I guess he sees a difference between 'child' and 'fetus'.
Not saying the guy is a saint: I don't know the first thing about him...

Would you prefer somebody who really cares about unborn children but doesn't do anything for the ones that are living?
I don't see where this position is hypocritical.

i think you probably do see where it's hypocritical, but it's that we don't agree on the issue. for the record, i'd like to see both.

Some of the worst things are done in the name of the children. "For the Children" was to Clinton as "Freedumb and Dumbocracy" are to Bush.

Well, as my family in Arkansas used to say to me when I was a kid,
Wish in one hand, shit in the other. See which one fills up first.

Sounds like a good piece of legislation.

A foetus is hardly a child.

Yes, a fetus IS a baby.

http://www.pregnancy-calendars.net/images/9weeks.JPG

By the time a preborn is called a fetus, all body systems are present, though still developing/growing, the heart has already been beating for weeks now, brain waves can be detected, by the 9th week the baby squints, swallows, can make a fist, I could go on from there, because the growth is very rapid.

Read what I posted on the abortion thread, here (http://www.discussanything.com/forums/showpost.php?p=1466571&postcount=93). Even "Jane Roe" herself (the plaintiff in Roe v Wade) now realizes it's a BABY.

No, 'pro-kid' does not mean tearing apart a baby to bits, and sucking it through a hose. The two don't go together.

And there is such a thing called adoption, where the baby can have an opportunity at a good life.

Lily, you know that my abandonment of the concept of 'human' rights led to me abandoning my acceptance of abortion. However, the fact remains that in the minds of many, a foetus is not yet a child. I don't know whether it is, and, to be honest, I don't especially care. It's wrong either way.

I also really don't care all that much about Roe v Wade. You'd almost think, the way some people carry on about it here, that one case changed the approach to abortion law everywhere. Actually, come to think of it, the way some political issues are discussed, you'd think that only the USA, Iraq, Iran and maybe France even exist.

The point is, however, that if you accept that his apparent beliefs are genuinely held and if you cannot objectively and empirically prove that he is wrong and should know he's wrong...he's not a hypocrite. A hypocrite is someone who says one thing and knowingly or recklessly does the opposite.
