders.
Though I say that with a large amount of ignorance, admittedly. There are big parts of the country I still haven't been to, and I'm sure Compton, etc. ain't no peaches.
JoeyNormal 06-02-2007, 08:21 AM Funny how many people think the whole world's ugliest city is in the USA (but think the USA is the world's greatest country).
No matter how ****ed up your cities are, you don't have favelas (yet). Guess that puts you ahead of...shit, most of the world.

It IS a paradox.....:hmm:

Probibly because a lot of americans have not traveled much and are unable to comment on places they have not been.
On the web someone stated that Lutton England is Europe's ugliest city.
I thought that Ostrava in Czech Republic was not especially nice.
I did not mention this before but Pueblo Colorado is a very ugly place.
BadNews88 06-13-2007, 10:25 PM  WTF? I LOVE Reno.
If you think that the ONCE wonderful Reno, NV is still a Garden Spot, you're fooling yourself, m8..
It's gone to hell ever since they got rid of their one & only HOOTERS Restaurant back in 1997.:(
