a coworker once told me i looked at poeple's mouths when they talked...lol-she was a spanish lady
As a child growing up in Japan, Yuki was fascinated by pictures of American celebrities.
"Their smiles looked strange to me," Yuki told LiveScience. "They opened their mouths too widely, and raised the corners of their mouths in an exaggerated way."
Japanese people tend to shy away from overt displays of emotion, and rarely smile or frown with their mouths, Yuki explained, because the Japanese culture tends to emphasize conformity, humbleness and emotional suppression, traits that are thought to promote better relationships.
i might have thought in such a formal setting people might be shy about makng eye contact...
no they just dont ever stare, but lots of quick looks. and it sreally not that formal, it sort of makes you feel more confortable, in fact, wehn people are not directly in your face, like we do in the west.
Slinky_Bass 05-22-2007, 02:14 PM Oh F_M san, the article's a little stale...but a good post nonetheless.
I've been experimenting with the more japanese 'eye' orineted smileys lately to see if people do respond differently depending on the type of smiley. I also can't stand all these smiley emoticons and perversions. I prefer the original text 'smilies'.
I think I always look at the eyes.

Funny you should mention that. Every man that meets a women will look her up and down regardless if he finds her attractive or not.
I'm not exactly attractive and I have yet once to meet a guy for the first time and not notice his eyes wondering all over me.
