What are your thoughts on the US 2000 presidential election??

Bush tends to make a lot of very strong "off the cuff" remarks... what do you think of this??

Do you think, now that the Cold War is over, that the US is a power to be feared as much as the old Soviet Empire??

Your thoughts in general on the direction of the worlds last remaining superpower??

The elections were good entertainment. The whole recount thing was definitely amusing (for us outsiders).

I agree that the US is a great power this day, but that I also think it's fading. There's too many international things you guys force yourself into, while forgetting about your own country some of the time, and with asian countries starting to make their move, I foresee a shift of power in the (near) future. Not anytime real soon, but I think it's inevitable

well, I think it is fitting for the USA that it's election should end with a court case!

As for superpower status, I think that rivalry will be springing up from two new sources: Europe and Islam. Europe is not currently inclined toward conflict, and Islam is not strong enough.

Whatever happens, no country remains the most powerful forever...

While I live in the United States I found myself disgusted and repulsed by the candidates from both major parties. I cringe at the thought of seeing the same two mediocre lightweights duking it out again in '04. IMO the American Presidency is a flawed concept.

im guessing there will be a shift of power away from the traditional nation-state. something along the lines of NATO will take its place. btw, fat chance china will be the next superpower.
