Hi to whoever is reading this... this is SO great, I've been wanting one of these blogs for a while now! :D I know that most here at DA don't know me... so in case anyone cares to know a little about me, I'll give you the 'about me' page. ;)

My real name is Cindy (well, its actually Cynthia) and I'm a 30-something, but very young at heart. :) I also look really young for my age, people always think I'm in my 20's. I'm the middle child of 3 girls (supposedly the worst birth order to be in) and my parents are still married, for over 30 years.

I was born in southern California, but I have lived just about everywhere. I hate when people ask me "where are you from?" because I don't feel like there's one city I'm from. I lived in Orange County and LA (Los Feliz) till I was 8, and then my family moved to Jakarta, Indonesia for my Dad's job. We lived there for a year. Then we moved to San Diego for a while, and then overseas again when I was 11. That time it was Riyadh, Saudi Arabia for 2 years. One of the cool things about living overseas is that you get to travel all over the world. I've been all over Europe, the Middle East, the far East (Singapore, Thailand, Japan, Hong Kong), Central and South America, and all over the US. I LOVE to travel, and I'm fortunate (blessed) that I had the opportunity to do so much traveling when I was younger...(because i definitely can't afford it now!) I have a lot of stories about living in Saudi Arabia, but I don't want to turn this into a novel.

I remember when we moved back to the states (to San Diego again) when I was in the 8th grade. It was funny, because up until that time I had been kinda sheltered (when i moved i was still a child, and when i got back i was 13) and I remember being at my junior high and seeing "Do Bongs" written all over the lockers. I wanted to know what that meant, so I asked a girl in my class that question, and she laughed at me. (I did finally figure it out) Another thing that was embarassing was P.E class. I had never gone to a school where you had to change your clothes in the locker room. I was still wearing under-shirts at that time, and to my embarassment I realized everyone else was wearing bras. :D Of course I had to get one after that. I don't know why I just shared that bit of info, but anyway...

Thankfully, we stayed in one place til I graduated from high school and then my family moved to the Bay Area. A few years later, my parents moved to England for my Dad's job... and although I had already been on my own, I moved there with them for a while (to Swindon, England) and that was another interesting experience. I met some people there that became good friends... I was going to talk about that, but I'm already rambling too much here.

ANYWAY... back to the states. I wasn't really into school in my early 20's so I worked for a long time. And just had fun... went out every weekend. We used to go dancing in San Francisco all night. Around that time, I became good friends with a guy that my friend introduced me to a few years earlier, in LA. We went from friends to a couple, and we were together for 3 years. We lived together, which is something that I would not do now... but at the time, it seemed like the thing to do. He has the best personality, and is one of the funnest people I know... but I broke up with him when I finally realized that he was not 'the one'. (lots of reasons, but i won't get into that)

OK, this is getting too long. I'll fast forward here. I moved to San Francisco and went to SFSU for 3 years. I decided I want to get into the film/TV business, so I was a Cinema major. I was also getting interested in politics at that time, so I took a few political science classes. SF State is a VERY left-wing campus, and although I was just starting to get into politics, I already knew that I didn't agree with the ideology of my left-wing professors (a few of them were Marxists), and a lot of the students there.

While living in SF, I directed/produced my own public access TV show. It was a variety show about the city. For each show we had a main interview, a music segment (local bands), a comedy segment (we did some hilarious stuff) and "The People Speak" segment, where we took the camera on the street and asked a question. All that in 28 minutes. :p There were a few people (mostly students) that worked on the show, and that was definitely one of the funnest things I've ever done. Its cool to have people come up to you and say, "I saw your show last night." I would like to do another PA show, but unfortunately no one gets paid, and its time-consuming. Its a great learning experience, though, and I recommend doing public access to anyone who wants to get into TV/film.

It was around this time that I first became a believer (long story!) - although it wasn't until a couple years later that I actually made the commitment and became born again.

I didn't finish my degree... I moved to LA, and I did work on one film, a documentary directed/produced by a good friend of mine. That's a whole other story in itself. Other than that, I've been doing other types of work, not what I want to be doing. So about 6 weeks ago, I left LA and I'm planning on taking some more classes. Everything now is digital, so I need to learn digital editing, and I want to take some other classes too. I'm temporarily living with my parents in Plymouth, which is about 35-40 miles from Sacramento, in 'gold country'. Just a few years ago they built a house on their land (31 acres) WAY out in the boonies. Its really nice here, and peaceful. The 'country life' is a whole different world than the city. I might post some pics later, cause like I said, its beautiful here. :)

I know I didn't get into the story on my conversion to Christianity. My spiritual birthday is July 9, 2000. I think that was the best day of my life, the day I gave myself to Christ. And that was probably the biggest turning point in my life... now I'm on a different path. I won't get into all of that right now, because this "little bit about me" turned out to be a LONG post, and I don't know if anyone is even still reading this. :D

So I'll sign off for now...

later! http://www.smileycollector.com/images/smiles/purplehappy.gif

What a great story, Cindy!

From one believer to another - I'd like to hear the part of your path to Christ. :)

You have to put salt on their tail, then they hold still.

Actually they were hand-tame. Petting zoo sort of thing. Friend took that picture. 10 seconds ealier (he wasn't fast enough with the camera, he tells me) you'd have seen a kangaroo with frog feet sticking out of his mouth. Everyone's favorite froggie was mistaken for a treat there for a moment. That pic was right after he spit out what he now knew was not food.

I can't wait to get back to England, m'self. It's been way too long.

Yep, I'd like to go back to England too, and Europe. I thought about moving to Europe to live for a while, but there are too many things I need to do here.

ok, i'm going to get lunch right now....later!

I read your background too, if that makes you feel better.

It's always nice to find out about what a person's life has been like, especially after you've done some wrangling with 'em beforehand.:)

Thanks for sharing.

Justin

I'm glad we met online!

I've been to Scotland, Denmark, Germany, Holland, Norway, Hawaii, Guam, Philippenes, Singapore, Hong Kong, Korea, Australia, Kenya, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Diego Garcia and Canada. Also Tiajuana in the daytime!

I liked Austalia the best because we were so long at sea, and the architecture looked so American compared to Kenya or Thailand, it was like being home. That and I loved the acent.
