View Full Version : Honeymoon Help
Evil Elmo 02-11-2007, 07:25 PM Ok guys. I have a question. I need to start planning the honeymoon.
I'm thinking about the following places....
Cancun
Cabo
Hawaii
Punta Cana (Dominican Republic......little creepy I think but 5-star stuff available)
Jamaica
Nassau
ChzWhz the list goes on and on. Any help on making a dicision would be nice here. They all sound great and I need help here.
Haddaway 02-11-2007, 07:29 PM Aruba is a great place for a honeymoon. So is the Grand Hotel Florence in Italy.

Evil Elmo 02-11-2007, 07:32 PM we're already having to book stuff. Seems like everything needs to be dome about 9 months in advance. Her dress will be here in 6 months.
DotCom 02-11-2007, 07:55 PM Hawaii is CROWDED. So if you're looking to get away from it all, it's not the best bet.
But there's lots to do. I loved it, and it's very beautiful.
So...my input is to make a list of what you want from your honeymoon. If you want things to do, if you want to sit on a secluded beach and stare at each other...etc. Then you can start looking better at your options, mebbe?
TimeWellWasted 02-11-2007, 07:56 PM save a butt load of money and just go somewhere for a weekend. somewhere reasonably close to you too. JMO

That's what I expect Rome would be like.
Also, yes. we are indeed wanting to "get away from it all" we both live very stressful lives and we need a break badly.
Feenix566 02-12-2007, 12:25 PM If you go to Hawaii, you're better off going to Maui than Waikiki. Honolulu is just another big American city, and Waikiki is a tourist trap. I've been there for work a couple times. I've heard (although I haven't been there) that Maui is a much better place to take a vacation.
Cancun is alright, but it's more of a spring break destination than a honeymoon one. If you do go, stay at one of the more expensive hotels right on the beach. Staying at a cheaper hotel is more hassle than it's worth, because you have to take a bus to the beach.
My buddies went to Punta Cana and loved it.

I agree with your Honolulu comments. I don't need to go back there. The zoo was cool though.
The wife and I honeymooned in Hawaii. Five days on Maui, five days on Kauai, two days in Honolulu. There were certainly more people on Maui than Kauai, but I didn't find it "crowded" by any means.
I've also been to the Carribean. It does not compare to Hawaii. Not even close.
Evil Elmo 02-12-2007, 12:47 PM Right now I am also thinking about Athens Greece. I know that one will be mad over crowded. 5 million people in a tiny place like that. would be a very cool place though. I am open to staying on an island near my destination as well.

Yeah, Kauai is awesome. Really beautiful. Perfect honeymoon spot.
twinkles 02-13-2007, 05:45 AM The Maldive Islands
Fidji
Guadalupe
some place exotic, IMO. forget Europe for your wedding. Europe is a good idea if you want to visit. Unless ... you know people who can give you good advice - about booking a small castle outside Paris or near Florence type of advice.

Evil Elmo 02-13-2007, 12:29 PM Isn't Croatia kindof an unstable place? What if I get gang raped by soldiers? I'm kinda pretty you know.
medlar 02-13-2007, 12:55 PM I guess a honeymoon in Bangkok is out of the equation.
I would want to go to Rome, Athens, Cypress, Egypt.and then Nepal. On my honeymoon that is. She would just like to want to travel and shag for a year or so on the road so to speak.
if that ever happens.
optimus 02-13-2007, 01:59 PM I hear TJ has some good rates right now.
tdd23 02-13-2007, 02:51 PM Maui is amazing. I truly loved it. I recommend watching the sunrise atop the Volcano... one of the most beautiful sights ever. But yes, it is crowded in the sense that the roads are super busy, but the beaches are wonderful (we stayed in Kihei). Costa Rica would be nice too. If you go to Mexico, and want some peace and quiet, I recommend Nuevo Vallarta (north of Puerto Vallarta). Nice and secluded.
Evil Elmo 02-13-2007, 02:54 PM I hear TJ has some good rates right now.yeah, I ain't doing that.
Jolly Johnny 02-13-2007, 02:59 PM Croatia is fine, as long as you aren't Serbian you'll find no problem whatsoever, and the Adriatic costs are simply amazing...
My suggestion, Sicily... But be sure to learn a bit of Italian, there aren't that many English speakers there. Honestly, I think that's half the beauty, kinda makes it more natural, and less tourism oriented.
But it depends on what you are searching for. I get it you are trying to get something calm and relaxed... So yes, Sicily would be my pick.

How would anyone know you were a Serbian in Croatia? Croats and Serbs differ by a fraction when it comes to the dialect, they speak the same language, have the same names and last names.:) I was in Croatia right after the war in '97 (I am Serbian), and staid in a Croatian household. I remember talking about politics and the war with the head of the household. Although he blatantly insulted Serbs - while knowing I'm Serbian (and revealed to me how the American troops joined the Croatians in the great effort to export all the Serbs out of Croatia) I actually found his insults refreshingly humorous and entertaining. The poor guy was an uneducated, indictrinated, brainwashed peasant. I found myself thinking how utterly unecessary their hatered was (for the arguments were empty, unsupported and senseless). "The Serbs are "faithless" (referring to their communism - atheism), they are not united, thus they will lose..." Funny how the Americans used to be allies with Serbs during WW2, and now they've switched sides, helping the fashist regimes and sponsoring the expansion of the Muslim states in the Balkans.
And Majumbuu, the war was over in Spring 1996. Thass 10 years dude. Croatia couldn't be more peaceful. There are no foreign soldiers in Croatia any more. It's a tourist heaven. Prices are unlikely to be matched by any such beautiful place on earth. You find private accomodation on the coast, and it's so cheap it's unbelievable. Croatians are normal people. Except when it comes to religion, they are religious zealots. The good news is - you prolly feel closer to the Roman Catholic nations than any other. All Western Europe is like that, after all. Except the Brits, God save the Queen.:D
I love Cabo, you would definitely have a blast there. :) Too bad my uncle sold their gorgeous house he owned there, you could've rented it for a few nights. But you could stay at Hotel Pamillia, which is near where my aunt&uncle's house was.

I know all that, I'm well aware of the differences and similarities. :)

What happened to you is what I said, they are not too fond of Serbians, not that most of them are actually going to harm you... Ustase no longer exists, so, there isn't much to fear.
But since you are Serbian, why didn't you suggest Montenegro, it is as pretty as Croatia, if not more... The East Adriatic Coast is really something.

I dunno. war leaves scars.....especially the genocide kind.

Canadiense 02-19-2007, 09:42 AM But since you are Serbian, why didn't you suggest Montenegro, it is as pretty as Croatia, if not more... The East Adriatic Coast is really something.
I am not biased, I had always went to the Croatian part of the adriatic coast, and I found it very mysterious and quite romantic, as it is very old, and built from stone. And I love their dialect, the "IKAVSKI"... I always totally switch from a standard Serbo-Croatian dialect to the Croatian dialect (when I visit), I just find it much more "elegant". It is no wonder as this folk had been influenced by the Italians, and the latin languages, music, and temperament.
Montenegro is nice, I just dislike Monenegrin people. They are Serbs who decided to separate from Serbia - motivated by greed and selfish tendencies. Their reputation as lazy and corrupted folk preceeds them. They are the most boastful (for nothing), ego-centric, irritating people you'll ever meet. They are always depicted in yugoslavian jokes as the lazy braggot. If ever you meet a Montenegrin, you will surely hear about the GREATNESS of the Montenegrin Nation, all 300,000 of them.:nonono:
Evil Elmo 02-19-2007, 10:17 AM well, we know where you stand. :|
My vote goes to Jamaica or Aruba.
Wicked Hotels on Jamaica's North Coast which are all super all-inclusive:
Half Moon 5-star
Ritz Carlton 5-star
Sandals 5-star
Trident Hotel and the coming soon Rio Hotels (5 star)
Trust me ive been to Half Moon and its really nice but heard that Ritz Carlton is even better. Ive been to Jamaica Grande as well also nice. Been to Holiday Inn and that place sucks.
Here are some pics of the Trident Hotel in Jamaica, I will try and find my pics from Half Moon.
Never been to Aruba but my friend and his girlfriend went there and they said it was all the rave, I am going to ask him when I see him on Monday about the really nice hotels.
Trident Hotel in Jamaica is near to tourist attractions such as blue lagoon and temptation island and is also near to the original Tiffany of Tiffany's jewellry store 1900 mansion.
Jamaica Grande is near to Dunn's River and other attractions such as rafting etc and other stuff I cant remember.
Ritz Carlton is basically a 6-star hotel and I think the Jamaican one has gotten the hotel of the year award several times. Whole lot of celebrities go there. Sandals has gotten the all inclusive worldwide award for six straight years. It didnt entice me so I didnt go ive heard people say it was great though.

Romanic people rock! :p

In all honesty, I only know two... One of them is one of the greatest guys I've ever met... Never heard a word of him bragging about Montenegro, except in jokes... He is pretty proud of being a serbian, so is the other, eventhough they are montenegrins, if you get my drift... Cool guys.
