EMTrue 01-25-2007, 02:55 AM What are your thoughts on this?
Until somewhat recently, the media has portrayed thing, blonde women as sexual objects...that was what was fed to us in every facet...women in general as the object of sex...
Although this has been changing over the last decade or so (IMO) do you think that growing up during that time has had some affect on you....
I think for me it did, I think I had the Barbie syndrome...trying to catch the unattainable figure she had- set up to fail as it is impossible...also living through the times of the 'waif models' the super thin women...unattainably thin for most anyone- healthily.
Also, just sexually speaking...being fed images of women as sex symbols and not men...seems to trigger the hormones...I think if there were men being portrayed the same way-I'd be different...react different...I think the reason I get horny looking at women is because since childhood they were the visuals given for sexuality...
Same goes for the type of women...until recent times, if you werent white and have blonde hair...you werent sexy...
And again, just the fact of being thin...you arent sexy or pretty unless you are of like the models, actresses and such you get bombarded with....
Thoughts?
I've always thought that too thin isn't attractive, in either men or women. (probably because I struggled with being underweight for much of my life and I always wanted to gain weight)
So even though the media/society tried to promote thinness, it didn't affect me, I've always thought that people look better with some meat on their bones. As far as the blonde/blue eyed images we're always fed.... well, I guess when I was a little girl I thought Barbie was pretty. But if there was any push by society to promote blonde as sexy, that must not have worked on me either, because most of the guys I was attracted to growing up had dark hair. :D  And when it comes to women, I think brunettes are the sexiest, but maybe i'm biased. ;)
I think sexy can come in all different packages but it's actually a person's mind/humor/confidence/charm that makes them sexy. Of course it doesn't hurt to be physically attractive, but if that gorgeous person is dumb or boring, that aint sexy. :)

I think the reaon you get horny looking at women is because you are bi. Conditioning cannot change or influence someone's sexual orientation.

Agreed.
I am not permanently affected by this...just thinking back on my youth and such...I do think that the woman as sex symbol stuck though...

...could be.
velocitygirl 01-25-2007, 05:16 AM I think too many woman get ideas about what is attractive based on popular culture. And usually they are misled. Most men do not find skinny woman attractive. They like a more womanly shape, larger breasts, wider hips. All of which are traits of a child bearer. I think woman with more voluptuous figures are more attractive as well. I am like Lily, I have been uber thin all my life. The most I have ever weighed was 130 lbs, and even that took effort. I never suffered from Barbie syndrome either.

Skinnies rule the world.:)
I think women are more influential in the world today than the mainstream thinks they are.
I married a skinny blonde 17 years ago. She's still a skinny but has crows feet. I don't talk about it in front of her. I think she makes fun of my receding hair line with her friends at work.
Personally I think the most powerful women are two things: skinny and conservatively dressed.
The thing about well dressed women is that they bring out mystery. A lady in a bikini shows all. Ain't no thing, know what I mean?
A woman well dressed - long dress, long sleeves, hair done up, stockings and shoes - stirs the imagination. It does something that focuses a man to her face and eyes. A man notices more of her person. The body can come later.
The smile. A window to her soul. That is real power.

I know exactly what you mean. I'm the same way.
I have dark hair and eyes, but growing up I was the thin one,(still am, 95 pounds at 5' 1-2") and a ton of girls hated me for it. (It's in my genes, you should see my mother, and how much I eat) A lot of my friends ceased to be in my middle school years just because they were afraid I'd steal their boyfriend or they were jealous, dumb stuff like that. I think women are more attractive with full curves on em, I've always wanted Serena William's-like thighs. :D
I think it does have more of an impact on a lot of women,(anorexia, bulmeia [sp?] depression, low self esteem, etc.) but I don't think it really affects guys. No matter what, they'll always have their preferances, and from my experience, mature ones have developed a their own tastes, not always reflecting the media. (then again, I tend to stay away from the ones who do, so..) they also recognize the fantasy type element to it.
I don't think the media is a good influence, to sum it up, I guess. It creates more bad than good.
Bear Stories 01-25-2007, 03:49 PM ....

Absolutely agree; I mean, I'm not classically beautiful. I have pleasant features and I'm well groomed, but not by any stretch of the imagination would anyone classify me as beautiful. (I can get away with "pretty", maybe on a good day.)
I do have some physical attributes that work to my advantage; I have great legs and a nice ass, but what I really have is smarts, humor and charm. And I am 100% confident that I am a fabulous person. ;)
That's what sexy is all about.
Monster 01-25-2007, 03:53 PM I don't think blondes are attractive, and I like women with a natural curve to them. I actually attribute that partially to the oversaturation of society with that thin blonde body type. Especially here in L.A., there's just too damn many of them.

:nice: Jojo, I think a great smile is powerful as hell. Mine is!
jwreck 01-25-2007, 04:05 PM what i want to know is why women compete with each other to achieve what they think is attractive to men, instead of actually listening to what men say is actually attractive, eg slather on the make-up. or better yet, just do what they think looks good, and to hell with what others think. :hmm:
Haddaway 01-25-2007, 04:16 PM I don't agree with the blonde haired girls are hot! I don't have a general attraction toward blondes. I mean they can be good looking but they can be not as good looking. I know a lot of skinny women who are not very attractive. I usually like some meat on the bones and I love brown or black hair on women and men usually look very attractive with dark brown and black hair also. Just my opinion..
Monster 01-25-2007, 04:33 PM I remember hearing about a study in my psych class that women's perceptions of what men find attractive and what men find attractive generally don't match up.
Women think that the thin-as-a-rail look is what men want, and men statistically want a woman with a little more curve.

I always thought women did these things to out-do each other, not to impress men. Most men seem happy with the-girl-next door.

Lol, my brain is in my other head today...
It's the same way as it is for men, they have a whole slew of ideas how to impress a woman, but haven't a clue what the woman really wants. I guess we just pull stuff out of our ass & try & impress the hell out of people with it.
jwreck 01-25-2007, 05:37 PM I guess we just pull stuff out of our ass & try & impress the hell out of people with it.i believe you are correct.
Monster 01-25-2007, 05:46 PM I don't know what you're talking about. I know what every woman wants!

Bear Stories 01-25-2007, 06:14 PM Oh honey, there's more to it than "that", (don't get me wrong, we all still really want "that"), but we want other stuff too. :D
Monster 01-25-2007, 06:28 PM Yes, I know. It was more of a sarcastic "Mr. Macho," gods-gift-to-women mentality response.
:)

"that" being money of course. ;)
optimus 01-25-2007, 07:07 PM Women don't even know what women want.
I think the reaon you get horny looking at women is because you are bi. Conditioning cannot change or influence someone's sexual orientation.
no, no.
I think she's on to something actually. I don't think I know a single female who doesn't get turned on looking at a sexy chick.
interesting. :)
optimus 01-25-2007, 07:16 PM no, no.

I do.
Ema, you're bi too. Girls, if you are getting sexually aroused by other women as well as men, you are bi. But the majority of women are bi. I remember a study that found that most men are going to be strongly polarized either straight or gay, and very few bisexual men. Women though weren't so polarized, the majority of them ended up in the middle (bi) and fewer were strictly lesbian or strictly straight.
So on a graph the women charted would look more like the classic bell curve, and men would look almost like an inverse bell curve.
Monster 01-25-2007, 07:20 PM Every woman is bi to Sean. :p
optimus 01-25-2007, 07:22 PM Every woman is bi to Sean. :p
At one point I was seriously convinced they were, but I've eased up on that. I now think about 90% are. :)

I think that too. It seems it's true.
What are your thoughts on this?
Women's magazines (including mags that focus on celebrities) are probably one of the worst things women can buy. If supermarkets stopped stocking them, I'm pretty sure the magazine racks would easily be cut in half and women's self-esteem would improve.
Women really don't have to do a whole lot lookswise to attract us men. Overall, we're pretty easy to please. :)
Bear Stories 01-25-2007, 07:36 PM "that" being money of course. ;)
Yeah, no. :D
Haddaway 01-25-2007, 07:40 PM The only thing women want are men to be their slaves, to men listen to there output then give a genius response, to never get mad and always agree when they get mad, to clean the house every once in a while(every day), ...... 3 years later , to never look at other women, and most importantly to have no choices of their own; the women have to choose for them. Not so bad right?

Women writing to other women about what they think they know about men has only rarely worked out well for the women. Or the men, for that matter.

Agreed.
Bear Stories 01-25-2007, 08:01 PM Bullshit. We all know what men want; clean socks, a hot meal, control of the remote and a blow job.
If you will do those things for a man, he'll hand over the credit card and you can go buy shoes. ;)

very close. you got the order wrong though. i'll wash my own socks and eat ramen noodles if i'm content with the other. oh, and i don't really care about the remote. ;)

LOL...sounds like you need to get out of that relationship. But there's an uncomfortable nugget of truth in that description...
