Also was nice that we had a room in interesting and old prived house. The jack the ripper tour is kind of cool too. They didn't have that mega ferris wheel the last I was there so I had to settle for a long walk to the top of the cathedral dome to get a look at the city from the air. I love that city. SilentNight 05-05-2007, 03:49 PM I live a few miles away and it all depends what sort of entertainment you want . A trip down the Thames is a good way to see London zipper99 05-09-2007, 11:57 AM Good idea, get on at Westminster (after you've had a look at Trafalgar Square, walked down Whitehall, peered in the gates of Downing Street and Tony's Den, seen the Cenotaph (simple, classic war memorial), seen the houses of Parliament and the Big Ben) you will then be close to Westminster Bridge, the landing stage is beside it, get the boat that goes right down to the Thames Barrier (a space age flood prevention scheme, which will drop you off at Greenwich, right there is the Cutty Sark, last of the clipper ships in dry dock and the Gypsy Moth V - a tiny yacht that Sir Francis Chchester sailed singlehanded around the world - there is also a foot tunnel under the Thames (not much to see on the other side, but it's an experience) you can then walk up the hill to the Royal Observatory and see the Prime Meridian (where Greenwich Mean Time begins), walk into the streets nearby there are lots of cafes, bistros and bric-a-brac shops. |
