I'd like some ideas on where to holiday in the UK. I've already been to Skegness, Torquay, Great Yarmouth, Blackpool and Torquay, Id like somewhere lively, a nice beach or harbour and lots of shops and nightlife too:)

Blackpool??? :eek7:

It depends where you are and how far you want to travel, but if it beach and nightlife you want then the best place I can suggest is St Ives or anywhere around that area, Cornwall is such a beautiful place, so if you also needed a quiet day, lands end is just down the road, hope thats helpful. :)

Hackney is nice this time of year.

Dont forget to pack some heat.

Alternatively and assuming you are serious Newquay would be my choice.

Along the Dorset coast is gorgeous with Bournemouth, Weymouth and Poole (nice place) for shops and nightlife.

The downside to the earlier suggestions is that both Devon and Cornwall are small counties with few major roads that get clogged with traffic very quickly.
If you went by train and walked/biked it might be bearable, but taking a car especially from May onwards is a real pain in the butt

funnily enough I was looking at Weymouth and Bournemouth! We though we may try a coach holiday to take the stress out of driving. I hate doing a 6 or 7 hour car journey in the UK, it's tiring and stressful too!
Do you know which resort is the liveliest? we made the mistake of going to Tenby a couple of years ago, although it has a nice beach, the town is tiny with only two main streets which did my boredom threshold no good whatsoever.. Ideally I like somewhere with a beach and promenade, plenty of shops and nightlife and other nice towns close by to visit :)

Bournemouth is the largest but is geared to older people. I'd recommend Poole which is immediately to the West of bournemouth (they kinda blend into each other), the harbour is great with Brownsea Island in the middle. Sandbanks is the "Miami" of the area with lots of multi-million pound homes on.
Towns nearby to visit would include Wareham, Swanage and Corfe Castle (very dramatic ruined castle from the English Civil War) inland is Wimborne Minster and Blandford Forum and a coach ride away is Dorchester the county seat.
This is all the "Wessex" of the Thomas Hardy novels.
Further West along the coast is Lulworth Cove a really beautiful sheltered bay with lots of fossils in the cliffs (you can still pick them up in the beach at the foot of the cliffs) and Abbotsbury which has a swan sanctuary, close to this is Chesil Beach, a narrow strip of pebble beach almost 10 miles long which the tides have actually sorted BY SIZE! Start at one end and the pebbles are pea size as you progress so they get larger until at the other end they are the size of soccer balls...
Oh and Poole is a busy bustling city with several international companies HQ's there which has encouraged a lively night scene and plenty of top name shops.

Hope that helps.

I like the sound of Poole! thanks for the info, Ill take a look:) I was searching for decent web cams of the areas but couldn't find any that showed what the resorts had to offer! I shall certainly check out the places you kindly gave me. :nice:

I never spent time in London but I always wanted to see the Imperial War museum. London is said to have the livliest nightlife of any European city. Picadally Circus was once famous for its prostitutes but has been cleaned up so I have heard.

Outside of London, Salsbury would be amazing. You got Stonehendge and the Gothic Cathedril inside the town.

I think it would be really cool to visit Oxford or Cambridge.

I would also like to go to a Manchester United footbal match. I'm not much of a fan but I think it would be a good time.

The IWM got a make over a while back and has a lot of interactive stuff to appeal to kids (on War???)
London nightlife is strictly for the (very) young clubbers, in the centre, around Soho and Covent Garden it's tourist oriented and too many clubs just want to rip you off with high cover charges and $10 for a Coke.
The best hookers are still found in Shepherd's Market or in the lobbies of good hotels (they are mostly Russian and VERY beautiful).

Outside of London, Salisbury would be amazing. You got Stonehenge and the Gothic Cathedral inside the town.

Agreed, Salisbury is a lovely town, lots of nice architecture and pleasant streets to wander around. Stonehenge can be a bit of a disappointment, it's smaller than you imagine and you can only walk around it from about a hundred feet away, not up close to the stones - quite expensive too.

I think it would be really cool to visit Oxford or Cambridge.

Oxford is rather dull, Cambridge is prettier with the River Cam and the college buildings - bear in mind most colleges are closed to the public so you can't see much except the exteriors.

I would also like to go to a Manchester United footbal match. I'm not much of a fan but I think it would be a good time.

Better get a second mortgage then! Cheapest for non-members are about Stg23 ($46) and that's a lousy position, if you want to see the action be prepared to fork out Stg50 ($100).
