i can't believe i'm really going to do this. :eek3: it is a wonderful cause, and it'll do wonders for me as well i'm sure. i've been running a little bit since she left, so i'm not starting completely from scratch. today i ran 2 miles, then alternated running and walking another 2 miles. the thought of running 10k... i think adjusting my diet will probably be the hardest part. anyway...i'm excited. besides, since the race is in austin, after the race i'll have to hang out with fat mike, and "replinish my carbs", one beer at a time. :)

Good for you - I haven't done much in the way of running since I left the military almost two years ago.

Remember the days when a 10k was a SHORT run, instead of a  run?

:D

just run as much as you can. swim a lot.

good luck that sounds tough!

10k is only like 6 miles so its doable.... the biking part is kinda where you can rest a little bit and the swim sounds tough

:nice: Rock on, J! I agree that the swim sounds the roughest, not just because I can't swim... but because it is so freaking strenuous. Does UH have a lap pool you are going to train in?

wow, keeping up with this is kinda a bitch. i joined a gym, so i've been swimming the last few days. i stepped in a hole and rolled my ankle a few days ago, so no running recently. i'll probably try to run again on tuesday, work tomorrow. swam this morning, may swim again this evening. i swim sloooow.

so, i ran 6 miles in less than an hour yesterday. :) it was on a treadmill, but i'm still pretty stoked. now if i could just figure out how to swim a little (okay, alot) faster. I really want to finish this thing in 3 and a half hours. i still have a long way to go.

diet and rest are just as important. take care of your noodle too. mental burnout can be hard to combat. think fun man.

I'm glad to hear that you've accomplished so much, and that you still have a such thirst for it. :)

I'm glad to hear that you've accomplished so much, and that you still have a such thirst for it. :)

wow, this is becoming an expensive endeavor. my bike was old, but i thought it would do for a little while longer. well, i've had more and more trouble with it as i've put more miles in. anyway, so i broke down today and splurged. i spent way too much money on a carbon fiber tri-specific bike. it is freakin awesome though. anyway, just wanted to share.

man what a let down. all that preparation to go sit in a hotel and watch it rain. i'm not really sure why, but this has put me into a major funk. kinda just seems to be the story of my life...always almost doing something. graduated high school, almost went to the university of chicago. joined the army, almost saw action, almost went to selection. anyway...

i'm pretty much hooked on tris now (its the hot chics in bike shorts :)), so i will be doing more, but this was my first one. which i think is why it bummed me out so much. not to mention having to answer to everyone who donated money for the cause...but i will do more. i'm registered for a sprint tri in june, and i think i'm going to do an olympic in austin in september, and i hope to find at least one in between.
